I received this Gematria in Hebrew.
Siren (Azaka) is 183 so is faith and security (Emunah Bitachon) together.
A Miracle can be a
very natural occurrence that happens ‘just in the nick of time’. Such a thing
happened as Iranians raised missiles to shoot at Yisrael and our drones or
planes caught them in the middle of launch sequence count down. It is a matter
of minutes or seconds whether a miracle will occur or not.
Parsha Tetzaveh Part 2
We continue with mostly
old commentary and a few new ones.
13 And thou shalt make settings of gold; 14 and two chains of pure
gold; of plaited thread shalt thou make them, of wreathen work; and thou shalt
put the wreathen chains on the settings.
The plaited gold chains
hung from the Cohain Gadol’s neck like a wreath.
15 And thou shalt make a breastplate of judgment, the work of the
skilful workman; like the work of the ephod thou shalt make it: of gold, of
blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, shalt thou make it. 16
Four-square it shall be and double: a span shall be the length thereof, and a
span the breadth thereof. 17 And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, four
rows of stones: a row of carnelian, topaz, and smaragd shall be the first row;
18 and the second row a carbuncle, a sapphire, and an emerald; 19 and the third
row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, and an
onyx, and a jasper; they shall be inclosed in gold in their settings. 21 And
the stones shall be according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve,
according to their names; like the engravings of a signet, every one according
to his name, they shall be for the twelve tribes. 22 And thou shalt make upon
the breastplate plaited chains of wreathen work of pure gold. 23 And thou shalt
make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shalt put the two rings on the
two ends of the breastplate. 24 And thou shalt put the two wreathen chains of
gold on the two rings at the ends of the breastplate. 25 And the other two ends
of the two wreathen chains thou shalt put on the two settings, and put them on
the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, in the forepart thereof. 26 And thou shalt
make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the
breastplate, upon the edge thereof, which is toward the side of the ephod
inward. 27 And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and shalt put them on the two
shoulder-pieces of the ephod underneath, in the forepart thereof, close by the
coupling thereof, above the skilfully woven band of the ephod. 28 And they
shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the ephod
with a thread of blue, that it may be upon the skilfully woven band of the
ephod, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod. 29 And Aaron
shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment
upon his heart, when he goes in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the
LORD continually. 30 And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim
and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before
the LORD; and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his
heart before the LORD continually.
Each stone had a
resonance frequency and when put in order and the people saw it, it send out
waves of resonance that had a curing affect on the ill and the barren people.
31 And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue. 32 And it
shall have a hole for the head in the midst thereof; it shall have a binding of
woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of a coat of mail
that it be not rent. 33 And upon the skirts of it thou shalt make pomegranates
of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the skirts thereof; and
bells of gold between them round about: 34 a golden bell and a pomegranate, a
golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the skirts of the robe round about. 35 And
it shall be upon Aaron to minister; and the sound thereof shall be heard when
he goes in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he
die not.
The bells would signal
his entrance into the holy of holies on Yom Kippur. Again a resonance and frequency
for the Cohain. The mystical power of all the stones, gold, bells, etc. is
beyond my knowledge but since we are lacking both a Mikdash and Cohain Gadol, I
cannot even get a distant taste of this.
36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and engrave upon it,
like the engravings of a signet: HOLY TO THE LORD. 37 And thou shalt put it on
a thread of blue, and it shall be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the
mitre it shall be. 38 And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall
bear the iniquity committed in the holy things, which the children of Israel
shall hallow, even in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his
forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD. 39 And thou shalt weave
the tunic in chequer work of fine linen, and thou shalt make a mitre of fine
linen, and thou shalt make a girdle, the work of the weaver in colors. 40 And
for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make tunics, and thou shalt make for them girdles,
and head-tires shalt thou make for them, for splendor and for beauty. 41 And
thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and upon his sons with him; and
shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may
minister unto Me in the priest’s office. 42 And thou shalt make them linen
breeches to cover the flesh of their nakedness; from the loins even unto the
thighs they shall reach. 43 And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons,
when they go in unto the tent of meeting, or when they come near unto the altar
to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die; it shall be
a statute forever unto him and unto his seed after him.
The pants cover up his
secret parts and thus will not be an affront to the Mizbayach.
29:1 And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow
them, to minister unto Me in the priest’s office: take one young bullock and
two rams without blemish, 2 and unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened mingled
with oil, and wafers unleavened spread with oil; of fine wheaten flour shalt
thou make them. 3 And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in
the basket, with the bullock and the two rams. 4 And Aaron and his sons thou
shalt bring unto the door of the tent of meeting, and shalt wash them with
water. 5 And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the tunic, and
the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with
the skilfully woven band of the ephod. 6 And thou shalt set the mitre upon his
head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre. 7 Then shalt thou take the
anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him. 8 And thou shalt
bring his sons, and put tunics upon them. 9 And thou shalt gird them with
girdles, Aaron and his sons, and bind head-tires on them; and they shall have
the priesthood by a perpetual statute; and thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his
sons. 10 And thou shalt bring the bullock before the tent of meeting; and Aaron
and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock. 11 And thou
shalt kill the bullock before the LORD, at the door of the tent of meeting. 12
And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of
the altar with thy finger; and thou shalt pour out all the remaining blood at
the base of the altar. 13 And thou shalt take all the fat that covers the
inwards, and the lobe above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is
upon them, and make them smoke upon the altar. 14 But the flesh of the bullock,
and its skin, and its dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp; it is a
sin-offering. 15 Thou shalt also take the one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall
lay their hands upon the head of the ram. 16 And thou shalt slay the ram, and
thou shalt take its blood, and dash it roundabout against the altar. 17 And
thou shalt cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its inwards, and its legs, and
put them with its pieces, and with its head. 18 And thou shalt make the whole
ram smoke upon the altar; it is a burnt-offering unto the LORD; it is a sweet
savor, an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 19 And thou shalt take the other
ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the ram. 20
Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of its blood, and put it upon the tip of
the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon
the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and
dash the blood against the altar round about. 21 And thou shalt take of the
blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon
Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his
sons with him; and he and his garments shall be hallowed, and his sons and his
sons’ garments with him. 22 Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat, and the
fat tail, and the fat that covers the inwards, and the lobe of the liver, and
the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right thigh; for it is
a ram of consecration; 23 and one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread,
and one wafer, out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before the LORD.
24 And thou shalt put the whole upon the hands of Aaron, and upon the hands of
his sons; and shalt wave them for a wave-offering before the LORD. 25 And thou
shalt take them from their hands, and make them smoke on the altar upon the
burnt-offering, for a sweet savor before the LORD; it is an offering made by
fire unto the LORD. 26 And thou shalt take the breast of Aaron’s ram of
consecration, and wave it for a wave-offering before the LORD; and it shall be
thy portion. 27 And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave-offering, and
the thigh of the heave-offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the
ram of consecration, even of that which is Aaron’s, and of that which is his
sons’. 28 And it shall be for Aaron and his sons as a due for ever from the
children of Israel; for it is a heave-offering; and it shall be a
heave-offering from the children of Israel of their sacrifices of
peace-offerings, even their heave-offering unto the LORD. 29 And the holy
garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and
to be consecrated in them. 30 Seven days shall the son that is priest in his stead
put them on, even he who cometh into the tent of meeting to minister in the
holy place. 31 And thou shalt take the ram of consecration, and seethe its
flesh in a holy place. 32 And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the
ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the door of the tent of meeting.
33 And they shall eat those things wherewith atonement was made, to consecrate
and to sanctify them; but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are
holy. 34 And if aught of the flesh of the consecration, or of the bread, remain
unto the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be
eaten, because it is holy. 35 And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron, and to his
sons, according to all that I have commanded thee; seven days shalt thou
consecrate them. 36 And every day shalt thou offer the bullock of sin-offering,
beside the other offerings of atonement; and thou shalt do the purification
upon the altar when thou makes atonement for it; and thou shalt anoint it, to
sanctify it. 37 Seven days thou shalt make atonement for the altar, and
sanctify it; thus shall the altar be most holy; whatsoever touches the altar
shall be holy.
Unlike the modern word
Milluim (for reserve call-up service), this Milluim was for the first 7 days to
consecrate the Cohanic service.
38 Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar: two
lambs of the first year day by day continually. 39 The one lamb thou shalt
offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at dusk. 40 And with
the one lamb a tenth part of an ephah of fine flour mingled with the fourth
part of a hin of beaten oil; and the fourth part of a hin of wine for a
drink-offering. 41 And the other lamb thou shalt offer at dusk, and shalt do
thereto according to the meal-offering of the morning, and according to the
drink-offering thereof, for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto the
LORD. 42 It shall be a continual burnt-offering throughout your generations at
the door of the tent of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you, to
speak there unto thee. 43 And there I will meet with the children of Israel;
and [the Tent] shall be sanctified by My glory. 44 And I will sanctify the tent
of meeting, and the altar; Aaron also and his sons will I sanctify, to minister
to Me in the priest’s office. 45 And I will dwell among the children of Israel,
and will be their God. 46 And they shall know that I am the LORD their God,
that brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them.
I am the LORD their God.
The Korban Tamid (Daily
Sacrifice) morning and evening was meant for HASHEM to dwell among us.
30:1 And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon; of
acacia-wood shalt thou make it. 2 A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a
cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be; and two cubits shall be the
height thereof; the horns thereof shall be of one piece with it. 3 And thou
shalt overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round
about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round
about. 4 And two golden rings shalt thou make for it under the crown thereof,
upon the two ribs thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make them; and
they shall be for places for staves wherewith to bear it. 5 And thou shalt make
the staves of acacia-wood, and overlay them with gold. 6 And thou shalt put it
before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony, before the ark-cover that
is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee. 7 And Aaron shall burn
thereon incense of sweet spices; every morning, when he dresses the lamps, he
shall burn it. 8 And when Aaron lights the lamps at dusk, he shall burn it, a
perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations. 9 Ye shall offer
no strange incense thereon, nor burnt-offering, nor meal-offering; and ye shall
pour no drink-offering thereon. 10 And Aaron shall make atonement upon the
horns of it once in the year; with the blood of the sin-offering of atonement
once in the year shall he make atonement for it throughout your generations; it
is most holy unto the LORD.’
While the consecration
of Milluim was a one time service, atoning from sin would be a process for all
generations.
27:20 And thou
shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure olive oil
beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually.
21 In the tent
of meeting, without the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons
shall set it in order, to burn from evening to morning before the LORD; it
shall be a statute forever throughout their generations on the behalf of the
children of Israel.
We
are all Tumay now and we have no Beis HaMikdash or Menorah to light with non –
Tumay Olive Oil. We have physically pure extra virgin olive oil but not
ritually pure oil.
28:1 And bring
thou near unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the
children of Israel, that they may minister unto Me in the priest’s office, even
Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Itamar, Aaron’s sons. 2 And thou shalt make
holy garments for Aaron thy brother, for splendor and for beauty.
For
the splendor of the glory of the garments will radiate the holiness. Here we
have a nation dressed in drab working garments and covering garments. One does
not send his flocks out to pasture or milk his cows dress in tuxedos but rather
drab working clothes. So in contrast every morning at Shacharis and every
evening at Mincha the nation in the wilderness of Sinai would see the Cohanim
is these splendid garments and their glory would remind the people of G-D’s
eternal glory.
3 And thou
shalt speak unto all that are wise-hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit
of wisdom, that they make Aaron’s garments to sanctify him, that he may
minister unto Me in the priest’s office.
Who
is wise? – one who sees the birth or end result. These women and male tailors
had Ruach HaKodesh within themselves to see the design. Just like Betzalel with
the making of the engraven sections and the rest of the Mishkan (including the
joining of the tabernacle boards and the way they were to be raised to their
final height and anchored in place). If one knows a little about metal and wood
work and the engineering of raising and lowering these giant planks of the
Mishkan one needs great skills and coordination. The weaving of the garments
which is beyond the knowledge and skills of most males not to mention Rabbis
needed wisdom. How many of us have ever followed the conversion of flax unto
linen or the shearing of the sheep into making wool just ready for the loom.
Then comes the other skills designs and measurements. All we do is go into some
store and buy a shirt and a pair of pants and shoes for a small amount of cash
ignoring the raising of the flax or animal for the wool or leather for the
shoe.
4 And these are
the garments which they shall make: a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe,
and a tunic of checker work, a mitre, and a girdle; and they shall make holy
garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto Me in
the priest’s office.
Ephod
was a vest/apron for the Cohain over his checkered tunic. Each Cohain was to
have a pair of pants to separate his nudeness from the altar. When the
Americans captured Iraq the Israeli Television did not censor an Arab lifting
up his robe and yelling this is what I have for you Saddam and exposing himself
as it was the custom not to wear anything under the robe. Having pants was
modesty and the girdle or belt to separate the heart from the nudeness. Halacha:
When one prayers, he needs to have a belt or an elastic band separating his
lower body part from the upper body part. Also while on the subject the minimum
of the minimum dress for praying (let us say one fell asleep at the beach) is a
bathing suit, tee shirt and sandals with some head covering. However, one
should dress as one would meet a king or president. Just as one does not appear
before the president in a bathing suit or scruffy work clothes so one should
appear in descent dress or minimum everyday dress before appearing before the
L-RD. The minimum is called B’De’evad (or because it would be lost otherwise –
extenuating circumstances) and the second is called Le Chathilla or from the
start.
5 And they
shall take the gold, and the blue, and the purple, and the scarlet, and the
fine linen.
As
I wrote above each color represented a different atonement and a different
value among the highest heavenly spheres and should be understood by all this
way.
6 And they
shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and purple, scarlet, and fine twined
linen, the work of the skillful workman.
We
are not dealing with golden colored thread but pure gold threat mixed with the
rare dyes of blue, purple and scarlet. Royalty did not choose purple as the
color for regents and kings but rather it was expensive and people under a
certain level could not afford it or a thrifty and wise middle class person would
not buy it. (Why buy a BMW or Mercedes Car when a Honda or Chevy will do the
same job).
7 It shall have
two shoulder-pieces joined to the two ends thereof, that it may be joined
together. 8 And the skillfully woven band, which is upon it, wherewith, to gird
it on, shall be like the work thereof and of the same piece: of gold, of blue,
and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. 9 And thou shalt take two onyx
stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel: 10 six of their
names on the one stone, and the names of the six that remain on the other
stone, according to their birth. 11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like
the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones, according to the
names of the children of Israel; thou shalt make them to be enclosed in
settings of gold. 12 And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulder-pieces
of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the children of Israel; and Aaron
shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.
13 And thou shalt make settings of gold; 14 and two chains of pure gold; of
plaited thread shalt thou make them, of wreathen work; and thou shalt put the
wreathen chains on the settings. 15 And thou shalt make a breastplate of
judgment, the work of the skillful workman; like the work of the ephod thou
shalt make it: of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined
linen, shalt thou make it.
Besides
the beautiful garments of the average Cohain, the Cohain Gadol was to have
extra garments to help in the atonement and judgement of Am Yisrael. Again
combining the quality of the Sefiros such as we do with Gevurah within Chesed
(Severity within Mercy) during the counting of the Omer but done automatically
by the power of the garments and the right combination of stones in the Chosen
Mishpat.
16 Four-square
it shall be and double: a span shall be the length thereof, and a span the
breadth thereof. 17 And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, four rows of
stones: a row of carnelian, topaz, and smaragd shall be the first row; 18 and
the second row a carbuncle, a sapphire, and an emerald; 19 and the third row a
jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 20 and the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx,
and a jasper; they shall be enclosed in gold in their settings. 21 And the
stones shall be according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve,
according to their names; like the engravings of a signet, every one according
to his name, they shall be for the twelve tribes.
The
Twelve stones on the breast plate against the twelve tribes and heavenly hosts
(Zodiac is implied here) and the names on the two Onyx stones and how they were
written is important to the Sefiros (one could not mix the right Onyx and names
of tribes with the left for it would sabotage the spiritual power involved).
22 And thou
shalt make upon the breastplate plaited chains of wreathen work of pure gold.
23 And thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shalt put
the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate. 24 And thou shalt put the two
wreathen chains of gold on the two rings at the ends of the breastplate. 25 And
the other two ends of the two wreathen chains thou shalt put on the two
settings, and put them on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, in the forepart thereof.
26 And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two
ends of the breastplate, upon the edge thereof, which is toward the side of the
ephod inward. 27 And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and shalt put them on
the two shoulder-pieces of the ephod underneath, in the forepart thereof, close
by the coupling thereof, above the skillfully woven band of the ephod. 28 And
they shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the
ephod with a thread of blue, that it may be upon the skillfully woven band of
the ephod, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod.
In the Temple, שש and בד [‘Shesh’ and ‘Bad’]
were eternal symbols of our duty to trust in G-d, Who created the universe and
directs it, Who ‘brings low and raises
up’ (I Sam. 2:7). שש and בד evoke the Shesh [שש also meaning six] from the six days of creation, through which G-d, alone [לבד] and set apart [בדד], created the world.
The purpose of Creation was the Exodus from Egypt. That is, G-d created the world so mankind would know His
greatness and might, praise and extol Him, and seek to emulate Him in thought
and conduct. The Exodus concretely showed the world G-d’s
greatness and might, when He withdrew His nation from servitude to a nation
from which until then not one slave had managed to escape, and established Israel as the Chosen People who would make known G-d’s
might to the world.
There is great significance to G-d’s having called the ark poles
[and, accordingly, the staves of the altar in our Parsha] a בד, [‘Bad’] and not a מוט,
[‘Mot’, also meaning stave or pole], because while ‘Mot’ can
mean something that carries, it also connotes
falling and collapse, as in, ‘The earth trembles and totters [‘mot hit’motet’]’ (Isaiah
24:19); and, ‘All the foundations of
the earth totter [‘yimotu’]’ (Ps. 82:5). Thus, ‘Mot’ can mean
both ascent and lifting up, as well as falling down. This is the connection
between ‘Mot’ and ‘Matah’ [מטה] — meaning ‘down’. Moreover, the person without strength collapses in bed [‘mitah’,מיטה]. ‘Mavet’ [מות]
— ‘death’ — is also tied to ‘Mot’, for death is permanent collapse.
Thus, every rod fashioned by man
to strengthen and support, carry and lift, can ultimately break and collapse.
Yet, the rod G-d commanded to be made to carry the ark cannot collapse and
break, because it symbolizes the power of G-d, Creator of the Universe, of Whom it says, ‘G-d established the
earth upon its foundations that it should never ever collapse’ (Ps. 104:5); and, ‘The world is
established. It cannot collapse’ (Ps. 93:1).
The ark pole is not a ‘Mot’ — it
cannot collapse. Whoever trusts in what the ark pole represents, G-d’s infinite
power, will never falter. As it says, ‘He will never let the righteous collapse’ (Ps. 55:23), and, ‘The righteous shall
never collapse’ (Prov. 10:30). The ‘Bad’ is not a ‘Mot’, but the symbol of Divine mastery and
monarchy, of the yoke of His kingdom which will never collapse. The ‘Mot’, on
the other hand, symbolizes the yoke of the nations which G-d broke during the
first redemption: ‘I am the L-rd your G-d Who brought you out from Egypt where you
were slaves. I broke the bands of your yoke and led you forth with your heads
held high’ (Lev. 26:13).
So will G-d break the yoke of the
nations in the future, as it says, ‘They shall know that I am the L-rd, when I have broken the
bands of their yoke and delivered them from those who enslaved them’ (Ezek.
34:27).
On the one hand, G-d called the pole a בד ‘Bad’.
On the other hand, He established for the Kohanim, the holiest segment of the holy nation, linen [בד as well as שש also means
linen] garments: ‘The Cohain shall put on his linen [בד]
garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh’ (Lev. 6:3). Likewise, on Yom Kippur we find, ‘He shall put on the holy linen [בד]
tunic, and have linen pants on his body. He must also gird himself with a linen
sash and bind his head with a linen turban. They are holy garments’(Lev. 16:4).
We find the same thing when David dances before the ark: ‘David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the
Leviim who bore the ark, and the singers… And David had upon him an ephod of
linen’(I Chron. 15:27). Metzudas David
comments, ‘The linen ephod was akin to the
ephod of the Cohain Gadol, and was reserved for those who isolate themselves in the service of G-d.’
Precisely when the Cohain Gadol (reminder: Gadol is big, large or high so the meaning is High
Priest) is dressed in linen, and precisely when he stands
between the ark poles [Badim], the poles of faith and trust in G-d, does the
Cohain Gadol perform the Yom Kippur service. The holiest man is Israel on the holiest day in Israel performs
the service dressed in linen, as stated above, and standing between the poles [בדים].
Indeed, linen garments were
reserved for those isolating themselves in Divine service in the Temple, for they were the
symbol of the Master of the Sanctuary Who created His world in six [‘Shesh’]
days. G-d therefore decreed that His Kohanim must serve Him in linen garb,
called ‘shesh’ [שש].
Following is Or HaChaim: “Israel shall thus dwell securely”: When? When they are
alone. “They shall dwell” naturally follows “He shall proclaim, ‘Destroy!’”
G-d commanded Israel to annihilate every soul of the inhabitants of the land.
By doing so, “Israel shall dwell securely, alone [בדד].”
The Jew who believes and trusts in G-d, in בדים, will arrive at truth and faith and tranquility, whereas he who
trusts in man, in human strength, will arrive, G-d forbid, at, ‘How does the city sit alone’[בדד] (Lam. 1:1).
To our sorrow, those who try to pervert the separatist faith and
trust of ‘a nation that shall dwell alone [לבדד]’ (Num. 23:9) by claiming that it
is forbidden to rile up the nations, and that the Jewish People, even when
powerful, still depend on the nations, have no faith and distort the whole
concept of trust in G-d.
Yet faith and trust in G-d are no
small matter. The Jewish People must prove their trust in G-d by difficult,
frightening, and sometimes ostensibly dangerous acts, acts that demand of Israel courage, acts which by their very
nature show disdain for the non-Jew, anger him and threaten to bring a
confrontation between him and Israel, and all must be performed with complete
faith and trust that if Israel do what is decreed upon them, then G-d, too,
will fulfill what He promised His treasured nation.
We must know and grasp this great
principle, which is the key to speedy, magnificent redemption, without
suffering or tragedy. A brilliant redemption, in which G-d’s promise of “haste”
(Isa. 60:22) is fulfilled, will come only when the Jewish People are alone, set apart, in isolation, and trusting fully in G-d to defeat our enemies.
[Dear readers, I’m aware that this Parsha commentary is
difficult to follow, especially for those who don’t know Hebrew. The commentary
is excerpted and compiled from the Chapter ‘Faith and Trust’ of Rabbi Meir
Kahane’s book ‘The Jewish Idea’ and I tried to condense the explanation that
the Rav zt”l gives in this chapter. While working at it, it became clear to me
that the translation into English itself is part of the problem: it is not
really possible to transmit what in Hebrew is an elegant and powerful
interpretation based on Hebrew word roots, into English and leave it intact,
despite the great, good job that Raphael Blumberg did. And doubtlessly, my ‘condensation’
obfuscated it further. Someone famous, I forgot who, once said ‘A translation
is like a kiss through a handkerchief’ – probably, a condensed translation is
like a folded handkerchief – so, good luck in trying to get the best out of it…
Tzipora]
29 And Aaron
shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment
upon his heart, when he goes in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the
LORD continually.
For
Atonement, healing and income.
30 And thou
shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Tumim; and they shall
be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall bear
the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD
continually. 31 And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue. 32 And
it shall have a hole for the head in the midst thereof; it shall have a binding
of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of a coat of mail
that it be not rent. …
The
Urim and Tumim were instruments of consultation and have been lost now for over
twenty five centuries. We continue on with the colors and materials and then a
statement regarding the coronation of the Kahuna and the washing and dressing
for the occasion.
Parsha Ki Sisa
We continue with donations to the Mishkan. The half-shekel
donation was not so much needed at that time for the Mishkan or maintenance as
it was used in the Mikdash and to repair roads and wells for pilgrims to
Yerushalayim. Here it was used to count coins vs. the evil eye by counting
people directly.
30:11 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 12 'When thou take the
sum of the children of Israel, according to their number, then shall they give
every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou number them; that
there be no plague among them, when thou number them. 13 This they shall give,
every one that passes among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the
shekel of the sanctuary--the shekel is twenty gerahs--half a shekel for an offering
to the LORD. 14 Every one that passes among them that are numbered, from twenty
years old and upward, shall give the offering of the LORD. 15 The rich shall
not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when
they give the offering of the LORD, to make atonement for your souls. 16 And
thou shalt take the atonement money from the children of Israel, and shalt
appoint it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may be a memorial
for the children of Israel before the LORD, to make atonement for your souls.'
It is a simple matter of
a half-shekel to make an atonement for your soul. Would this be true all the
time with of course sincere repentance, nobody would ever see punishment in the
next world.
17 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 18 'Thou shalt also make
a laver of brass, and the base thereof of brass, whereat to wash; and thou
shalt put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and thou shalt put
water therein. 19 And Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet
thereat; 20 when they go into the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water,
that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to cause an
offering made by fire to smoke unto the LORD; 21 so they shall wash their hands
and their feet, that they die not; and it shall be a statute for ever to them,
even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.'
The brass laver was made
of mirrors used by women to attract their husbands during the time of throwing
all male babies into the river. They kept the female population going for the
next generation. Since these women kept peace in the home, it was appropriate
that the mirrors used in holiness be used for the laver to was the Cohanim from
Tuma Yadayim or Tuma on one’s hands.
22 Moreover the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 23 'Take thou also
unto thee the chief spices, of flowing myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet
cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty, and of sweet calamus two
hundred and fifty, 24 and of cassia five hundred, after the shekel of the
sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin. 25 And thou shalt make it a holy anointing
oil, a perfume compounded after the art of the perfumer; it shall be a holy
anointing oil. 26 And thou shalt anoint therewith the tent of meeting, and the
ark of the testimony, 27 and the table and all the vessels thereof, and the
candlestick and the vessels thereof, and the altar of incense, 28 and the altar
of burnt-offering with all the vessels thereof, and the laver and the base
thereof. 29 And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy;
whatsoever touches them shall be holy. 30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his
sons, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto Me in the priest's office.
31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying: This shall be a
holy anointing oil unto Me throughout your generations. 32 Upon the flesh of
man shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any like it, according to the
composition thereof; it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you. 33 Whosoever
compounds any like it, or whosoever puts any of it upon a stranger, he shall be
cut off from his people.'
One is forbidden to
concoct, buy or use the holy incense. This includes incense made by non-Jews imitating
what is written in our Holy Scriptures.
34 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Take unto thee sweet spices,
stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; sweet spices with pure frankincense; of each
shall there be a like weight. 35 And thou shalt make of it incense, a perfume
after the art of the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy. 36 And thou
shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the
tent of meeting, where I will meet with thee; it shall be unto you most holy.
37 And the incense which thou shalt make, according to the composition thereof
ye shall not make for yourselves; it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD. 38
Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereof, he shall be cut off from
his people.'
Personal use or incense
will involve being cut of from Am Yisrael (Kares).
31:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 2 'See, I have called
by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 3 and I
have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in
knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 to devise skilful works, to work
in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5 and in cutting of stones for setting,
and in carving of wood, to work in all manner of workmanship. 6 And I, behold,
I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan;
and in the hearts of all that are wise-hearted I have put wisdom, that they may
make all that I have commanded thee: 7 the tent of meeting, and the ark of the
testimony, and the ark-cover that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the
Tent; 8 and the table and its vessels, and the pure candlestick with all its
vessels, and the altar of incense; 9 and the altar of burnt-offering with all
its vessels, and the laver and its base; 10 and the plaited garments, and the
holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister
in the priest's office; 11 and the anointing oil, and the incense of sweet
spices for the holy place; according to all that I have commanded thee shall
they do.'
Betzalel and Oholiav looked
up Har Sinai and saw via prophecy the drawings/plans necessary for the clothing
of the Cohanim, the table, menorah, snuff pans, etc. The garment of the Cohain
Gadol, Ephod (apron), Choshen Mishpat (the plate and the jewels in place, etc.
all via prophecy. It was like the country music “Only on their mind(s)”.
12 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 13 'Speak thou also unto
the children of Israel, saying: Verily ye shall keep My sabbaths, for it is a
sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that ye may know that I am
the LORD who sanctify you.
Keep and guard the
treasure called Shabbos. In fact, the Nations of the World were not given it or
permitted us observe it. It is a Bris or contract only between the Bnei Yisrael
and HASHEM. Trump, Buffet, Gates, Musk can’t buy it for love or money as it is
only for the Bnei Yisrael. If they were to convert fine, if not, they are
forbidden to observe and enjoy this treasure.
14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore, for it is holy unto you;
every one that profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whosoever doeth
any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
A ben/bas Yisrael who
violates the holiness of the Shabbos. There are two types of penalties for
willful violation. Kares or Skillah (be pushed off a platform about 2meters
high and then stoned).
15 Six days shall work be done; but on the seventh day is a sabbath
of solemn rest, holy to the LORD; whosoever does any work in the sabbath day,
he shall surely be put to death.
It is not physical work
but Melacha or creative work such as sowing, sewing, plowing, willowing,
slaughtering for anybody but G-D (Korban Tamid), writing, erasing etc. 39 in
total.
16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to
observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
Observing and guarding
the holiness of Shabbos was not only for a memory of the six days of creation
but forever.
17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for ever; for
in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He ceased
from work and rested.'
Shabbos is a sign of HIS
Love for us and vice versa. Guard the Shabbos and the Shabbos will guard and
protect you.
18 And He gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of speaking with
him upon mount Sinai, the two tables of the testimony, tables of stone, written
with the finger of God.
The Luchos were carved
by the finger of G-D and letters had holes in them and they miraculously stayed
in place.
32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from
the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him:
'Up, make us a god who shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that
brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.' 2
And Aaron said unto them: 'Break off the golden rings, which are in the ears of
your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.' 3 And
all the people broke off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought
them unto Aaron. 4 And he received it at their hand, and fashioned it with a
graving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said: 'This is thy god, O
Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'
This is a generation
that saw the sea split and stand on the right and left of them going through
it. They heard “You shall have no other gods besides ME!” Yet they needed this
physical calf to be their god. The explanation is in Yechezkel chapter 1. They
had a leg like that of a calf and one of the faces was that of Yacov Avinu and
another like a calf. That was what they had seen and so the duplication was an
imagine of heaven – which was clearly prohibited.
5 And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron
made proclamation, and said: 'To-morrow shall be a feast to the LORD.' 6 And
they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought
peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to
make merry.
Aharon was trying to
delay them but they brought the offerings and made merry with eating, drinking
alcoholic drinks like beer and wine, but making merry is an euphemism for immodest
behavior in public.
7 And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Go, get thee down; for thy
people, that thou brought up out of the land of Egypt, have dealt corruptly; 8
they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them; they have
made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed unto it,
and said: This is thy god, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of
Egypt.'
The people have become
corrupted and have moral rot. [This is always the case of the Jews one criminal
like Madoff, a murderer or two like Ben Segal, Meyer Lansky, etc. and all the
Jews are blame! – We literally are our brothers keepers. Sometimes the reverse
is true like a Jonas Salk or Albert Einstein but never ignored.]
9 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'I have seen this people, and,
behold, it is a stiffnecked people. 10 Now therefore let Me alone, that My
wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of
thee a great nation.'
The people are stubborn
in their sins or stiffed neck people. I will give them my full fury.
11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, why doth
Thy wrath wax hot against Thy people, that Thou hast brought forth out of the
land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 Wherefore should the
Egyptians speak, saying: For evil did He bring them forth, to slay them in the
mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from Thy fierce
wrath, and repent of this evil against Thy people. 13 Remember Abraham, Isaac,
and Israel, Thy servants, to whom Thou didst swear by Thine own self, and say
unto them: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land
that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.'
14 And the LORD repented of the evil which He said He would do unto His people.
Moshe makes an argument
of behalf of all the people. When numbers are counted, the sinners were .5% of
the population, but the majority were afraid of this mob. Hur (husband of Miriam)
stood up to them and was murdered on the spot by them. {So much for idols and
murder} Moshe’s plea helped and the rest of the nation was saved. Why were they
blamed? Because they all should have stood up like Hur.
15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two
tables of the testimony in his hand; tables that were written on both their
sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. 16 And the tables
were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the
tables. 17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he
said unto Moses: 'There is a noise of war in the camp.' 18 And he said: 'It is
not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them
that cry for being overcome, but the noise of them that sing do I hear.'
I don’t hear war but I
hear singing and making merry.
19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that
he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the
tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount. 20 And he took the
calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and
strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it. 21 And
Moses said unto Aaron: 'What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought
a great sin upon them?' 22 And Aaron said: 'Let not the anger of my lord wax
hot; thou know the people, that they are set on evil. 23 So they said unto me:
Make us a god, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that
brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him. 24
And I said unto them: Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off; so they
gave it me; and I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.' 25 And
when Moses saw that the people were broken loose--for Aaron had let them loose
for a derision among their enemies-- 26 then Moses stood in the gate of the
camp, and said: 'Whoso is on the LORD'S side, let him come unto me.' And all
the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. 27 And he said unto
them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Put ye every man his sword upon
his thigh, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay
every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.'
28 And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of
the people that day about three thousand men. 29 And Moses said: 'Consecrate
yourselves to-day to the LORD, for every man hath been against his son and
against his brother; that He may also bestow upon you a blessing this day.' 30
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people: 'Ye have
sinned a great sin; and now I will go up unto the LORD, peradventure I shall
make atonement for your sin.' 31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said:
'Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them a god of gold. 32
Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray Thee, out
of Thy book which Thou hast written.' 33 And the LORD said unto Moses:
'Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.
Moshe lost his temper
and broke the Luchos that he felt the people did not deserve.
34 And now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have
spoken unto thee; behold, Mine angel shall go before thee; nevertheless in the
day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.' 35 And the LORD smote the
people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
Those who deserve it
will have the protection of MY Angel but others that participated in the Egel
shall die.
33:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Depart, go up hence, thou and
the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land of
which I swore unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying: Unto thy seed will
I give it-- 2 and I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the
Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the
Jebusite-- 3 unto a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in
the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people; lest I consume thee in
the way.'
Go and conquer the land
now, lest there be a delay and they be consumed in the desert.
4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned; and
no man did put on him his ornaments. 5 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto
the children of Israel: Ye are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst
of thee for one moment, I shall consume thee; therefore now put off thy ornaments
from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.' 6 And the children of Israel
stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward. 7 Now Moses
used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp;
and he called it the tent of meeting. And it came to pass, that every one that
sought the LORD went out unto the tent of meeting, which was without the camp.
8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the Tent, that all the people
rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until
he was gone into the Tent. 9 And it came to pass, when Moses entered into the
Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Tent; and
[the LORD] spoke with Moses. 10 And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud
stand at the door of the Tent, all the people rose up and worshipped, every man
at his tent door. 11 And the LORD spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man
speaks unto his friend. And he would return into the camp; but his minister
Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent.
The people repented and
Moshe went up to speak to G-D face to face.
12 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'See, Thou say unto me: Bring up
this people; and Thou hast not let me know whom Thou wilt send with me. Yet
Thou hast said: I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in My
sight. 13 Now therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, show
me now Thy ways, that I may know Thee, to the end that I may find grace in Thy
sight; and consider that this nation is Thy people.' 14 And He said: 'My presence
shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.' 15 And he said unto Him: 'If
Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein now shall it
be known that I have found grace in Thy sight, I and Thy people? is it not in
that Thou go with us, so that we are distinguished, I and Thy people, from all
the people that are upon the face of the earth?'
I want to know you L-RD.
17 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'I will do this thing also that
thou hast spoken, for thou hast found grace in My sight, and I know thee by
name.' 18 And he said: 'Show me, I pray Thee, Thy glory.' 19 And He said: 'I
will make all My goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of the
LORD before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will
show mercy on whom I will show mercy.' 20 And He said: 'Thou canst not see My
face, for man shall not see Me and live.' 21 And the LORD said: 'Behold, there
is a place by Me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock. 22 And it shall come to
pass, while My glory passes by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock,
and will cover thee with My hand until I have passed by. 23 And I will take
away My hand, and thou shalt see My back; but My face shall not be seen.'
This section with attributes
of G-D is always said on fast days and Moshe only was shown the place of the
Tephillin on the back of G-D’s neck as if HE has a shape or form.
34:1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Hew thee two tables of stone
like unto the first; and I will write upon the tables the words that were on
the first tables, which thou didst break. 2 And be ready by the morning, and
come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to Me on the
top of the mount. 3 And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be
seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before
that mount.' 4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses
rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had
commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone. 5 And the LORD
descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of
the LORD. 6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed: 'The LORD, the LORD,
God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth;
7 keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and
transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children,
unto the third and unto the fourth generation.' 8 And Moses made haste, and
bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 9 And he said: 'If now I have
found grace in Thy sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray Thee, go in the midst of
us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and
take us for Thine inheritance.' 10 And He said: 'Behold, I make a covenant;
before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been wrought in all
the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which thou art shall see
the work of the LORD that I am about to do with thee, that it is tremendous. 11
Observe thou that which I am commanding thee this day; behold, I am driving out
before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite,
and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a
covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou go, lest they be for a
snare in the midst of thee. 13 But ye shall break down their altars, and dash
in pieces their pillars, and ye shall cut down their Asherim.
In order that you don’t
marry their daughters or sons and be convinced by love to go estray.
14 For thou shalt bow down to no other god; for the LORD, whose
name is Jealous, is a jealous God;
Like a jealous lover aka
you should love they G-D with all your heart, soul and might.
15 lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and
they go astray after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and they
call thee, and thou eat of their sacrifice;
Be wary of the false
gods of the land.
16 and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their
daughters go astray after their gods, and make thy sons go astray after their
gods.
Intermarriage is a
dangerous thing and separation of holy and profane is good.
17 Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. 18 The feast of unleavened
bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I
commanded thee, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib
thou came out from Egypt. 19 All that opens the womb is Mine; and of all thy
cattle thou shalt sanctify the males, the firstlings of ox and sheep. 20 And
the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not
redeem it, then thou shalt break its neck. All the first-born of thy sons thou
shalt redeem. And none shall appear before Me empty. 21 Six days thou shalt
work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest; in plowing time and in harvest
thou shalt rest. 22 And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, even of the
first-fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the turn of the
year. 23 Three times in the year shall all thy males appear before the Lord
GOD, the God of Israel. 24 For I will cast out nations before thee, and enlarge
thy borders; neither shall any man covet thy land, when thou go up to appear
before the LORD thy God three times in the year. 25 Thou shalt not offer the
blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the sacrifice of the
feast of the passover be left unto the morning. 26 The choicest first-fruits of
thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not
seethe a kid in its mother's milk.'
A list of Mitzvos is in
this paragraph from Shabbos, Yomim Tovim, Bikurim, not eating blood is
mentioned here and if one has time he should look up the Rashi on this.

27 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Write thou these words, for after
the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.' 28
And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat
bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant,
the ten words. 29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai
with the two tables of the testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the
mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face sent forth beams while He
talked with him. 30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses,
behold, the skin of his face sent forth beams; and they were afraid to come
nigh him. 31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the
congregation returned unto him; and Moses spoke to them. 32 And afterward all
the children of Israel came nigh, and he gave them in commandment all that the
LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had done speaking
with them, he put a veil on his face.
He absorbed the holiness
and the DIVINE LIGHT on the mount.
34 But when Moses went in before the LORD that He might speak with
him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out; and spoke unto
the children of Israel that which he was commanded.
Men feared the DIVINE
LIGHT but Moshe could speak directly to
G-D.
35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin
of Moses' face sent forth beams; and Moses put the veil back upon his face,
until he went in to speak with Him.
Moshe’s face with a DIVINE
LIGHT like a child who ate chocolate and came before his mother with a brownish
face.
Parsha Parah
This Parsha reminds us
that before Pesach, we must be pure of Tuma to offer the Korban Pesach.
Bamidbar (Numbers) 19:1 – 22. This is a Law of Torah and given by our Creator
so that we cannot understand how the Tahor becomes Tumay and through this the
Tumay becomes Tahor and then the Tahor is purified by an ordinary Mikvah and
not one with living waters.
19:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying: 2 This
is the statute of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying: Speak unto the
children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer, faultless, wherein is no
blemish, and upon which never came yoke. 3 And ye shall give her unto Eleazar
the priest, and she shall be brought forth without the camp, and she shall be
slain before his face. 4 And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with
his finger, and sprinkle of her blood toward the front of the tent of meeting
seven times. 5 And the heifer shall be burnt in his sight; her skin, and her
flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall be burnt. 6 And the priest shall
take cedar-wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the
burning of the heifer. 7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall
bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he may come into the camp, and the
priest shall be unclean until the even. 8 And he that burns her shall wash his
clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the
even. 9 And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and
lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the
congregation of the children of Israel for a water of sprinkling; it is a
purification from sin. 10 And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall
wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even; and it shall be unto the
children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a
statute for ever. 11 He that touches the dead, even any man's dead body, shall
be unclean seven days; 12 the same shall purify himself therewith on the third
day and on the seventh day, and he shall be clean; but if he purify not himself
the third day and the seventh day, he shall not be clean. 13 Whosoever touches
the dead, even the body of any man that is dead, and purifies not himself--he
hath defiled the tabernacle of the LORD--that soul shall be cut off from
Israel; because the water of sprinkling was not dashed against him, he shall be
unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him. 14 This is the law: when a man dies
in a tent, every one that cometh into the tent, and everything that is in the
tent, shall be unclean seven days. 15 And every open vessel, which hath no
covering close-bound upon it, is unclean. 16 And whosoever in the open field
touches one that is slain with a sword, or one that dies of himself, or a bone
of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. 17 And for the unclean they
shall take of the ashes of the burning of the purification from sin, and running
water shall be put thereto in a vessel. 18 And a clean person shall take
hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all
the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched
the bone, or the slain, or the dead, or the grave. 19 And the clean person
shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day; and
on the seventh day he shall purify him; and he shall wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even. 20 But the man that shall
be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from the
midst of the assembly, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the LORD; the
water of sprinkling hath not been dashed against him: he is unclean. 21 And it
shall be a perpetual statute unto them; and he that sprinkles the water of
sprinkling shall wash his clothes; and he that touches the water of sprinkling
shall be unclean until even. 22 And whatsoever the unclean person touches shall
be unclean; and the soul that touches him shall be unclean until even.
The Unique Bar
Mitzvah Bottle by Rabbi Yerachmiel Tilles
https://ascentofsafed.com/cgi-bin/ascent.cgi?Name=1473-24
Eduard and Alina
Ashurov married on a sultry June evening in 2008, in Brooklyn, N.Y. That night
Eduard set aside a bottle of wine, telling his bride they would use it to
celebrate the bar mitzvah of their firstborn son.
Soon enough they were blessed with a son, whom they named Steven. He was
followed shortly by a second son, whom they named Zachary.
Born in Nalchik, a city in Russia that was once home to a large community of
Mountain Jews, Eduard had a stronger Jewish background than Alina, who hailed
from Vinnytsia, Ukraine. Raising their children in the Los Angeles area, the
couple was excited to be able to give their sons a Jewish education.
But then, Eduard passed away in 2011 of a sudden heart attack, and Alina's
world came crashing down. Left with a toddler and a newborn, she moved to Chino
Hills, California, to be closer to her mother, Rimma.
Eduard always dreamed
of our sons' bar mitzvahs," Alina said. "I still have the bottle he
set aside tucked in my closet. But when Eduard died, it just didn't seem
possible. I had no idea how to prepare Steven for a bar mitzvah by myself, so I
gave up on that dream."
One breezy winter day in 2021, when Zachary was 10 and Steven was 12, Rimma
took the boys to the park. That same afternoon, Rabbi Mendy Harlig, who had
moved to town three years prior with his wife, Esther, to found a Chabad
center, took his young boys to the park as well.
As soon as they arrived, his toddler made a beeline for the swings, where he
bumped head-first into the two older boys. The kids recovered quickly, as kids
tend to do, but Mendy apologized to Rimma. They began chatting.
On a whim, he asked if she was Jewish. She was!
It was right before the Jewish holiday of Purim, so Mendy dashed to his car
where he had several mishloach manot gift packages. After handing the packages
to Rimma and the children, they exchanged numbers and waved goodbye.
Following their "chance" encounter, Mendy and Esther invited Zachary
and Steven to join the Jewish Kids' Club-a monthly program that allows children
to explore their Jewish heritage through interactive workshops and activities.
For the first time in their lives, the boys discovered that Judaism could be
fun and even started learning to read Hebrew.
While chatting with Alina one day, Mendy asked if she was planning a bar
mitzvah for Steven, who was about to turn 13. Alina's eyes welled up with tears
and she told him about the wine bottle her late husband had set aside so many
years before.
The Harligs promised Alina that they would help her fulfill Eduard's dream.
With a few months to go until Steven's Hebrew birthday, they worked together to
pull everything together in time.
On May 1, friends and family of the Ashurovs-including some from New
York-gathered in the backyard of the Harligs' Chabad House. Rimma and Alina
watched with pride as Steven donned tefillin and chanted Kaddish in memory of
his father.
The event culminated when Zachary and Steven stood in front of the Torah scroll
and accepted Jewish names upon themselves: Shmuel and Zacharya.
Towards the end of the party, one of Eduard's relatives shared with Mendy that
Eduard was buried in Old Montefiore Cemetery in New York, mere yards away from
the resting place of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous
memory.
"It all became clear in that moment," says Mendy. "The 'reason'
my son bumped into Zachary and Steven at the park was so that we could help
fulfill Eduard's wish for his sons to have a bar mitzvah. And the reason we are
in Chino Hills in the first place is because of the Rebbe, whose care for every
individual inspired us to serve this community."

Day 876 since Oct. 7th Day 1 of Lion Roar or Epic Fury start
of week 126
I was happily reading my newspaper
at 08:15 AM when a siren went off and my phone went beeeeep beeeeep very long.
So my wife and I were down to the shelter. The US and Israel were attacking
Iran is a surprise daylight attack. I started the morning service alone and
went to the Minyan which was crowded and in the Middle of Shema Prayer ten
minutes ahead of the usual time. I caught up quickly. We read first Parsha
Zachor just in case of attack as that was the most important part of the day
and then we read as usual with Zachor in its proper place. After the prayers,
Zachor was reread for women and then at Mincha. As I got home a missile warning
so I grabbed the Kiddush Cup, wine and olives and made Kiddush in the shelter.
(There is no Kiddush unless one has a meal the size of an olive – Halacha
[Jewish Law]).
We then ate our Shabbos meal and I
said to my wife I am taking my Shabbos nap. Beep-beep warning of an attack on
Israel. My daughter was in Yerushalayim for Shabbos and enjoyed most of the day
and the grandchildren in a few cities managed with the sirens. The prayers for
after the Shabbos, I did at home after the all clear and the blessing for the
new moon of the month of Adar.
Throughout the day there was a
military call-up of reservists and fighter aircraft flying by.
The Iranians were used to Obama and
Biden but Witkoff and Kushner told VP Vance that the Iranian Proposal was 100%
BS when they did not think it could go anywhere. Trump has an allergy to BS Negotiations.

Day 877 since Oct. 7th Day 2 of Roaring Lion or Epic Fury
The name of the Iranian game is to
exhaust Israel. Last night a few times until 01:40 plus all clear and this
morning at 6:15, 6:38, 6:53, 7:06 a few missiles each time to each area.
I got home from Schul and another
beep-beep but not here. Then a few booms were heard after 10AM 9:59 alert 10:06
siren, 10:16, 10:24 more sirens. Israel made 500 sorties over 1200 munitions in
24hours. The US with the Tomahawks and others the USA 900 over Iran. The
Emirates, Saudi, Yarden and others outside of Oman hit.
One 40year old aide for an aging
lady died by a direct hit in Tel Aviv. The top broadcasters worked 16hours
straight on Shabbos.
Sheila
K. wrote: IRGC , we are told are being offered immunity now if they stand down
now. If they wait, no immunity. Sounds like holdouts are still sending
missiles. Concern of many in US is Iranian sleeper cells. It is known there are
such groups. And they may retaliate inside US.

Day 878 since Oct. 7th Day 3 of Roaring Lion or Epic Fury
Everybody got to get into the act as
Hezballah fired for a few days rockets and drones on the north and last night
rockets on Tel Aviv. Friendly fire incident – a relatively new pilot shot down
an F-15 USAF. Pilots landed safely. A port or two, command center of the
Iranian Navy and some Iranian Ships landed in Davy Jones Locker.
On Sunday, I heard a heavy refueling
tanker leaving Ben Gurion Airport at 4AM. A lot of planes in the skies but high
up that we hear them and can’t see them.
A man aged 102 fell on his head
while going to the shelter and passed away.
The missile (see below) that killed
the mother, father and four children in a direct hit on a Synagogue Shelter
yesterday and destroyed every building in the Beit Shemesh Neighborhood was not
shot at by an Arrow Antimissile.
7AM on the dot, there was an attack
by five missiles. After the all clear, we were out for about five minutes and
another attack of 4 missiles. A few drones from Iran penetrated Israeli
Airspace and were shot down. At 12:02PM I took a snack and was about to return
to put out this update when another warning occurred and 12:09 sirens from
Ashdod to almost Acco from the Dead Sea to the coast in the west there were
sirens. In the first attack of the day, pieces from ours or theirs landed
outside of a few Moshavim in the Petach Tikva area. We were released from the
shelter close to 12:25. At 12:31 another round of missiles and something hit
Beer Sheva from the 12:35 siren. Finally, at 13:01 we were permitted to leave
the shelter area. [Note: Many Israelis with home shelters don’t have toilets
like the public shelters do and after 10minutes, when shrapnel can fall, people
make a pit stop and back. It happens that the rockets from Iran come in series
like south, north, center and west or east.] It is no fun sitting prisoner in a
small shelter, even with a TV or radio for about an hour.

Purim
Day 879 since Oct. 7th Day 4 of Roaring Lion or Epic Fury
The last two days temperatures fell
in Israel. In the early morning or night we have blankets in the shelter not
like with Rising Lion and the ventilator. It was between 4 to 6 C or 40 –
42/3F.
As soon as the war started, my solar
energy company raised my battery storage to 100% capacity against black outs. I
usually have 10% reserve and had raised it to 22% by myself.
I went to the afternoon prayers
outside in the corner. We read the Torah and then in the middle of the
Haphtarah a warning. Another 78 year old and I left as fast as we could. The
warning was 11 minutes. The town on the next hill got the siren (less than .5km
from us in the direction I pray south-south east towards Yerushalayim but not
us. Damage was done by our missile shreds in Petach Tikva. Earlier in the day I heard 7 sonic booms
either planes or arrow missiles.
Rabbi Goldberg had just finished
saying: “If we get a siren and have to disperse to our houses after the
blessings of the Megillah, one should not talk.” Hillel, our reader had just
finished the second blessing when we heard like a siren and then the full
waling of the siren. In my ear I could hear ‘enemy aircraft penetration’ it was
from the Dead Sea to Yerushalayim and down the hills unto us. This time I
really ran with my walker down hill which is not good for my heart.

11:07 again down to the shelter and
a dispersion of bombs was used and they are time bombs in a city in the center
of the country.
In Lebanon, Iraq and Iran,
rocket/missile capabilities being taken out.
A few days with little sleep makes
me end this part of the update. Today is Purim and that also will chop off news
time. All Israel is OK today so far.
Mar. 4th
Shushan Purim
Day 880 since Oct. 7th Day 5 of Roaring Lion or Epic Fury
Israelis who went to various Abraham
Accords States have no shelters and it is Ramadan with no food.
Some people I don’t understand. The
Emirates shot down 3 F15 jets. If you shot down one, it is one too many. Go and
review but three is criminal negligence. But what’s $300,000,000 to pay for a
few replacements for the Amir.
Israel has taken out 300 launcher
trucks and platforms. The US others and still they have more. Based on the
number of missiles sent they still have 2-3,000 in their arsenal. It could be
that the B2 took out many in stowage facilities.
We have taken out more and more Nuke
sites that we did not touch during Rising Lion. They got some internal police
stations knocked out and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was hit, but they
moved their bases and men who survived to alternative places. Once we tell the
population to go to demonstrate, the guards will come out and then we will hit
them from the air.
All 17 naval ships have been taken
out. I have no idea of the speed boats. They had missile cannons on the shore
that still may need taking out.
There was a TV debate last night
whether Israel should leave the incompetent Naim Qassem alive for his
replacement might be like Nasrallah.

Mar. 5th
Day 881 since Oct. 7th Day 6 of Roaring Lion or Epic Fury
Around 2PM yesterday there was a
missile from Iran that went towards Turkey and was shot down by NATO. We had
the alert and were released. Then I heard from the shelter my wife calling me
back as there was a barrage from Lebanon. On my way towards the shelter, an
alert from Iran sounded it was a joint attack towards Tel Aviv and the center
from both Lebanon and Iran. Released and then another coordinated attack of one
or two missiles from Iran.
On piece of shrapnel fell yesterday
afternoon a few hundred meters from where my wife purchased food earlier on day
5 in the morning.
100 plane raid on the Defense
Buildings – cyber, revolutionary guards, internal police, army, etc.
The Iranians are sending nuisance
missiles. A lot towards Ben Gurion Airport based on where Shrapnel falls a lot.
One or two at a time is easier to deal with see the reopening of the airport
from time to time. A plane on its way had to divert at 10:25 AM but is probably
landing now.
I have old men’s problems and woke
up at 2:09 AM. I was about to doze off when Beeeeep around 2:25AM and then 3AM
and 4AM so I took a shower and then at 5AM slept to 7AM. It was about a total sleep
of 6 hours.
