Parsha Behaalosecha, return to Judaism Part 4

Updating the prayer list, Avraham ben Devorah of course still needs our prayers he had surgery two weeks ago. Menashe ben Golda has finished his medical treatment and can be removed from the prayer list.

A notification regarding this Torah Drasha for the next few weeks. Parshiyos Shelach Lecha, Korach, and Chukkas in Israel, I will be traveling taking my family to see some sights and being with my forester son and my grandchildren for a vacation a bit longer than usual. I may or may not be able to produce and publish the blogspot in a shorter form. Contrary to most of my working vacations, this one is going to be a bit busier and traveling than usual. In case you don’t see the Parsha Published by either 4 PM Israel time or 9 AM on Friday in the States please go to back issues from the blogspot achieves per year.

Parsha Behaalosecha

The Medrash compares our or the Cohain’s lighting of the golden menorah to that of a blind man who lights for a seeing person in his dark home. It is our HaKaras HaTov Le HASHEM (recognizing the good from HASHEM).

This week, we have 5 Mitzvos given 3 negative and 2 positive. One of them is the Mitzvah of Pessach Sheni discussed in this week’s Parsha. The Parsha somehow begins by hinting about Chanucha a spiritually freedom celebration and goes on to talk about Pesach a physical as well as spiritual freedom celebration. The following I took from last year’s OU.org Torah Tidbits: RAMBAM says (seems to say) that a boy or girl who reaches the age of Mitzvos after Pesach but before Pesach Sheni, should preferably not participate in the first Pesach (as a child) but rather should bring Pesach Sheni (as a halachic adult). If, however, they were included in (and did eat) Pesach Rishon, then they do not bring. A non-Jew who converts between the Pessachim, would not have been part of the first Pesach. He must bring Pesach Sheni as a (new) Jew. This is surprising considering that the later was a Jew on Pesach Rishon and the second one had to link whatsoever to Judaism!

From the day that the Mishkan was erected, it was covered by a heavenly Cloud during the day and a fiery cloud at night. Only when the cloud would lift would the People travel. And when the cloud rested, the People would camp. It happened that sometimes the People traveled a few hours after they had camped; sometimes they stayed in one place for a period of days or months or years. By G-d's command the People camped and by G-d's command the People would travel. This is a good reason for obeying the commandments and yet time and time the people sinned. OTOH with all the miracles today (see below) I can’t understand, no I can’t understand why life goes on the way it was, without thinking about HASHEM Yisborach.

8:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 2 'Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him: When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the candlestick.'

When you light: Why is the portion dealing with the menorah juxtaposed to the portion dealing with the chieftains? For when Aaron saw the dedication [offerings] of the chieftains, he felt distressed over not joining them in this dedication-neither he nor his tribe. So God said to him, “By your life, yours is greater than theirs, for you will light and prepare the lamps.” - [Tanchuma Beha’alothecha 3] When you light: Heb. בְּהַעֲלֹתְךָ, lit., when you cause to ascend. Since the flame rises, Scripture describes kindling in terms of ascending. He is required to kindle the lamp until the flame rises by itself (Shab. 21a). Our Sages further expounded from here that there was a step in front of the menorah, on which the kohen stood to prepare [the lamps]. — [Sifrei Beha’alothecha 3] Toward the face of the menorah: Toward the middle lamp, which is not on [one of] the branches, but on the menorah itself. — [Men. 98b] Shall cast their light: The six on the six branches; the three eastern ones-that is their wicks-facing towards the center one, and likewise, the three western ones, the tops of their wicks facing toward the center one. Why [were the wicks facing inwards, thus giving off so little light]? So that [people] should not say that He [God] needs the light. — [Tanchuma Beha’alothecha 5]

Bamidbar 8:2 “When you light” – we find in many places that the Holy One Blessed be HE commanded things concerning lamps. Shemos 27:20 and Vayikra 24:4 so here it the lamp must be lit with pure olive oil even though the written Torah does not specifically say so. Does HASHEM need the light from Temple? Of course not, it is HIS tree of life that extends from the north to the south. With the sun rising on the right side then at noon illuminating the trunk before going to the left side of the tree. So the 7 lights from the Menorah in the Temple physically will never illuminate like the sun or spiritually illuminate like the tree of life. Yet being created in the image of G-D, we were given the power to imitate HASHEM and his tree of life and the sun through the Incense and Menorah. A mini-smell and light show of Gan Eden.
The following is one of the warnings of modesty from the Zohar. “The following is found in the book of Melech Shlomo (King Solomon). The incense has the virtue of diffusing joy and putting away death. For whereas Judgement prevails on the exterior, joy and illumination, on the other hand, proceed from the Interior, the seat of all happiness.  The incense thus has the virtue of annulling death and binds all together and was therefore offered on the interior altar. “Take the Leviim” (8:6) this means that it was needful to cleanse them and draw them on that they might be linked to their own proper place. For they symbolize the Left Arm, identical with the side of Judgement and whoever proceeds from the side of Judgement ought not to let his hair grow, as he thereby strengthens Judgement in the world. FOR THE SAME REASON A WOMAN MAN TO HAVER HER HAIR EXPOSED TO VIEW, BUT IT BEHOVES HER TO COVERHERHEAD AND KEEP HER HAIR CONSEALED. When this is done, all those who proceed from the side of Judgement are blessed; and thus explained the command about taking the Leviim and cleansing them.

3 And Aaron did so: he lite the lamps thereof so as to give light in front of the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses. 4 And this was the work of the candlestick, beaten work of gold; unto the base thereof, and unto the flowers thereof, it was beaten work; according unto the pattern which the LORD had shown Moses, so he made the candlestick.

Moshe did not make the Candelabra but Betzalel did. It is credited to him as he commanded it to be executed.

shall cast their light: The six on the six branches; the three eastern ones-that is their wicks-facing towards the center one, and likewise, the three western ones, the tops of their wicks facing toward the center one. Why [were the wicks facing inwards, thus giving off so little light]? So that [people] should not say that He [God] needs the light. — [Tanchuma Beha’alothecha 5]

Said Rebbe Yitzchak: One who wants to become wise should turn to the south [when praying], and one who wishes to become rich should turn to the north. Your sign for this is the Table was to the north, and the Menorah to the south. Said Rebbe Yehoshua ben Levi: One should always turn to the south, because through obtaining wisdom, he will obtain wealth. (Baba Basra 25b) This means if we are facing east, the left side of the Aron HaKadosh is for wealth and the right side is for wisdom. When I was young, I used to pray mainly on the right side but in FL I pray on the left side for leaving something for my grandchildren and my Kollel to continue the Torah as is written “No flour no Torah, and without Torah there will be no flour.” Our Sages say, “Give Ma’aseh and you will become rich”.

Shemen Zayis (olive oil) is a symbol of wisdom and the extra-virgin olive oil used in the Temple for lighting is light for all mankind to the world for Torah. Thus the Menorah in the Temple represented wisdom for each day of the week generated 24/7 from the Beis HaMikdash.

5 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 6 'Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.

In the same vein that the Mishkan and Cohanim had to be made ready and purified for the service of the L-RD so too the Leviim.

7 And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of purification upon them, and let them cause a razor to pass over all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves.

Sprinkle them with cleansing water: from the ashes of the red cow, so as to cleanse them from contamination by those who were in contact with the dead. and pass a razor over all their flesh: I found in the writings of R. Moses Hadarshan (the preacher): Since they [the Levites] were submitted in atonement for the firstborn who had practiced idolatry [when they worshipped the golden calf], which is called sacrifices to the dead-and one afflicted with Tzora’at is considered dead-they required shaving like those afflicted with Tzora’at.

The whole process made sure that the Leviim were separated from the Bnei Yisrael in holiness.

8 Then let them take a young bullock, and its meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin-offering.

Being sinless after the offering was the culmination of the purification process which started with the mikvah, shaving and sacrifice.

9 And thou shalt present the Levites before the tent of meeting; and thou shalt assemble the whole congregation of the children of Israel. 10 And thou shalt present the Levites before the LORD; and the children of Israel shall lay their hands upon the Levites. 11 And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD for a wave-offering from the children of Israel, that they may be to do the service of the LORD. 12 And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks; and offer thou the one for a sin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering, unto the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites.  …

9:15 And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, even the tent of the testimony; and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until morning. 16 So it was always: the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night. 17 And whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tent, then after that the children of Israel journeyed; and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel encamped. 18 At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they encamped: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they remained encamped.

I will cover this section a little later at the end of chapter 10. The section here is important for there were less than 40 stops in the Midbar. We have here a clear explanation of the resting that was done and the taking up of the encampment.

19 And when the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not. 20 And sometimes the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they remained encamped, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed. 21 And sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning; and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they journeyed; or if it continued by day and by night, when the cloud was taken up, they journeyed. 22 Whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, abiding thereon, the children of Israel remained encamped, and journeyed not; but when it was taken up, they journeyed. 23 At the commandment of the LORD they encamped, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed; they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

We see here that the whole nation – men, woman and children marched in the army of HASHEM when the command was given.

10:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 2 'Make you two trumpets of silver; of beaten work shalt thou make them; and they shall be unto thee for the calling of the congregation, and for causing the camps to set forward. 3 And when they shall blow with them, all the congregation shall gather themselves unto thee at the door of the tent of meeting. 4 And if they blow but with one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee. 5 And when ye blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall take their journey.

There is nothing new under the sun. The Trumpet has been around for war signals for thousands of years. We have sirens today that set the alarm or loud speakers but the trumpet or bugle was the main commander. Anybody who saw an old Rin-Tin-Tin Show or movie with the US troops of yesteryear, will note that the bugle gives wake-up, assembly or roll call, battle, and taps for the lowering of the flag or a funeral when day is done and gone the sun.

6 And when ye blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall set forward; they shall blow an alarm for their journeys. 7 But when the assembly is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. 8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for a statute forever throughout your generations. 9 And when ye go to war in your land against the adversary that oppresses you, then ye shall sound an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies. 10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed seasons, and in your new moons, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.' {P}
11 And it came to pass in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony. 12 And the children of Israel set forward by their stages out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran. -- 13 And they took their first journey, according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 14 And in the first place the standard of the camp of the children of Judah set forward according to their hosts; and over his host was Nachshon the son of Amminadav. 15 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nathaniel the son of Zuar. 16 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon. 17 And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who bore the tabernacle, set forward. 18 And the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their hosts; and over his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur. 19 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 20 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel. 21 And the Kohathites the bearers of the sanctuary set forward, that the tabernacle might be set up against their coming. 22 And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their hosts; and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud. 23 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. 24 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni. 25 And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan, which was the rearward of all the camps, set forward according to their hosts; and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 26 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ochran. 27 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan. 28 Thus were the journeys of the children of Israel according to their hosts. -- And they set forward.  29 And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law: 'We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said: I will give it you; come (you) with us, and we will do thee good; for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.' 30 And he said unto him: 'I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.' 31 And he said: 'Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be to us instead of eyes. 32 And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what good soever the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.' 33 And they set forward from the mount of the LORD three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting-place for them. 34 And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp. 35 And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said: 'Rise up, O LORD, and let Thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate Thee flee before Thee.' 36 And when it rested, he said: 'Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of the families of Israel.'

The Section regarding the movement of the Shivaism (tribes) ends with this blessing which we use every time we open the Aron in the Synagogue. Because this last section is surrounded by Nuns some say that it was written out of this place and brought here and others treat this as if it were a book from the Torah making Vayikra into three Seforim. I might not know the reason for the two Nuns but it definitely appears in the right place logically. The particular blessing of the movement of the Teva was so rare (less than 40 travels in the desert and a few here and there in Eretz Yisrael that this blessing becomes outstanding as a Pidyon Chamor (redemption of the first born donkey) is today.

11:1 And the people were as murmurers, speaking evil in the ears of the LORD; and when the LORD heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and devoured in the uttermost part of the camp. 2 And the people cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto the LORD, and the fire abated. 3 And the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. 4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting; and the children of Israel also wept on their part, and said: 'Would that we were given flesh to eat! 5 We remember the fish, which we were wont to eat in Egypt for nought; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic; 6 but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all; we have nought save this manna to look to.' -- 7 Now the manna was like coriander seed, and the appearance thereof as the appearance of bdellium. 8 The people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and seethed it in pots, and made cakes of it; and the taste of it was as the taste of a cake baked with oil. 9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it. … 17 And I will come down and speak with thee there; and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone. 18 And say thou unto the people: Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow, and ye shall eat flesh; for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying: Would that we were given flesh to eat! for it was well with us in Egypt; therefore, the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. 19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; 20 but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you; because that ye have rejected the LORD who is among you, and have troubled Him with weeping, saying: Why, now, came we forth out of Egypt?

The people complain about the miracle Mann from heaven. Moshe doesn’t understand if there will be enough flocks and herds to feed them. At first it sounds incredulous for not believing in the power of the creator. When I asked a Rav or a friend years ago (forgot whom), he told me – not physical food for their Yetzer Hara was so big that Moshe did not believe that they would ever be satisfied. HASHEM then sends in the quail not for a night but 30 days. The gluttons died instantly upon eating almost raw the birds. The others cooked them, blessed HASHEM for the miracles and survived.

… 24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the Tent. 25 And the LORD came down in the cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy elders; and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more. 26 But there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were recorded, but had not gone out unto the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp. 27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said: 'Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.' 28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses from his youth up, answered and said: 'My lord Moses, shut them in.' 29 And Moses said unto him: 'Art thou jealous for my sake? would that all the LORD'S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His spirit upon them!'

Because the two men claimed that they had not gotten the elder written down in the drawing, they got prophecy and their names written in the eternal Torah as they were humble and modest for the honor of others.

… 32 And the people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails; he that gathered least gathered ten heaps; and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp. 33 While the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

It was explained to me that the quail produce in their muscles certain chemicals when they fly and these gluttons ate the birds raw and did not wait. Those who koshered and cooked their meals properly, in due time allowed the chemicals to leave.

34 And the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people that lusted.

Literally the graves of the gluttonous of the people.

35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed unto Hazeroth; and they abode at Hazeroth.

The people were posed at this point to enter Eretz Yisrael so if they behaved they would but if not they would return to the desert wilderness.

12:1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.

Miriam was interested in the nuptial rights of Tzipporah. I don’t want to open up all the laws of the Ketuvah here but to tell you that Miriam was halachically correct about Nuptial rights of a woman. Her sin was talking behind Moshe’s back to Aaron. Had she asked Aaron a Psak on how to approach a husband denying his wife congenial rights, without mentioning Moshe’s name; she would not have sinned! It was done out of love for her sister-in-law and not hatred for baby brother Moshe that her punishment in this world was relatively light.

… 9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and He departed. 10 And when the cloud was removed from over the Tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow; and Aaron looked upon Miriam; and, behold, she was leprous. 11 And Aaron said unto Moses: 'Oh my lord, lay not, I pray thee, sin upon us, for that we have done foolishly, and for that we have sinned. 12 Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.' 13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying: 'Heal her now, O God, I beseech Thee.'

Moshe prayed the longest prayer for 40 days and nights and this is the shortest prayer.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'If her father had but spit in her face, should she not hide in shame seven days? let her be shut up without the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.' 15 And Miriam was shut up without the camp seven days; and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again. 16 And afterward the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.

Because Miriam waited to find out what happens to Moshe, she was rewarded in that the whole camp waited for her.

A lesson in history of the other movements in Judaism.

The Reform movement started as an off-shoot from Shabbtai Tzvi and Jacob Frank they were first in existence in Germany about 1796 but did not take to the people. In 1810 there was another attempt finally in 1818 they had the first Synagogue that was liberal. It was probably more like a very traditional Conservative Synagogue today.

Between 1842 – 1844 the traditionalist Rabbi Zachariah Frankel began to oppose the changing of the Reform Prayer Book to things opposed to Halacha set down for generations. (The oldest Ashkenaz Siddur goes back to sometime between 730 to 750 CE if I recall correctly and he did not want to change it.) Around 1866 after all the Reformists took to the Socialistic Revolutions of 1848 there was a bit of a movement to modernize Orthodoxy. By the 1880’s the Reform had moved so far from traditional Judaism giving up on Kashrus, Shabbos and Family Purity that the traditional Rabbis were alarmed. Already in 1881 there was an incident with non-kosher catering which the Reform had pooh-pooed over. Around 1888 the Conservative Rabbis broke away.

So we have a 3300-year version of Judaism represented by the various Orthodox streams vs. a less than 200 years of a man-made movement and one about 140-year-old that has not found its way to this day which way it is going. It tried to follow the Reform and change its Siddur and add women clergy and Aliyos to the Torah. Instead of growing or remaining the main domination in Judaism it is the fastest shrinking branch. Basically, today people go there who do not want to observe Shabbos, Family Purity and may or may not observe Kashrus at home but find the Reform a joke which is called “Judaism” when they know it has no semblance anymore of Halacha and their main cause is J-Street and the Palestinian People.

A personal footnote from I who was born a 6th generation Reform Jew. In the years 1954 to 1961 I often attended services there. The Siddur had some semblance of a tradition Siddur. What I saw a year or two ago on a cruise was such a joke I could not make out Rhyme or Reason for it. (and neither could my two non-religious friends who “prayed” at the service but they were Israelis).

Part 4 (all new 5776) of my return to Judaism that started 50 years ago.

I always said that I became Frum not because of them but in spite of them. Most of the things of this phase of the story occurred between close to 50 and 44-45 years ago. I also have no idea if I will be adding on a part 6 for as the story lengthens I see already the need for a part 5. The main inspiration for this comes from my working with Gerim and some of the adjustment processes that they go through. Some of the things look funny to me today some nice and some of my actions then were ignorance or just the maturity level of a 20 to 25-year-old during this period and an older and wiser Rachamim Pauli views things differently today. Even trials and tribulations I write about keeping it modest.

Before I get into looking for the Yeshiva World, I was also looking as a young man into dating and marriage.

I might have been a more or less modest 19-year-old who dated only really the nice type of girls/women that one would want to marry. I had once dated one girl from Poland who was my twin and her parents had a “kosher” restaurant but we went swimming on Shabbos and the restaurant was open on Shabbos which I thought a bit strange for them but not for me at the time. I dated a lovely girl named Marsha R. for months but she and her parents were afraid that I was a Goy! Even when I told them I was Jewish. That is how far gone I was.

Now I don’t know if I was stupid or not but I left Marsha during my own religious upheaval about the age of 20. I was confused about Issur Negia (not to hold hands or touch a maiden and my own hugging, squeezing and kissing of Marsha). My soul was undergoing a revolution and the romance between Marsha and I was caught in between the Torah and my good ole Red Blooded American Boy which was still modest at the time and very naïve on how women felt to men otherwise I might have been less of a gentleman with my knowledge of human behavior today.

So I was at that point a young fellow in conflict between my growing up and trying to be Frum.

What came next was interesting on that front. I began a process in which G-D fearing Christian Girls on a campus of 60% Jewish were interested in dating with me because religiously at the time we both had G-D in mind. It was something that I had never dreamed of. For as a child, I had been bullied and picked on mainly because I was not of their religion and even at 12 a Mary Ann loved me (I had not reached puberty) and wanted to marry me but wanted to “save my soul”. And suddenly as I want to turn Frum I find myself with Christine, Valerie, Julie Ann … it was I figured the Yetzer disguising itself in the form of these girls as the Reform Girls now rejected me and some Conservative Girls liked me but the Orthodox at that point were keeping away from me with a 10-foot pole.

The situation did not improve when I tried to date Frum Gals. For some I was too much of a boor Torah wise. My mother’s Orthodox Classmate tried to set me up at the age of 21 with women my age but they were much more mature than I and it ended in failure basically because they were looking for somebody more established.

The Spring that I was 21 was a new experience to me. I started going on visits to Orthodox Families and also to my local Conservative Schul. There were two 16-year-old girls that would come with their mothers on the side of me. I was like the only fellow over 18 in the Schul except for one saying Kaddish who was a Cohain. I made friends with a younger fellow who wanted to become a Conservative Rabbi. Marsha liked me and Joyce liked me but I felt distracted in my prayers by them and their perfume. The Rabbi had two daughters. Sarah was only 14 and Aviva approaching 18 but she was less religious of the two. Sarah was very-very short but full of Yeras Shemayim. I thought of her but the age gap was too much back then. I heard that as second marriage for one or both of them, she married a former classmate of mine.

I began hanging around the Frum Crowd in the South Cafeteria at my College. David Willig (now Rabbi D. W.) invited me home for a Shabbos. I had met his mother Toby Willig once before and she became the president of Emunah Organization later on. She was a nice guide to me too. He suggested to me to go to the Bostoner Rebbe in Borough Park Brooklyn for a Shabbos. At the same time, I was invited to Chabad Shabbaton for College Students. I was turned off by the couple hosting me as I told my story of the meteor etc. for they said “Only the Rebbe could get such insight from heaven!”

I met this lovely girl Suri R. who was a bit darker than most Jewish girls. I wonder if she was a kidnapped Yemenite girl. She kind of believed in what happened to me but wanted to marry a fellow from Lakewood Yeshiva. (To this day, I have never been to Lakewood, NJ but I did learn under Rabbi Shimon Eider Zal)

The Bostoner Rebbe sent me to Yeshiva Haichal HaTorah which was such a Bracha for me. I will continue with that later. On one hand I really wanted a girl like Suri on the other hand she wanted Lakewood. It never occurred to me to go there after I graduated and get in like Hillel or Rabbi Akiva. Had I tried I would perhaps have never been an engineer or IDF Soldier and been on a level like Rabbi Y. Frand or somebody else in the States. But that was not to be I did not expand enough on my potential.

At the Bostoner Rebbe I was Frum but too much of an Am HaAretz for a Shidduch. No they wanted somebody with Yichus (which I discovered by asking my grandmother) and learning. My Yichus might have put their Yichus in my back pocket or small change purse but my learning was just at the beginning of Mishnayos, Gemara and Halacha. So Shidduch-wise I was sort of up the creek without a paddle.

I was offered some young Frum women. One who had polio who was wheel-chair bound and perhaps I should have accepted the offer at least for one date at that point I thought like Baalei Teshuva were treated as second class. Another was very attractive and a sister of somebody really trying to help me. I met her wheel-chair bound too but had nothing in common with her despite her intelligence. We just did not hit it off in conversation. There was a divorced woman about my age with a daughter who had divorced due to a brutal husband but I did not want at that time second hand Rose* (famous song original from 1921 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxEwMcJ8GXc modern and better quality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCtrcAp3TEY but Kol Isha both.)

A funny and nice incident that had a friend of mine almost rolling on the floor laughing with a bunch of 9-year-old girls sitting on my lap trying to sell me their older sister(s) while I turned colors. This will start off Part 5.

There will be no compromise with the Reform on who is in charge of a Mikvah.

These are the more westernized and modern countries of the “religion of peace”: DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A Dutch woman held in Qatar for nearly three months after telling police she had been raped there was released on Monday after receiving a one-year suspended prison sentence, a Dutch diplomat said.

The 22-year-old woman was in the care of the Dutch Embassy after a brief court hearing in Doha, the Qatari capital which will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Her case has raised new questions ahead of the tournament, which likely will draw tens of thousands of Western tourists unfamiliar with the Islamic-based legal codes that govern the small peninsular nation.

It wasn't immediately clear what sentence was given to the man she accused of rape. Qatari officials repeatedly have declined to comment after her detention became public knowledge over the weekend and the state-run Qatar News Agency did not report on the verdict Monday.

The woman, on a vacation with a friend, went out for drinks at a hotel bar in the Qatari capital in mid-March, lawyer Brian Lokollo previously told The Associated Press.

While at the bar, she believes someone "messed with her drink" and her memory became hazy, Lokollo said. She later awoke alone, her clothes torn and the victim of a rape, he said.

She was immediately detained after reporting the attack, Lokollo said. She previously appeared three times in court, he said.

A social media campaign had called for her release. The AP does not identify victims of sexual assault.

The woman faced an adultery charge for having sex out of wedlock. Her release and sentence were confirmed by Dutch Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Daphne Kerremans. The Dutch Embassy in Doha declined to comment further.

On Twitter, Netherlands Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said he was "relieved" by the verdict.

Lokollo said Monday that the woman's family was "very pleased" she was released and praised the work of Dutch diplomats. He said she also faced a fine equivalent to 750 euros ($845).

"We are very happy she's going to be home soon," he said.

The Dutch woman's case highlights the societal differences in Qatar, home to gleaming skyscrapers and international aspirations that practices a highly conservative form of Islam similar to that of neighboring Saudi Arabia.

Alcohol is available at high-end hotels in Qatar and duty-free shops at its massive international airport. However, residents must have permission from their employers to buy at the country's only government-run liquor store. Sex out of wedlock is illegal.

Similar cases also have occurred elsewhere in the Gulf Arab states.

In 2008, an Australian woman said she was jailed for eight months after reporting that she was gang-raped at a hotel in the United Arab Emirates. In 2013, a Norwegian woman who reported being raped in Dubai received a 16-month sentence for having sex outside of marriage, though she was pardoned and allowed to leave the country.

Yet, Hilary the so called champion for women wants to let hundreds of thousands more of them into America. Hard to believe that Obama's and her supporters can be so stupid.
