Parsha Re'eh, story, news

Without hatred I bring down this week on MeWe.com under the name Rabbi Pauli a 5 minute verbal explanation with Torah and Kabbalah what HASHEM Yisborach thinks about marriage between a man and a woman and why sometimes according the Ari HaKodesh females are born with male souls or the reverse and it is a repair of the soul.

Parsha Re’eh

Last week, we finished the first Mussar and education Drasha of Moshe Rabbaynu. This week we start on the second that was given in one day. However, the blessing and curse we will not see this week. In fact, there will be a lot of Mitzvos given before we get to that in a few weeks from now in chapter 27.

11:26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if ye shall hearken unto the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day; 28 and the curse, if ye shall not hearken unto the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

HASHEM will give you the free will to choose either the blessing or the curse. It is in your power how you will act.

29 And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou go to possess it, that thou shalt set the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Eval.

You will stand there not sometime in the distant future but in less than two months when Yehoshua shall lead the conquest of the land.

30 Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites that dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the terebinths of Moreh?

Today we have the Yeshuv of Alon Moreh on a mountain on the eastern side of the valley that goes from the great sea to the Yarden. On the western side is Har Bracha or Har Gerizim to the north west of Alon Moreh is the excavation of Mizbayach of Yehoshua Bin Nun which is of gigantic proportion of which can be seen up the eastern side of Eval above the valley before all the Am that faced it. Har Eval is barren and stands northeast of Har Gerizim in the valley is Yosef’s tomb and the town of Schem that has now overtaken it from the west.

31 For ye are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein. 32 And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.

Re’eh is one of the Mitzvah rich Parshiyos and the next few weeks we will see new commandments through the Pasukim. To such an extent that I have to skip over many. Re’eh is the largest Sidra in Devarim. It contain 55 Mitzvos of which 17 are positive and 38 negative. Shoftim, Ki Seitzei and Emor have more Mitzvos.

12:1 These are the statutes and the ordinances, which ye shall observe to do in the land which the LORD, the God of thy fathers, hath given thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth. 2 Ye shall surely destroy all the places, wherein the nations that ye are to dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every leafy tree.

This is command 436 and in the next two weeks we come close to having nearly the complete list of Mitzvos

3 And ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods; and ye shall destroy their name out of that place. 4 Ye shall not do so unto the LORD your God. 5 But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put His name there, even unto His habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come;

You shall choose one central place for a gathering of the three Regelim unto HASHEM and it shall not be broken down. [The Mishkan at Shiloh lasted 450 years until the Teva was captured by the Plishtim and when all their idols fell and smashed they sent it back to Melech David. From there he brought it to Yerushalayim and he started to build the Beis HaMikdash as a permanent structure thus ending the days of the operation of the Mishkan. But the Mikdash would only be completed and dedicated by Shlomo, his son.]

6 and thither ye shall bring your burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill-offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock; 7 and there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.

There are a number of Mitzvos in these words and the Teruma and Maaser are to be brought to the Cohanim and Leviim and you should eat your Korbanos in the vicinity of the Mishkan/Mikdash.

8 Ye shall not do after all that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes; 9 for ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the LORD your God gives thee.

Today you are camped around the Mishkan except for the young ones and females of Reuven, Gad and half of Menashe.

10 But when ye go over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your God causeth you to inherit, and He giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety; 11 then it shall come to pass that the place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there, thither shall ye bring all that I command you: your burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD. 12 And ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and the Levite that is within your gates, forasmuch as he hath no portion nor inheritance with you.

Once you enter the land, you shall move in to the central place and eat your sacrifices and sleep there for the festival. Do not forget to give the tithes from your crops or in today’s terms Tzeduka Money.

13 Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt-offerings in every place that thou see; 14 but in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.

The Mizbayach today is in an area between Benyamin and Yehuda and that is where we shall go with the help of HASHEM Yisborach when the Beis HaMikdash is rebuilt hopefully speedily in our days.

15 Notwithstanding thou may slaughter and eat flesh within all thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which He hath given thee; the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart. 16 Only ye shall not eat the blood; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.

While cattle, goats and sheep can be slaughtered and their blood sprinkled on the Mizbayach, wild animals like deer, antelope, moose, etc. when ritually slaughtered must have their blood covered with dust and the same goes for poultry.

17 Thou may not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, or of thine oil, or the firstlings of thy herd or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vow, nor thy freewill-offerings, nor the offering of thy hand; 18 but thou shalt eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite that is within thy gates; and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God in all that thou put thy hand unto.

There will have to be designated areas for roasting and eating Korbanos and sleeping facilities for millions that will visit Yerushalayim in the future and a gigantic Eruv set up. The logistics of the future Korban Pessach and Chagigah and transporting it into designated areas will be tremendous. Transportation and planning will be a key to all this. Even if we only do males 13 or 20 and up with about 14,000,000 total Jews in the world we would have a nightmare in the current structure of Yerushalayim especially when Erev Pessach would be on a Shabbos. We would have to have some Kosher Le Shabbos automation of transportation of the Korbanos from the Mikdash to the designated eating and sleeping areas. That is assuming about 3,500,000 males participating. However, if we were to count the members of the lost Tribes scattered around the world we would have more than 10 times that number. I leave you with this food for thought as in the 2nd Beis HaMikdash there were 600,000 Korbanos with 15 to 50 people on a Korban. I can’t figure out how they did it physically. Our current building in the area and structure make me wonder about the future!

19 Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou live upon thy land.

This appears to apply indirectly to Tzeduka for the Torah Students and members of the Kollelim.

20 When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as He hath promised thee, and thou shalt say: 'I will eat flesh', because thy soul desires to eat flesh; thou may eat flesh, after all the desire of thy soul. 21 If the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to put His name there be too far from thee, then thou shalt slaughter of thy herd and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat within thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul.

Remember that up until now the slaughter was done before the Mishkan aka Ohel Moed in the Midbar. Now a person far away from Yerushalayim in the Negev, northern coast, Galil or Golan could celebrate a Simcha and eat meat close to his home.

22 Howbeit as the gazelle and as the hart is eaten, so thou shalt eat thereof; the unclean and the clean may eat thereof alike. 23 Only be stedfast in not eating the blood; for the blood is the life; and thou shalt not eat the life with the flesh. 24 Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.

With the blood covered as I mentioned. Since the deer, gazelle, etc. had to be captured corralled and held properly for ritual slaughter. I have been up close to the American Bison that walked within a couple inches of my car or a Moose in Alaska. I would like their heads held firm in a feeding trough before attempting to slaughter them. To put it mildly the head of Bison that was larger than my car window and the Moose perhaps double the size of a cow. Even through these two creatures are not part of the landscape of Eretz Yisrael the large DISHON or Water Buffalo is. The laws of ritual slaughter and the covering of the blood apply in Aretz and Chutz LaAretz.

25 Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD.

This is the answer to all the Christian and now Arab blood libels. The prohibition of eating or drinking blood was such that it kept us from being a blood thirsty people. Many Jews are even anemic for various reasons. Today we have iron pills and tonics.

26 Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take, and go unto the place which the LORD shall choose;

Mishkan, Shilo, Yerushalayim during the centuries. Today we only have our local Synagogues but our hearts yearn for Yerushalayim.

27 and thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of the LORD thy God; and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out against the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh. 28 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee forever, when thou do that which is good and right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

Of course every person wants to do right in his/her own eyes but our right is subject sometimes to our hearts and our eyes that we use to go astray. What HASHEM considers right in the Torah and Halacha is the absolute right.

29 When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou go in to dispossess them, and thou dispossess them, and dwell in their land; 30 take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying: 'How used these nations to serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.'

The greatest danger to Am Yisrael is not the sword of Jihad or Inquisition but the enticement of a member of the opposite sex professing his/her love for the person. This included an incident with a Kibbutznik in my earlier days in Israel who told me that if I removed my religious head covering that she would be mine or the Fabian Socialist Jew whom I dated before becoming religious. Enticement to false gods or ideas are always there before us.

31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God; for every abomination to the LORD, which He hates, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

The Nations of Canaan here but it seems after seeing some fanatics of the Jihad or Witnesses etc. it appears that this still occurs but in different ways today.
13:1 All this word which I command you, that shall ye observe to do; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

The Torah with all the Commandments, Ordinances and Statutes were given on Sinai. Most of it is straightforward and clear. We were also given Oral Torah on Sinai for clarification on certain commandments such as the Tephillin, Tzitzis, Kosher Slaughter Techniques and other laws. However, the Torah was not given to be a Chumra of the week for everybody as some “Holier than you” types try to show off. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef of saintly memory had eyeglasses specially made to look down so as not to see women. He set a super-high standard for learning Torah that normal people cannot reach. He did so only for himself and not as a show-off.

2 If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams--and he give thee a sign or a wonder, 3 and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spoke unto thee--saying: 'Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them'; 4 thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God puts you to proof, to know whether ye do love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

We not only are being put to a test but must repudiate such things. This whole section deals with many Mitzvos against idolatry and this one with a prophet or the hand is quicker than the eye trickster to make you see a miracle. I have seen a film of India where an elephant statue drinks milk based on the laws of physics and hydraulics and nothing mystical about it.

5 After the LORD your God shall ye walk, and Him shall ye fear, and His commandments shall ye keep, and unto His voice shall ye hearken, and Him shall ye serve, and unto Him shall ye cleave. 6 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken perversion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

Why is this fool killed? The answer is that it is evil in our midst. I personally feel sorry for transgenders that make themselves either impotent or barren. These people are sick. But when they multiply and the society becomes rotten then they must be removed from the midst of the nation. It is not out of hatred but to save others.

7 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, that is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying: 'Let us go and serve other gods,' which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 8 of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 9 thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him; 10 but thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Can one hate his own flesh and blood? Of course not! But to save society and the Jewish People one must go against his own love and compassion and fortify himself.

11 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to draw thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 12 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee.

And if a whole city of Yisrael becomes corrupted:

… 16 thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. 17 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the broad place thereof, and shall burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, unto the LORD thy God; and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again.
… 14:1 Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. 2 For thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be His own treasure out of all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.
Below are the laws of Kashrus
3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the beasts which ye may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, 5 the hart, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the antelope, and the mountain-sheep. 6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and hath the hoof wholly cloven in two, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that ye may eat. 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that only chew the cud, or of them that only have the hoof cloven: the camel, and the hare, and the rock-badger, because they chew the cud but part not the hoof, they are unclean unto you;

The rock-badger or Hyrax has a parasite disease that recently they have moved from the Dead Sea area towards the Shomron and Modiin causing infections with mosquito bites.

8 and the swine, because he parts the hoof but chews not the cud, he is unclean unto you; of their flesh ye shall not eat, and their carcasses ye shall not touch.
The Torah is repeating this and specifying certain forbidden birds adding on Nevailah and not said Trafe.
21 Ye shall not eat of any thing that dies of itself; thou may give it unto the stranger that is within thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou may sell it unto a foreigner; for thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk.

This is the third and final time we are prohibited to make, eat or enjoy mixtures of milk and meat.

22 Thou shalt surely tithe all the increase of thy seed, that which is brought forth in the field year by year.

Maaser and become richer.

…15:1 At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release. 2 And this is the manner of the release: every creditor shall release that which he hath lent unto his neighbor; he shall not exact it of his neighbor and his brother; because the LORD'S release hath been proclaimed.

The Torah also mentioned the every third year Maaser Ani or poor man’s tithe and now the Shmita release of debit.

… 12 If thy brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, he shall serve thee six years; and in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee. 13 And when thou let him go free from thee, thou shalt not let him go empty;

HASHEM has just introduced the concept of workers compensation. Do you think the modern worker is so much better off than the servant in the Bible. You give him a salary so he can scratch out an apartment with furniture feed a wife and children. What do you think this servant had – he lived in his master’s house and had a wife and children.

14 thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy threshing-floor, and out of thy winepress; of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him. 15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee; therefore I command thee this thing to-day.

If he wants to be with his master, he remains such until the Yovel Year but the Torah frowns upon this.

19 All the firstling males that are born of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God; thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thine ox, nor shear the firstling of thy flock… 16:1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover unto the LORD thy God; for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night …9 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee; from the time the sickle is first put to the standing corn shalt thou begin to number seven weeks. … 13 Thou shalt keep the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in from thy threshing-floor and from thy winepress.

I have not covered everything but at least you received an idea what the Parsha contains.

Rosh Chodesh is Shabbos and Yom Rishon. We start blowing the Shofar and have a month before the day of Judgement on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is 40 days away so time to repent and Atone. In the time of the Temple Maaseh of animals would be given this month. One out of 10 newborns would be dedicated.

The Skelener Rebbe and Scoop Jackson by Rabbi Yerachmiel Tilles

Although Henry "Scoop" Jackson [1912-1983], who served as the senator from the state of Washington for the last thirty years of his life, was not Jewish, his dedication and respect for the Jewish people were remarkable. Rabbi Moshe Londinski, of Seattle, Washington, worked closely with Senator Jackson. He aided him with fundraising and helped to gain community support for the Senator in his political career.
One Sunday afternoon in early June, in the early 1970's, Rabbi Moshe received a phone call from the Gabbai (attendant) of the Skulener Rebbe, Reb Eliezer Zusia Portugal. "I am calling on behalf of the Rebbe," the Gabbai said. "The Rebbe must see Senator Jackson tomorrow at nine in the morning. Can you arrange an appointment?"
Miraculously, Rabbi Moshe was able to arrange a meeting with the busy Senator. The Skulener Rebbe had requested that the Rabbi act as an interpreter between the Rebbe and the Senator, so Reb Moshe took the next plane to Washington, D.C.
The Rebbe arrived with his attendants in Washington, D.C. They met Rabbi Londinski in the outer office, and they entered the inner office of Senator Jackson together. But instead of speaking to the Senator, the Rebbe whispered something to his Gabbai who in turn whispered something to the Rabbi. The latter turned pale. He looked helplessly at Senator Jackson.
"What is the problem?" The Senator asked curiously.
"WelI, ah. .." Rabbi Londinski took a deep breath. "It seems that the Rebbe has not had a chance to complete his morning prayers. He needs a place where he can concentrate. Would he be able to use your office for a little while?"
"Of course, no problem!" said the Senator. The Senator immediately stood up and walked with the Rabbi out of the inner office. The two of them stood in the hall, waiting for the Rebbe to finish.
Twenty minutes went by. By this time, both men were pacing the hall. Rabbi Moshe did not know what to say to the Senator. After all, it was his office! Fortunately, the office door opened just then, and the Rebbe himself beckoned them back inside.
Senator Jackson once again seated himself behind his desk. "Now," he said with a smile. "What can I do for you?"
Rabbi Moshe stood next to the Rebbe, ready to interpret every word. The Rebbe opened his mouth to speak. But after just two short words he burst into tears.
"What is wrong?" the Senator asked in concern. "I do not know," the Rabbi said in bewilderment.
The Rebbe was trying to speak through his tears, but Rabbi Moshe could not understand a single word. He stood, waiting for the crying to stop, but the tears continued to pour down the face of the Rebbe.
Senator Jackson beckoned to the Rabbi. "Tell the Rebbe that I know what he wants!" he said abruptly.
"You do?" Rabbi Moshe exclaimed, startled. "How?"
"Just ask the Rabbi what he wants me to do about it," the Senator told him.
The Rabbi stared at the Senator for a moment, but then he obediently turned to the Rebbe and relayed the statement of the Senator. The Rebbe stopped crying. "I want it stopped immediately," he said firmly, in Yiddish.
Rabbi Londinski translated the Rebbe's words. "How does he want me to stop it?" the Senator asked.
Again the Rabbi relayed the question to the Rebbe. "The Senator knows which buttons to press," the Rebbe replied.
The Senator consulted his address book, then reached for the phone, punched in a number and began to speak. And as Rabbi Londinski listened, the matter slowly became clear to him. A few days before, the Romanian government had arrested twenty Russian Jews who were then in Romania and falsely accused them of currency speculation. They were imprisoned and due to be executed in a few days.
The whole situation was a ploy by the Romanian government to pressure the United States into giving them 'Most Favored Nation' status, which would bring the country great financial gain. The Senator, as the head of the Foreign Relations Committee, was also very involved with Soviet Jewry, and he had heard about this action by the Romanian government. So, he immediately understood what the Rebbe had come for.
The Senator had the Romanian ambassador to the USA on the phone. He said to him slowly and clearly, "As head of the Foreign Relations Committee, I strongly suggest that you immediately call your Prime Minister. Tell him that if those twenty prisoners are not released within forty-eight hours, I guarantee that Romania will never see a cent of American aid. Hair will grow on the palm of their hands before they ever receive the 'Most Favored Nation' status!"
The Senator put the phone down and looked up at Rabbi Londinski. "Tell the Rebbe that it has been taken care of."
The Rebbe smiled and warmly shook the hand of the Senator. Within forty-eight hours, all twenty prisoners had been released and brought to Israel.
Once again, Rabbi Londinski had seen the concern that Senator Jackson had for the Jewish people. He was curious about this, and at an appropriate occasion he finally asked the Senator why he cared so much about the Jews.
Senator Jackson smiled. "Three reasons: One, I was a prosecutor during the Nuremberg trials. I saw how much the Jews had suffered in the concentration camps, and I resolved to do whatever I could to help them.
"Two, my mother, a widow, was a housekeeper for a Jewish family in the town of Everet, Washington. They treated her very well. They even gave her extra food and money during the Depression years to help her raise her family. In her will my mother asked that her children should always be good to the Jews.
"And finally, when I was a young boy, there were a few Jews I would always help out on Saturday. They always treated me nicely."
Senator Jackson did not stop with helping those 20 Jews in Romania. Soon after, he, along with Congressman Charles Vanik of Ohio, introduced an amendment to the trade bill, linking emigration to most favored status. Ultimately, the Jackson-Vanik Amendment of the 1974 Trade Reform Act become law. The implementation of the Jackson-Vanik Amendment made one of the first cracks in the Soviet Iron Curtain.
Later, when Russia suffered a famine, and had to purchase millions of tons of American grain, the Communists were made to allow tens of thousands of Jews to leave the country before the purchase could be agreed to. The doors of freedom had been thrust open and the seeds of freedom began to sprout in Communist Russia.
It is the opinion of many historians that the Jackson-Vanik Amendment significantly contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union, thereby forever changing the course of history!

Biographical note:
Rebbe Eliezer-Zusya Portugal [of blessed memory: 1 Cheshvan 5659 - 29 Av 5742 (1898 - August 1982)], the Skulener Rebbe, immigrated to the USA in 1960, after imprisonment in Rumania and international efforts to secure his release. He was a prominent follower of the Shtefaneshter Rebbe and the author of Noam Eliezer and Kedushas Eliezer, but is best known for his superhuman efforts to rescue Jewish orphans and refugees in Eastern Europe before, during and after WWII and his continuing support of them, and his Chessed L' Avraham network of schools for children that continue until today. Those who merited to be in his presence were astonished by the length of his prayers and the beauty and intensity of the tunes that he composed, many of which have become internationally famous today.
Editor's note:
In the mid-seventies I had the merit and great pleasure to be a sole Shabbat Evening Meal guest of the Skulener Rebbe and his Rebbetzin. Forty-plus years later, I still tremble when I recall the intensity, focus and slow pace with which he recited Kiddush.
Connection: Seasonal-29 Av (Friday, Aug. 10) is the 36th yahrzeit of the Skulener Rebbe.
