Parsha Vayeitze, stories, swords of iron and other news

Parsha Vayeitze

Last week, Esav threatened to murder Yacov. Yacov is told by Rivka to flee to her family and my Yitzchak to find a Shidduch with his mother’s family. Our Parsha starts as he begins leaving Eretz Yisrael.

28:10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

Yacov was fleeing from Esav. In hot pursuit of Yacov was Eliphaz, the son of Esav.

11 And he lighted upon the place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

It appears to me that the distance between Beer Sheva and Har HaMoriah via Chevron is 70km or 44miles. It is not a bad journey via donkey or camel that was probably the method of transportation of Yacov. The sun set fast either a very short day or like the time I flew from Fort Lauderdale to Eretz Yisrael. The flight left at a little after 10AM, we got lunch at a bit after 12 noon. Since we were passing through or beyond Atlantic Time, it was time for Mincha so I prayed before lunch. I continued then to listen to the Gemara. I turned towards the window a short time after lunch and realized that the sun had set. Going almost 950km or the upper 500miles per hour eastward night was coming in fast. Yacov had a short time to make camp with rocks for protection, probably a fire, prayer and off to sleep.

12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, the LORD stood beside him, and said: 'I am the LORD, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon thou lie, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

The ladder at first showed the exchange between the Angels of Eretz Yisrael and that of Chutz La Aretz (diaspora or ‘outside’ of Yisrael). But then it turned into prophecy of the next three to four thousand years. Almost 250 rungs Yacov’s Angel barely ascended and then close to 950 rungs climbed up going down 70 rungs. Then close to 420 rungs up and close to 1900rungs of climbing of Esav’s Angel. Yishmael’s Angel was also in play but most of the prophetic dream concluded that when Esav was up, Yacov was down and it could be vice versa.

14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. And in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Your religion shall spread far and wide. Your people will be less than .5% of the population of the earth but with about 30% of the Nobel Prizes. When the news goes on almost every day one hears of Israel. Places like China, India, Africa, South America or Russia barely make headlines.

15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee whithersoever thou go, and will bring thee back into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.'

You will be in the diaspora and it is harder to feel the holiness, but know I am in all places from the tiniest part of an atom to a super galaxy cluster.

16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said: 'Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.'

He was so shocked to have been visited in his dream that he awoke.

17 And he was afraid, and said: 'How full of awe is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.'

He was in awe and shock that G-D was in this place.

18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

He arose and declared the place holy.

19 And he called the name of that place Beth-el, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.

“The house of G-D.” is the name of the place.

20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying: 'If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21 so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that Thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto Thee.'

He asks for food and clothing and not even shelter. If he gets this, he makes a pledge of 10% for charity.

29:1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east. 2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, three flocks of sheep lying there by it.--For out of that well they watered the flocks. And the stone upon the well's mouth was great.

What the Pasuk says is a smooth transformation, the Midrash says that Eliphaz attacks Yacov. Yacov could have killed Eliphaz but instead makes a deal. I will spare you and I will give you the jewels that Papa Yitzchak gave me. You will tell your dad that you murdered me and he will stop pursuing me. You will show in the jewels that will become your wealth.

Yacov then goes to the “Torah” Academy of Shem and Ever and was taught creation mysteries and the wisdom of generations. So Yacov arrives at the well. The well is a symbol of Torah and life itself.

3 And thither were all the flocks gathered; and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone back upon the well's mouth in its place.-- 4 And Jacob said unto them: 'My brethren, whence are ye?' And they said: 'Of Haran are we.'

The size of the stone is described and Yacov is on the road to Haran and now the message is clear that he has reached his destination.

5 And he said unto them: 'Know ye Laban the son of Nahor?' And they said: 'We know him.' 6 And he said unto them: 'Is it well with him?' And they said: 'It is well; and, behold, Rachel his daughter comes with the sheep.'

The men understand that he is on his way to Lavan. So that when he sees Rachel they are not upset that he comes and kisses her. Nobody views this as an attack upon her person.

7 And he said: 'Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together; water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.' 8 And they said: 'We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.' 9 While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep; for she tended them. 10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother. 11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

Can anybody imagine a Yeshiva looking student my age coming over and kissing a maiden? Yacov was 63 when the blessing was made and 14years with Shem and Ever, thus 77years old.

12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son; and she ran and told her father.

Rachel has been kissed by this man but realizes that he has come to marry her.

13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

Lavan’s age is not mentioned but the meeting but he met Eliezer 97years previously. He must have been an adult son to speak in place of Nahor. The Midrash says that he gave Yacov a fresh kiss and a hug – pat down to search for jewels.

14 And Laban said to him: 'Surely thou art my bone and my flesh.' And he abode with him the space of a month.

So he hosts Yacov and Yacov helps around the house, garden and with the animals.

15 And Laban said unto Jacob: 'Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?'

Yacov is working for free but Lavan realizes the Shidduch value and open up the conversation this way.

16 Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

The Midrash implies that at this time, he had no sons. So his daughters would inherit everything from him.

17 And Leah's eyes were weak; but Rachel was of beautiful form and fair to look upon.

Weak eyes for she was crying and praying that she would not have to marry Esav.

18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and he said: 'I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.'

He was the younger and she was the younger and they were destined for each other.

19 And Laban said: 'It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man; abide with me.' 20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. 21 And Jacob said unto Laban: 'Give me my wife, for my days are filled, that I may go in unto her.'

Yacov is now 84 years old and wants to become a father.

22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. 23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

Lavan pulled a switch on Yacov and he ends up with Leah and her handmaid.

24 And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid unto his daughter Leah for a handmaid. 25 And it came to pass in the morning that, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban: 'What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?'

In the Talmud this is called a mistaken transaction and the goods can be returned. I paid/worked for Rachel not Leah.

26 And Laban said: 'It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the first-born. 27 Fulfil the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.'

It is before Matan Torah and two sisters are still permitted to marry the same man. So Lavan makes up a lame excuse that Leah is the elder and must be married first. Wait one week only and you will have Rachel after Sheva Brachos but serve me another seven years for her.

28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week; and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife. 29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid. 30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

He is tricked into having to work another seven years and Lavan has married off his daughters.

31 And the LORD saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. 32 And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said: 'Because the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.'

G-D has pity of the ‘despised’ Leah and she says “see I have born a son”.

33 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said: 'Because the LORD hath heard that I am hated, He hath therefore given me this son also.' And she called his name Simeon.

G-D has heard me.

34 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said: 'Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons.' Therefore was his name called Levi.

“I will now get Yacov’s heart (Lev).”

35 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said: 'This time will I praise the LORD.' Therefore she called his name Judah; and she left off bearing.

Yehuda has elements of the oneness of the L-RD in his name.

30:1 And when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and she said unto Jacob: 'Give me children, or else I die.' 2 And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel; and he said: 'Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?'

Yacov has no problem being a father and he is praying for her but does not feel like a miracle worker and he gets angry.

3 And she said: 'Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; that she may bear upon my knees, and I also may be built up through her.' 4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife; and Jacob went in unto her. 5 And Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son. 6 And Rachel said: 'God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son.' Therefore called she his name Dan.

So she becomes a surrogate mother and the Din (law) has swayed in Rachel’s favor and hence Dan.

7 And Bilhah Rachel's handmaid conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son. 8 And Rachel said: 'With mighty wrestling have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed.' And she called his name Naphtali.

I have wrestled with my sister and now have a second surrogate.

9 When Leah saw that she had left off bearing, she took Zilpah her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob to wife. 10 And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bore Jacob a son. 11 And Leah said: 'Fortune is come!' And she called his name Gad.

I am lucky now.

12 And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bore Jacob a second son. 13 And Leah said: 'Happy am I! for the daughters will call me happy.' And she called his name Asher.

I am happy now.

14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah: 'Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.' 15 And she said unto her: 'Is it a small matter that thou hast taken away my husband? and would thou take away my son's mandrakes also?' And Rachel said: 'Therefore he shall lie with thee to-night for thy son's mandrakes.'

Mandrakes are an aphrodisiac.

16 And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said: 'Thou must come in unto me; for I have surely hired thee with my son's mandrakes.' And he lay with her that night.

I hired you for tonight from my sister.

17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18 And Leah said: 'God hath given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband. And she called his name Issachar.

The name comes from wages.

19 And Leah conceived again, and bore a sixth son to Jacob. 20 And Leah said: 'God hath endowed me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons.' And she called his name Zebulun.

I am making a celebratory dinner now.

21 And afterwards she bore a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

I have accepted the Din that she is a daughter.

22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. 23 And she conceived, and bore a son, and said: 'God hath taken away my reproach.' 24 And she called his name Joseph, saying: 'The LORD add to me another son.'

Please add another son.

25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban: 'Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country. 26 Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served thee, and let me go; for thou know my service wherewith I have served thee.'

Yosef was born 14 years after Yacov is with Lavan and is at least 91years old.

27 And Laban said unto him: 'If now I have found favor in thine eyes--I have observed the signs, and the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.' 28 And he said: 'Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.' 29 And he said unto him: 'Thou know how I have served thee, and how thy cattle have fared with me. 30 For it was little which thou had before I came, and it hath increased abundantly; and the LORD hath blessed thee whithersoever I turned. And now when shall I provide for mine own house also?' 31 And he said: 'What shall I give thee?' And Jacob said: 'Thou shalt not give me aught; if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed thy flock and keep it. 32 I will pass through all thy flock to-day, removing from thence every speckled and spotted one, and every dark one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats; and of such shall be my hire.

These shall be my wages.

33 So shall my righteousness witness against me hereafter, when thou shalt come to look over my hire that is before thee: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and dark among the sheep, that if found with me shall be counted stolen.'

Any sheep or goats that do not meet these conditions consider stolen from you.

34 And Laban said: 'Behold, would it might be according to thy word.' 35 And he removed that day the he-goats that were streaked and spotted, and all the she-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the dark ones among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

So the sons of Yacov and his wives took care of his sheep and goats while he watched Lavan’s flocks.

36 And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob. And Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks. 37 And Jacob took him rods of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane-tree; and peeled white streaks in them, making the white appear which was in the rods. …  31:1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying: 'Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this wealth.' 2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as beforetime.

Because of a blessing from Yacov, Lavan now had sons but they were jealous of the fact that their sisters would have such a large inheritance.

3 And the LORD said unto Jacob: 'Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.' 4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock, 5 and said unto them: 'I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as beforetime; but the God of my father hath been with me. 6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father. 7 And your father hath mocked me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me. 8 If he said thus: The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the flock bore speckled; and if he said thus: The streaked shall be thy wages; then bore all the flock streaked. 9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

Even though G-D has spoken to him, it is proper for him to consult with his wives.

10 And it came to pass at the time that the flock conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the he-goats which leaped upon the flock were streaked, speckled, and grizzled. 11 And the angel of God said unto me in the dream: Jacob; and I said: Here am I. 12 And he said: Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the he-goats which leap upon the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled; for I have seen all that Laban does unto thee.

Now the Angel comes to instruct Yacov.

13 I am the God of Beth-el, where thou didst anoint a pillar, where thou didst vow a vow unto Me. Now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy nativity.'

G-D speaks to Yacov directly to return home.

14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him: 'Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house? 15 Are we not accounted by him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath also quite devoured our price.

What does our father take us for?

16 For all the riches which God hath taken away from our father, that is ours and our children's. Now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.'

We deserve a dowry.

17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon the camels; 18 and he carried away all his cattle, and all his substance which he had gathered, the cattle of his getting, which he had gathered in Paddan-aram, to go to Isaac his father unto the land of Canaan.

It is time to get away while the going is good before the sons and Lavan plan to kill him.

19 Now Laban was gone to shear his sheep. And Rachel stole the teraphim that were her father's.

Yacov did not know this.

20 And Jacob outwitted Laban the Aramean, in that he told him not that he fled. 21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the River, and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead. 22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled. 23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and he overtook him in the mountain of Gilead.

Having flocks, a herd and camels with young children; movement forward is limited. He formed a posy with steeds and caught up with Yacov.

24 And God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream of the night, and said unto him: 'Take heed to thyself that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.'

25 And Laban came up with Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain; and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mountain of Gilead.

26 And Laban said to Jacob: 'What hast thou done, that thou hast outwitted me, and carried away my daughters as though captives of the sword? 27 Wherefore didst thou flee secretly, and outwit me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth and with songs, with tabret and with harp;

It took intervention by HASHEM to save Yacov.

28 and didst not suffer me to kiss my sons and my daughters? now hast thou done foolishly. 29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt; but the God of your father spoke unto me yesternight, saying: Take heed to thyself that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad. 30 And now that thou art surely gone, because thou sore longest after thy father's house, wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?'

31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban: 'Because I was afraid; for I said: Lest thou shouldest take thy daughters from me by force.

Yacov has no idea that Rachel has stolen the idols and is about to curse her.

32 With whomsoever thou find thy gods, he shall not live; before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee.'--For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.--

Because of this, she will die in child birth.

33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the tent of the two maid-servants; but he found them not. And he went out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent. 34 Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, and put them in the saddle of the camel, and sat upon them. And Laban felt about all the tent, but found them not. 35 And she said to her father: 'Let not my lord be angry that I cannot rise up before thee; for the manner of women is upon me.' And he searched, but found not the teraphim. 36 And Jacob was wroth, and strove with Laban. And Jacob answered and said to Laban: 'What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast hotly pursued after me? 37 Whereas thou hast felt about all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? Set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us two.

Now Yacov speaks up for the first time in 22years.

38 These twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she-goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flocks have I not eaten. 39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bore the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. 40 Thus I was: in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from mine eyes.

He has just let the load off his shoulders.

41 These twenty years have I been in thy house: I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou hast changed my wages ten times. 42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac, had been on my side, surely now had thou sent me away empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labor of my hands, and gave judgment yesternight.'

If it were not for G-D I would have been without nothing maybe forfeiting my life.

43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob: 'The daughters are my daughters, and the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks, and all that thou see is mine; and what can I do this day for these my daughters, or for their children whom they have borne?

Suddenly, he realizes that that these are his and his daughters and grandchildren.

44 And now come, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.' 45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar. 46 And Jacob said unto his brethren: 'Gather stones'; and they took stones, and made a heap. And they did eat there by the heap.

So the strong forces a covenant on the weak.

47 And Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha; but Jacob called it Galeed.

Pile for attesting witness that nobody will cross this line to harm the other.

48 And Laban said: 'This heap is witness between me and thee this day.' Therefore was the name of it called Galeed; 49 and Mizpah, for he said: 'The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another. 50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, and if thou shalt take wives beside my daughters, no man being with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.'

All of a sudden, Lavan plays the loving father and grandfather. It is hinted that this was not the case for the 22years that Yacov was by him. A false superficial man.

51 And Laban said to Jacob: 'Behold this heap, and behold the pillar, which I have set up betwixt me and thee. 52 This heap be witness, and the pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm. 53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us.' And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

Those stones were in the wall that the donkey of Bilaam pushed his leg against.

54 And Jacob offered a sacrifice in the mountain, and called his brethren to eat bread; and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mountain.

Similar to Avraham and Yitzchak with Avimelech, Yacov is weaker and makes the meal for the peace treaty.

32:1 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them. And Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

I think after the dream and being put into his place, the blessing was sincere.

2 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 3 And Jacob said when he saw them: 'This is God's camp.' And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

Yacov went his way in peace. He also released that never again should or could his family return to Haran to marry somebody of “good stock”.

The election is over who was more fiscally responsible?

The Trump Campaign raised $381,540,000 and spent $345,420,000 the payment to staff was $10,400,000.

The Harris Campaign raised $1,003,000,000 and spent $1,370,000,000 the payment to staff was $582,530,000 which is more than $200,000,000 that the Trump campaign raised. Imagine if Kamala had won? What she would have done with taxpayer’s dollars and the National Debit. I personally prefer Elon Musk and others slicing government spending.

Electronic Warfare the time I rented an electric car. By R. Pauli

The truth behind the green new deal.

I was told by Hertz – you are a gold member choose any car in the Gold lot. I chose a Mercedes small Station Wagon. I could not see a gas gauge but it said 97% so I figured that was good to go. Ha-ha the jokes on me. I went to fill up gas and oops it is electric. Now where to charge it. The charging station was 1.5 blocks from where I was staying but now I need to charge it for a meeting and to return it. Well both my wife and I suffer from elder disabilities. We needed to work as a team to charge the vehicle with her phone and app and I on the phone with somebody with a very thick Indian Accent not like the understandable one of people my age living in Israel who made Aliyah from there.

Finally, the snorkel/nozzle was removed from the charging station and I connected it to my car. Hours were going by. We stopped it an hour before fully charged to purchase food and drink. It was now time to release the electrical snorkel/nozzle. Finally, with the station address and instructions I was told to lock the car 5 times rapidly and open five times rapidly and we were free.

I can just imagine if the charging station was further away and I did not have a walker or trolley to push. I can imagine if I wanted to view a national part and get stuck.

The next day, I drove to my meeting recharged and exchanged the terror to Hertz. With the inconvenience time and charging money similar to price per gallon of regular fuel, I will stick to Rabbi Meir Kahane’s message: NEVER AGAIN!

As for those who own an electric car and stay within a limited driving area and change charge from home: Be wary a new battery costs about $7,000. Based on “Now That’s a Story” by Rabbi Yechiel Spero

A teaser from Art Scroll Publishing

Yacov Vardi was a holocaust survivor from Romania. After the Shoah, he settled on a Kibbutz of HaShomer HaZair, the anti-religious, Kibbutz Movement. What later became associated with MAPAM and now the Democrats.

It is usual for a small child to run fast in one direction, stop and then run in the opposite direction. But an Adult, it is a different story.

As Yacov grew up, he learned to be a Neurologist. He also had an agricultural farm and dabbed in music and poetry when he was not in Shaarei Tzedek Hospital.

Metamorphosis was not expected. But one day on his way to Tel Aviv he saw a sticker on the car in front of him stopped at the light: Who is worried about the coming year will plant wheat. Who is worried about coming years will plant trees.

But the third line made the difference: One who is worried about upcoming generations will educate his children. That line hit him like a sledge hammer.

He had grown up on the Kibbutz and learned agriculture and the first two were natural for him. But what had he done for his children. He only taught them to earn money. Maybe to make a trip and another vacation.

It was then that he made some drastic changes and to find out really what it means to be a Jew. He realized as he dug deeper that he found more ways to grow and learn. Now he and his children are Baalei Teshuva.

How often when we reach middle age we settle-in instead of growing. What a shame!

Next week in the rabbipauli.blogspot, three stories of wounded soldier. One of them was in front of the US Congress. Now a captain in the armor corp. The others soldiers.

This week a meat market from Modiin was mentioned as the man was in the army for 280 days and lost out. I was about thinking of looking up the market but then I notice Bet Shin Resh for Basar or Meat but it was missing the Chaf Shin Resh or Kosher from his sign. Another interview as a Pizza Place that before the war three partners were thinking of expanding from two to four stores. Now with less workers and managers, they downsized to one store.

FROM BSM on Facebook: I caught a little bit of Israeli news today. It just reinforces what I've said all along about Bibi. He's a great orator, but that doesn't qualify him to be Prime Minister. The truth is that he's too weak to do what must be done for an #AbsoluteVictory #ניצחוןמוחלט . The State of Israel is in great danger. Besides Bibi Netanyahu's weakness, he has served too long. Most Israelis can't imagine anyone else in the position. That's also a danger.

The USA did a very wise thing when they changed the law/constitution and began restricting an individual to two terms as president.

Day 427 end of week 60

I woke up one night at 2AM and turned on various news channels. I heard about the war in the Ukraine and Russians using ballistic missiles. 56 people killed in a stampede at a football match in Ghana, Biden visiting Angola and a new virus-plague in Nigeria. Most of the US channels don’t even bother covering this. Fox Business did cover the fall of the value of the Euro.
