Parsha Shemos

In memory of the great and humble Rabbi Glixman

Before we start Sefer Shemos, I suggest that one look at this film it helps people understand how the plagues occurred from a natural standpoint thanks to National Geographic. Remember that a Miracle is going against probability of natural even or series of events happening at the same time. Remember in Gematria that Teva or Nature is the same as ELOKIM so essentially G-D controls and puts HIS essence into nature. I don’t necessarily accept everything that National Geographic says and per-sec flies are not mentioned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sawWSvHjqEE

The twelve brothers pass away at ripe old ages and the Bnei Yisrael is fruitful and multiplies. Then the question arises as it did with me before the Six Day War is there duo-loyalty and if there ever would be a war between Israel and the USA on which side I would be. For me at that time, Israel was a foreign country but still questions arose. Why should it be like this but we are a people that rule by ourselves and the nations for whatever reasons are either jealous or don’t care for us. How is it that over 70 nations come to Paris to try to dictate a solution on Yisrael not only against the will of HASHEM Yisborach but for a “people” that never was and with the help and guidance of HASHEM never ever will be.

1:1 Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; every man came with his household: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin; 4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. …6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. 7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

The brothers that came down to Mitzrayim are gone. Supposedly, the bones of all the brothers were returned to Eretz Yisrael except Yosef. The graves are scattered around the country. Yehuda in Yahud, Dan near the Shimshon Junction and the other brothers all over the land.

8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph. 9 And he said unto his people: 'Behold, the people of the children of Israel are too many and too mighty for us; 10 come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there befalls us any war, they also join themselves unto our enemies, and fight against us, and get them up out of the land.'

As I wrote about my own case before the Six Day War, just as a new Pharaoh was born a few generations have passed and the Bnei Yisrael are loyal and patriotic members of the Mitzrayim Society. They have long forgotten any other land and the promise to return seems far away and they are enjoying their cucumbers, watermelon and other bounties of Egypt. They don’t have to worry about drought as they have the Nile River and the rich land of Goshen. There is plenty for them, the cattle, sheep and camels.

11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Raamses.

At first it started off as National Service and Pharaoh laid the first bricks of the corner-stone of the cities. Then it became a conscripted work force. In the end it became Slavery – based of the Medrash Rabbah.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And they were adread because of the children of Israel. 13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor.

This is the standard anti-Semitism. The richest people in the world today are not Jews but because of a Rothschild, Soros and maybe someone else, the Jews suddenly control the banking and money of the world. It is a “Jewish Conspiracy”. In truth 8 people alive today have the wealth of 3,700,000 of the poorest half of the world and some are Jews but not the richest. http://www.aish.com/ci/s/The-Worlds-Eight-Richest-Men.html?s=show

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field; in all their service, wherein they made them serve with rigor.

It was sufficient that they built the cities but to work with rigor was above the Gezaira from HASHEM. Because of this the 400 years became from the birth of Yitzchak instead of 400 years in Egypt for the rigor made it like 400 years in 210 which was less years of slavery.

15 And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah; 16 and he said: 'When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, ye shall look upon the birthstool: if it be a son, then ye shall kill him; but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.' 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men-children alive. 18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them: 'Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?'

Perhaps you and I don’t understand this micromanagement. But I think I finally got it. Pharaoh was a Pyramid Builder and probably with his architects designed every chamber and lettering to a detail. In fact, he was a stickler for details. I realized this when I heard that Donald Trump besides choosing a cabinet and transition of government approved which type of napkin was used for the inaugural dinner. I then realized that one can be a large manager and get into minor details. In fact, the creation was thought out by HASHEM in every minor detail and perhaps Yosef had explained this to Pharaoh’s predecessor and he emulated in some ways HASHEM. We also see details in the Mishkan which Moshe could not figure out but Betzalel and others were able to through prophecy build.

Without the Medrash, we do not really know what is going on. For if I wanted to remove the Bnei Yisrael from my soil, I would either exile them or being afraid of their numbers murder the women and then there would be no next generation. The Medrash comes and tells us that at the time, there was some astrological event and the advisors and sorcerers of Pharaoh saw that a redeemer would come to Israel but be stopped in his goal by water. Water, yes for he hit the stone instead of talking to it and did not enter Eretz Yisrael. However, they were not prophets. Pharaoh called the three wisest men in the world at his time for advice. Bilaam said that he should murder all male babies, Iyob was quiet and Yisro told him to be nice to the Bnei Yisrael. Because Iyob was politically correct and silent, he ended up being silent when he lost his fortune and his children were killed by heaven and he got diseased. There are times to speak out.

19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh: 'Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwife come unto them.'

They also were politically correct to Pharaoh for the Hebrew for “lively” is like the Hebrew for “animals”. So it sounds like they are belittling the Hebrews and comparing them to animals. Goebbels in his Nazi Propaganda used rats and the Arabs today use pigs and monkeys. Funny, but the Jews called these characters Bnei Adam and they are created in THE IMAGE of G-D!

20 And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that He made them houses. 22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying: 'Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.'

Man proposes, G-D disposes! Pharaoh continues killing thousands of male babies even Egyptians by throwing into the river or by the sword until the ark of bulrushes is taken from the river and it turns to blood. The joke is as Rabbi Glixman would say is that HASHEM has Moshe grow up in of all places, Pharaoh’s court and raised by his daughter.

2:1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2 And the woman conceived, and bore a son; and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

The Medrash says that he was born pre-mature but I offer another possibility that perhaps her pregnancy did not show so that the due date was calculated later so that they would not look for him. Another possibility was that they conducted searches every month or even three months and then it became impossible to hide the baby.

3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river's brink. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

The daughter of Pharaoh is childless and she takes in Moshe even pays Yocheved to nurse “Pharaoh’s grandson”. Moshe grows up and he conquers parts of Africa for Pharaoh according to the Medrash. He sees the suffering of the Hebrews gets involved perhaps because he knows his roots. He kills an Egyptian either physically or by saying THE NAME. Whatever it is worth, despite him hiding the body of the Egyptian, it becomes common knowledge among the Bnei Yisrael and somebody squeals unto Pharaoh and Moshe’s life is in danger.

Moshe flees to Midian and waits by the well for permission to drink. He is dressed as an Egyptian and speaks Egyptian and with an Egyptian accent in other languages. He saves the daughters of Yisro the Cohain of Midian from certain evil designs of Shepherds. Yisro offers him Tzipporah as a wife. Gershon is born.

3:1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the farthest end of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto Horev. 2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said: 'I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.' 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said: 'Moses, Moses.' And he said: 'Here am I.'

Har Sinai had a reputation of being Har HASHEM. Suddenly, Moshe gets called by HASHEM. He is given a mission but does not really want to do it because he stutters. HASHEM gets angry with him for not wanting to go but does give him two miracles. The second of Leprosy because he says that they aka the Bnei Yisrael will not listen to me. I can tell you that one thing that frustrates me is that more often than not, I cannot work to bring closer the Reform and some Conservative Jews as they are children of stiffnecked people and don’t want to hear about changing their ways or returning to minimum Judaism on Kashrus and other things. So even though the Rabbis comment hard upon Moshe at this juncture in our narrative, I claim that Moshe knew who would or wouldn’t be persuaded and how next to impossible it was.

… 7 And the LORD said: 'I have surely seen the affliction of My people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their pains; 8 and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 9 And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel …13 And Moses said unto God: 'Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them: The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me: What is His name? what shall I say unto them?' 14 And God said unto Moses: ‘I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE’. and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I WILL BE has sent me unto you.' … 19 And I know that the king of Egypt will not give you leave to go, except by a mighty hand. 20 And I will put forth My hand, and smite Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in the midst thereof. And after that he will let you go. 21 And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. And it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty; 22 but every woman shall ask of her neighbour, and of her that sojourns in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment; and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.'

This is the prophecy. Moshe is given two signs for the children of Yisrael and he also uses them of Pharaoh who thinks the first is snake charming and the second one some trick of the eye.

…10 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'Oh Lord, I am not a man of words, neither heretofore, nor since Thou hast spoken unto Thy servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.' 11 And the LORD said unto him: 'Who hath made man's mouth? or who makes a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? is it not I the LORD?

The late Yacov Glicksman pointed out to me that Yechezkel was the most eloquent speaker of them all and Moshe could barely talk. The former nobody listened to because they did not deserve him and the later they were ready to be redeemed and they paid close attention to him.

18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said unto him: 'Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren that are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive.' And Jethro said to Moses: 'Go in peace.'

Yacov had bad relations with his father-in-law and fled with almost tragic results. Moshe had good relations with his father-in-law and asked permission and looked for a replacement worker.

19 And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian: 'Go, return into Egypt; for all the men are dead that sought thy life.'

Moshe started his journey without this knowledge but is now assured by HASHEM. So in essence he risks his life on a Kiddush HASHEM until he shows his starting the action and HASHEM helps him by taking these people.

20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

This is the staff or shepherd’s crook that the miracles will be performed through inclining the budding of almond blossoms after the Korach dispute.

21 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'When thou go back into Egypt, see that thou do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in thy hand; but I will harden his heart, and he will not let the people go. 22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh: Thus says the LORD: Israel is My son, My first-born.

Almost every year either I am asked or a friend of mine is asked by a Missionary about “HIS only son”. Here we see that the first-born of HASHEM is Yisrael and not an only son, Yeshu. So please remember this from Parsha Shemos Perek 4.

23 And I have said unto thee: Let My son go, that he may serve Me; and you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will slay thy son, thy first-born.'—

If you harm my first born or prevent him from serving ME, then I will take yours away.

24 And it came to pass on the way at the lodging-place, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him. 25 Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said: 'Surely a bridegroom of blood art thou to me.' 26 So He let him alone. Then she said: 'A bridegroom of blood in regard of the circumcision.'

During the 40 years in the wilderness many males if not all were not circumcised (see Yehoshua 5:2-5) so I can only assume that the Gadol HaDor had to circumcise his child as an example to all and this is why he was punished.

27 And the LORD said to Aaron: 'Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.' And he went, and met him in the mountain of God, and kissed him. 28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD wherewith He had sent him, and all the signs wherewith He had charged him. 29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. 31 And the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had remembered the children of Israel, and that He had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

He was born at the time the redeemer was to have been born, he came out of the desert alive and performed two signs plus brought a NAME.

5:1 And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Let My people go, that they may hold a feast unto Me in the wilderness.' 2 And Pharaoh said: 'Who is the LORD, that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go.' 3 And they said: 'The God of the Hebrews hath met with us. Let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest He fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.' 4 And the king of Egypt said unto them: 'Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, cause the people to break loose from their work? get you unto your burdens.' 5 And Pharaoh said: 'Behold, the people of the land are now many, and will ye make them rest from their burdens?' 6 And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying: 7 'Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

Like many dictators the arrogance eventually destroys them. I have seen this with a number of dictators in the past half a century from Haiti to Romania to Tunisia to name a few. [The best one was when the leader of the Ivory Coast was put on trial for among other things cannibalism, he said, “How can you say that I ate human flesh, I don’t like the taste.”] Fidel Castro was a murderous dictator but he lived humbly and acted like one of the people that he survived from 1959 to 2016. Pharaoh fell into the first category and that was his down fall.

21 and they said unto them: 'The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.' 22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: 'Lord, wherefore hast Thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that Thou hast sent me? 23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast Thou delivered Thy people at all.'

Moshe is doubly upset. He is upset at his own personal failure and furthermore on the stronger affliction unto his people.

6:1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh; for by a strong hand shall he let them go, and by a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.'

Don’t worry, I will redeem you and the people beyond their wildest dreams.

The Secret Jew by Dr. Miller (not Anusim)

The Secret Jew & Incredible Survival of his Lost Manuscript

The amazing story of Luis de Carvajal, a secret Jew who was murdered in the 1500s, and the unlikely survival of his handwritten memoirs. Dr. Yvette Alt Miller

Nearly five hundred years ago, Luis de Rodriguez Carvajal, a secret Jew living in terror of the Spanish Inquisition, penned the following words at great risk to his life: “To practice Judaism is not heresy; it is the will of the Lord our God.”
The Jewish book he secretly wrote has been found and is on display for the first time in decades.
Luis de Rodriguez Carvajal and his family lived in the 1500s in Spain. Judaism had been banned in Spain in 1492 but many Jews, including the Rodriguez family, continued to secretly cling to Jewish faith and rituals, while living publicly as Catholics. The fearsome Spanish Inquisition ruthlessly hunted these secret Jews, torturing and executing anyone suspected of engaging in Jewish rituals.
In in 1580s, Luis de Rodriguez, his mother, father and siblings were invited to settle in the Nuevo Leon, an area in today’s Mexico governed by Luis’ uncle, Don Luis Carvajal. The family moved, and became close to Carvajal, changing their surname from Rodriguez and publicly embracing their powerful relative’s Catholic faith.
In “New Spain”, Luis de Rodriguez, now de Carvajal “the Younger,” continued to keep his Jewish identity as best he could. On Fridays before Shabbat, Luis’ mother and sisters washed the bed linens and prepared festive food, including a chicken dinner for Friday nights. The entire family wore their best clothes on Saturday, and the women of the household refrained from the sewing that customarily kept them busy (though they made sure to keep their sewing handy in case unexpected visitors dropped by).
Before Passover, Luis and other secret Jews in their Mexican community would slaughter a lamb, roast it and eat it, trying to recreate, as Luis described, the first Passover feast: “On foot, like people about to set out on a journey, staves in hands and loins girded”. Their community also secretly celebrated the Jewish holidays Purim and Yom Kippur.
In 1585, Luis and his father, Francisco Rodriguez, who worked as barterers and traders, travelled together to Mexico City for business. There, Francisco became gravely ill. Fearing he might never recover, he told his son Luis all he could about their secret Jewish faith. For a month, he transmitted his knowledge to Luis, preparing him to be the leader of their circle of secret Jews. It was an intense time that profoundly changed the course of Luis’ life.
When he returned home, Luis was more committed to his secret faith than ever. He circumcised himself and began to declare his Jewish beliefs publicly. He also encouraged other secret Jews to do the same. Sometime around 1590, Luis and his family were arrested for encouraging Judaism. His mother, Francisca Nunez de Carvajal, was tortured into near madness. The Inquisition authorities later said that under torture she’d implicated her husband and children as secret Jews.
During this time, Luis began writing his memoirs, titled “Memorias”, in tiny script on miniature pages, about four by three inches. In this secret book, Luis seemed to give his imagination free reign, calling himself by a new name that might have had some secret meaning in his community, Joseph Lumbroso.
The book begins: “Saved from terrible dangers by the Lord, I, Joseph Lumbroso of the Hebrew nation…” and goes on to address itself to all “who believe in the Holy of Holies and who hope for great mercies.”
Memorias” eventually grew to 180 tiny pages penned in an almost impossibly small script. As well as Luis’ memoirs, it included Jewish prayers, the Ten Commandments, and Maimonides’ Thirteen Principles for Faith. Luis painstakingly stitched the book together; its small size implies that it was hidden in a pocket and carried with him.
Luis was briefly released from prison. Some modern scholars think this was so the Inquisition authorities could track his activities. Tragically, in 1596, he was arrested, along with his mother, four sisters, brother and a number of other Jews, and they were tortured. At one point, Luis was shown his manuscript and acknowledged that it was his. He was tortured so severely that he jumped out of a window to escape the agony. Somehow, he survived.
Finally, after weeks of gruesome torture and imprisonment, nine of the Jews were put to death in a mass public burning for the “crime” of being Jewish. The victims included Luis’ mother, his sisters Isabel, Catalina and Leonor, and Luis himself. Luis was 30 years old. (Five years later, another sister, Mariana, was publicly burned at the stake.)
Miraculously, Luis’ secret book somehow survived. Tattered, well-worn, its pages apparently turned over and over by an unknown number of readers through the years, “Memorias” eventually was placed in Mexico’s National Archives, where it remained for hundreds of years, until vanishing in 1932.
No one knows who took it but modern scholars have a theory. At the time, at least three academics were researching the de Carvajal family at the National Archives. One historian accused a rival, a Jewish academic from Northwestern University near Chicago, of stealing the book. The Jewish academic spent approximately three months in jail for the theft but no evidence implicated him in the crime. It’s thought that the academic who accused him was the true thief.
For eight decades, “Memorias” remained lost. Then, in December 2015, it suddenly resurfaced in a London auction house. Bloomsbury Auctions didn’t recognize the book’s importance, blandly describing it in their auction listings as “small devotional manuscripts” and pricing it at $1,500, a small fraction of the work’s actual value.
In response to questioning about the document’s whereabouts, all the auctioneers would reveal is that it came “from the library of a Michigan family...in their possession for several decades.” Timothy Bolton, a specialist at the Bloomsbury Auctions, justified their decision to keep the previous owners’ identities private saying “one of the fundamental cornerstones of the auction world is our client’s privacy.”
Memorias” was bought in London, then promptly listed for sale in New York. There, Leonard Milberg, a prominent 85-year-old New York collector, saw it and recognized its importance. He consulted with experts who agreed that the tiny book was Luis de Carvajal’s, and also cautioned Mr. Milberg that it had been stolen. “It is the earliest surviving personal narrative by a New World Jew...and the earliest surviving worship manuscript and account of coming to the New World,” explains scholar David Szewczyk.
Mr. Milberg got in touch with Diego Gomez Pickering, the Consul General of Mexico in New York, and arranged to repatriate the book, paying tens of thousands of dollars of his own money to acquire the book so that it could be returned to Mexico’s National Archives. He had only two requests. One was that before its repatriation in March, “Memorias” be on view in New York, where it’s currently on display at the New York Historical Society.
Mr. Milberg also asked that digital copies of Luis de Carvajal’s book be made for Princeton University and for Manhattan’s Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue. This, Mr. Milberg explained, is a way of “getting back at anti-Semitism. I wanted to show that Jews were part of the fabric of life in the New World,” he explained. “This book was written before the Pilgrims arrived.”

1917. From Palestine to the Land of Israel. This epic book covers the sweep of events a hundred years ago that led to the advancement after 2000 years of the promise of a National Jewish Home in Palestine. The background is the wartime conflict in Gallipoli and General Allenby's Holy Land campaign. Special tribute is paid to the men of the Australian light horse whose courage and stamina are honoured in this book. The ANZAC soldiers are rightly revered in Australia. Over two hundred will be coming to Israel to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of their remarkable accomplishments in battles throughout the Holy Land. The extraordinary exploits of Palestinian Jews and Christian Zionists are featured in true tales that reveal the human frailties and strengths of heroes. During 2017 commemorations will take place globally marking the centenary of the Balfour Declaration and Allenby's Liberation of Jerusalem. These achievements are celebrated on the cover and in detail in the 320 pages of this book. The reader will meet characters including Richard Meinertzhagen, the Christian Zionist James Bond, Zeev Jabotinsky whose persistence led to the introduction of a Jewish force within the British army, Colonel John Patterson who relived the spirit of the Bible as he led a Jewish force into battle to help liberate the Holy Land from the Ottoman Turks, and the heroine, Sarah Aaaronsohn, who led a Jewish spy ring in a dangerous mission to provide vital intelligence to the British under the noses of the Turkish enemy. This book recounts her painful fate and leaves us with the enigma of Sarah and Lawrence of Arabia who is portrayed in a manner rarely revealed. 1917. From Palestine to the Land of Israel details the heroes and the villains that both forged the way to the creation of Israel but also lit the undercurrent of violent Jew-hating rejection that has plagued the Middle East until today.
