Parsha Eikev, Part 8 of my return to Judaism, more

Please pray for the young fellow Shlomo Yosef ben Nofyah Vered

Note: This week I am taking some writings from across the years. I simply had a lot of repairs in my home and other things so I am slightly out of style. Most of the commentary will be before I started my blogspot and a little new here and there. I did manage to continue with my return to Judaism Story.

Parsha Eikev

We are still in the first of three Drashos of Moshe in Devarim. We had the first paragraph of the Shema Prayer last week. This week the second part. The third section on Tzitzis we had in Sefer Bamidbar Chapter 15 at the end of Shelach Lecha. Also more historical background of the prayers for 40 days and 40 nights on Sinai.

7:12 And it shall come to pass, because ye hearken to these ordinances, and keep, and do them, Not such a bad group of conditions now look at the benefits: that the LORD thy God shall keep with thee the covenant and the mercy which He swore unto thy fathers, 13 and He will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee; He will also bless the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy land, thy corn and thy wine and your oil, the increase of thy kine and the young of thy flock, in the land which He swore unto thy fathers to give thee. 14 Thou shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. 15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness; and He will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou know, upon thee, but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. 16 And thou shall consume all the peoples that the LORD thy God shall deliver unto thee; your eye shall not pity them; neither shall thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.

Yes 613 main laws and 15,000 plus sub laws look like a lot but look what we received. The trick is to behave and not compromise on Mitzvos. Skimp on the fats and desserts but not on the doing of Mitzvos.

... 22 And the LORD thy God will cast out those nations before thee by little and little; thou may not consume them quickly, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

The land without people is filled with snakes, scorpions and jackals. On the Golan there are wolves and hyenas. In fact, there was one large member of the cat family near Ein Gedi but the species was doomed to extinction in Israel due to Bedouin.

23 But the LORD thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and shall discomfit them with a great discomfiture, until they be destroyed.

We had the Six Day War and they were willing to leave but our foolish members of the government in power wanted cheap laborers for the Kibbutzim just like Wall Street like cheap illegal immigrants and outsourcing for them to make money.

24 And He shall deliver their kings into thy hand, and thou shalt make their name to perish from under heaven; there shall no man be able to stand against thee, until thou have destroyed them.

This was the original inhabitants from after the flood until Moshe but they are not the non-idol worshipping Arabs.

25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire; thou shalt not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

I asked Rabbi Shlomo Mimran Shlita for a good word on our Pasha and he said this Pasuk. For one might want the gold or the silver here or even to donate the gold or the silver here. Therefore, do not be tempted to make use of this and utterly destroy it.

In my words this is like a fellow who had a friend that robbed a bank. The bank robber stashed the loot in various places. One day, the man found $50,000 or $100,000 buried in a case in his yard. Who would know this? For one the HOLY ONE BLESSED BE HE. However, if the police were to find out, he would be in big trouble and go to jail as an accomplice. Therefore, under the civil law, the man would be obligated to return the money either to the bank or the insurance company. Tehillim: 24:3 Who shall ascend into the mountain of the LORD? and who shall stand in His holy place? 4 He that has clean hands, and a pure heart;

26 And thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, and be accursed like unto it; thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.

No idolatry ornaments or anything ever!

…8:4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

These are only some of the miracles and are being recalled as a reminder to the generation of what the L-RD did and can do. I was an army paramedic and all the time there were foot problems even in airbases as they walk distances.

5 And thou shall consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasten his son, so the LORD thy God chasten thee.

The concept here is Our Father, Our King. If we are like sons have compassion upon us and if we are like servants our eyes are turned unto thee.

6 And thou shall keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways, and to fear Him. 7 For the LORD thy God brings thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths, springing forth in valleys and hills; 8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey; 9 a land wherein thou shall eat bread without scarceness, thou shall not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou may dig brass. 10 And thou shall eat and be satisfied, and bless the LORD thy God for the good land which He hath given thee.

Having picked some figs and grapes from my garden today, I can really relate to this. On the contrary for those who don’t observe Shmita or other Mitzvos:

11 Beware lest thou forget the LORD thy God, in not keeping His commandments, and His ordinances, and His statutes, which I command thee this day;

Then you do not get fruit in the garden and wasps and bees come and steal your produce.

12 lest when thou hast eaten and art satisfied, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; 13 and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;

Anybody ever see a stock market rise to 18600 and then in a few days’ reach 18450 or lower for a time period. Interest rates which one bases his pension plan on stocks and interest and then has no stable income being generated. You should know that your fortune good or bad is in the hands of the L-RD.

…19 And it shall be, if thou shalt forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I forewarn you this day that ye shall surely perish.

This is a pointing warning!

20 As the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so shall ye perish; because ye would not hearken unto the voice of the LORD your God.

… 11:1 Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep His charge, and His statutes, and His ordinances, and His commandments, always. 2 And know ye this day; for I speak not with your children that have not known, and that have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm, 3 and His signs, and His works, which He did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;

Since after Moshe passes on, this generation is to go into the land of Israel. They will fight battles and so to be strong and resolved, they are told this section.

7 but your eyes have seen all the great work of the LORD which He did. 8 Therefore shall ye keep all the commandment which I command thee this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go over to possess it;

Unlike the exodus from Mitzrayim, you are not receiving redemption only because of your forefathers, but you must earn your keep by doing Mitzvos to pay for it.

9 and that ye may prolong your days upon the land, which the LORD swore unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

The first year and first generation will inherit crops and trees.

 10 For the land, whither thou go in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou didst sow thy seed, and didst water it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs; 11 but the land, whither ye go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water as the rain of heaven cometh down; 12 a land which the LORD thy God cares for; the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

If you want this observe the Mitzvos and observe well Shabbos and Yom Tov in all areas.

…23 then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. 24 Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the hinder sea shall be your border. 25 There shall no man be able to stand against you: the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as He hath spoken unto you.

Part 8 of my return to Judaism by Rabbi Rachamim Pauli

I entered Yeshiva on a Wednesday night. My father brought a suitcase in his car and perhaps a few books and my College James Bond case for my last semester. He then drove on to see is mother about two miles away. That would be the last time that I would ever see my father alive. I usually shoveled the snow and felt now that I was in the Yeshiva, my 16-year-old brother would do it. It turned out that he was ill and my father went off only to have a massive heart attack. It was as if he had achieved his highest goal in this world which is to bring a son to a Yeshiva. For you see my father was born to an agnostic break-away Jew. When World War I broke out in Austria at the age of 3 to 7 plus my father was placed by his father in a Catholic Orphanage. My grandfather hated children and preferred this this way. My father got the wrong education at a tender age. He also was beaten-up by Jewish boys for not celebrating our holidays and by the non-Jews for not celebrating theirs. His achievement of bringing a son to a Rabbinical College would assure him a place in the next world. Lest he regret it, he was taken up to the next world where his soul could enjoy this.

One thing that happened just before the end or the school year at Haichal HaTorah was a party for a former student and his wife and son who were going to Israel. Later I would be told to look up Yacov and Bella Glicksman in Ashdod. Little Ariel is the substitute Rosh Kollel when both Rabbi Mimran and I are away today. It is hard to believe that he is almost 48 years old now. He is also a grandfather!

While I was in Haichal HaTorah, I became friendly with one of the Rebbes there named Michael Gurwitz. Actually, his name was from Hurwitz or Horowitz but the Russians pronounce the H as G. He was an infant in 1947 when they escaped Russia. His mother told me the drama in their escape on the train before Shabbos and how she lit the candles but that is for another story.

Michael invited me over to his home for Shabbos. He had a club leg from Polio but otherwise was pretty healthy. His family was very receptive to me not like the other host that I had from Lubavitch. Since it would be summer vacation and the Yeshiva was more or less closed except for a few older fellows he suggested that for the summer I try learning in Hadar HaTorah of Lubavitch. Learning was the name of the game for me and I needed to say Kaddish for my late father so why not be close to a revolving door Minyan as I called it for it was one after the other in 770 Eastern Parkway.

I remember, Rabbi Jacobson Zal teaching the class in Baba Kama Perek 6 about the ox that was penned in and a normal wind would hold the pen in place but a fierce storm wind might knock down the fence. I was 22 years old, without a father, a College Graduate and wanting to make a family of my own. He was more concerned with me learning Gemara which might have been OK if I could find myself in a Kollel. The learning was at a very slow place and on a level below what I was used to. Also there was some Chassidus which did not bother me or Tanya but the Tanya was in the middle of the book. The one good thing that happened was since Gimmel Tammuz was my birthday and Chabad at that time had a get-together for the previous Rebbe was informed that he would be freed soon. So I got a small shot glass of Vodka and drank Le Chaim to the Rebbe. It would be my only talk to and with the Rebbe.

The Yeshiva was perhaps good for somebody who had never learned but having a Talmudic Background for even half-a-year, had placed me in a lower level class that I was on too high a level for the class.

I went back to Haichal HaTorah to spend many Shabbosos in the continuation of the summer and although there was no Yeshiva learned Mishnayos and helped out with Bingo each week. I and even escorted the older Rabbi once on Shabbos to Far Rockaway on his rounds when he made a collection. I learned that he convinced the electric company, Con Ed, not to shut the Yeshiva off as he tried to raise $45,000 in back bills in 1969 dollars.

The next semester, the Roshei Yeshivos decided that I was on an intermediate Gemara Learning Level and put me in the second highest Shuir which they did not have when I entered. The level was good, pace OK but I was disappointed as it did not follow the rule: “Raising in holiness and not lowering.”

I would continue learning until the time I met my wife and we got engaged. Next week I will continue with the marriage, living and working in Borough Park and the night/day Yeshiva there. Rabbi Eider Zal who came from Lakewood, NJ to teach Halachos and the avoidance of being drafted. But G-D laughed at me and I went into the IDF.

Part 9 hopefully will continue next week.

Barry Chamish passes away from a heart attack. He had been telling his readers and his radio program of attempts on his life and harassment that might have brought it on: I can tell you that the day after I sent my first e-mail to Barry Chamish, the Shin Bet started a lookout on me. Days and hours they looked at me. One was a woman, two men and a Chassid following me. Eventually, I must have been clean for they left me alone. HE SHOWED ME THE HOSPITAL REPORT THAT SOMEBODY FROM ICHOLOV HAD GIVEN HIM OF YITZCHAK RABIN. GSW ABDOMEN AKA A GUNSHOT WOULD TO THE STOMACH NOT THE BACK. YIGAL AMIR DID NOT MURDER RABIN. HE MUST HAVE BEEN THE PATSY AND SHOT BLANKS. HE DID NOT SHOW IT TO THE PUBLIC FOR IT WAS ILLEGAL. HE HAD IT IN A SAFE SOMEWHERE. After the various attempts on his life in Israel, his wife Sasha Levy Chamish told him to give up but he continued and she could not take it so they divorced. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/216825
I found an incomplete and very "edited" (bowdlerized is a more precise term) version of his life and his work on Arutz Sheva -http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/216825I knew the man personally, and WHY he fled our land, and WHO THE REAL KILLER OF YITZHAK RABIN, z"l, WAS.

I honestly think it is unlikely that Shim'on Peres, who, according to Barry Chamish,  was the man who arranged the murder of Rabin, z"l,  was instrumental in Chamish's death.  First of all, Chamish had very unhealthy eating habits.  Secondly, he just didn't matter that much here, anymore.  I'll get to that point.  BUT, when I went to the grocery store to buy some bread, this afternoon, the owner of the shop KNEW who he was.  Barry Chamish mattered, and he was a hero in this land - HE DESERVES THAT THE TRUTH BE TOLD ABOUT HIM.
This is the truth, as best as I can tell it.
Barry Chamish, z"l, born in Canada, immigrated here to Israel, served in the IDF, and eventually began to write articles as a journalist in Hebrew and English.  In his early years, when the pickings were slim, he wrote about UFO's - and this haunted him to the day he died.  Even the article in Arutz Sheva (referenced above) mentioned this.  When Rabin was assassinated, Chamish began to investigate what smelled to him like a cover-up - he thought that it was just too "convenient" that the bodyguards for Rabin fell away from him just moments before shots were fired at him.  He thought there were other big holes in the story hustled to the Israeli public as well, and he made a film about this and lectured far and wide in Israel to anyone who would listen.  I got to meet Barry at the Root & Branch English Lecture Program run by Aryeh Gallin, for example.  In his many books, Barry pointed the finger of guilt unequivocally at Shim'on Peres - whom he blamed for a whole series of sins, stretching back to the stealing of the children of Yemeni immigrants in the 1950's.  But, as it turned out, in Chamish's eyes, Peres was only the local puppet.  He also pointed a finger of blame squarely at the Ford Foundation - lampooning them with an ad from the Ford Motor Company: "it always starts with a Ford".
Because the establishment didn't want to hear what he had to say, he was harassed here.  In spite of this, because he was a fluent Hebrew and English speaker, and because he had built up a large network of friends and allies (many of whom were in the IDF), he continued to pursue Peres and write book after book detailing the corruption in the government of Israel, and its institutions.  But it was only in November of 2005, when his activities cost Shimon Peres the top spot in the Labor Party here, that the harassment got serious, and that Chamish got nervous.  He fled Israel for the States, where he lived in Florida.  Chamish was convinced that Peres would try to have him killed for costing him the leadership of the Labor Party (which now limps along under the stale moniker "Zionist Union").
Once Chamish had left here, however, his hand was no longer really on the pulse of events here, and this "hand on the pulse of events" is critical to a journalist uncovering the truth.   Barry's relevance slowly diminished.  He never quit writing.  I have loads of e-mails from him in my inbox (all of them read) - but once he had left Israel, he grew more and more disconnected with events here.  That is why I believe that Shimon Peres did not have a hand in Chamish's death.  Of course, I could be wrong.

US election is hard to predict for just as in 1977 and 1996 the political correct dialog and polls showed Shimon Peres ahead, the Likud won. There are many silent Trump people, Jews moving over but keeping their mouths shut due to leftist community and family pressure. My daughter-in-law does not like Trump so I know for Shalom the main subject is my crown-princess granddaughter. Note: As the election in the States and in the future in Israel approaches I express my opinions, facts and data from others. My intent is the best for Israel. I have a friend whom I have known for well over 60 years and 60 years ago attended his Bar Mitzvah. He is very high up in the Democratic Party and one can be friends. The main goal here is for the production and distribution of words of Torah. My politics is based on what I personally believe is best for Am Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael and to bring the Moshiach. So if you see my political opinions vs. pure news please take this into account for my intent is not to get people angry but to enhance my view of the world. So please skip political opinions if they agitate you.
