Parsha Bo, Some miracles of the Gulf War, Rabbi Winston on Gog and Magog, Baba Sali story, news

Parsha Bo

Last week, Moshe was in low spirits as Pharaoh had given more work to the Bnei Yisrael. When the Parsha ended Pharaoh is slowly but surely coming to the breaking point. The Egyptians are starting to believe in Moshe and manage to some of the flocks, herds and servants from the large size and fiery hail.

10:1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these My signs in the midst of them;

Bo means come. So HASHEM is waiting for Moshe by Pharaoh as he speaks to him.

2 and that thou may tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what I have wrought upon Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am the LORD.'

The whole purpose for the delay in leaving Mitzrayim

3 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him: 'Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before Me? let My people go, that they may serve Me. 4 Else, if thou refuse to let My people go, behold, to-morrow will I bring locusts into thy border; 5 and they shall cover the face of the earth, that one shall not be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remains unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field; 6 and thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither thy fathers nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day.' And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

Moshe and Aaron warn Pharaoh what the next plague will be.

7 And Pharaoh's servants said unto him: 'How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God, knows thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?'

Pharaoh is not limited to political advisors or yes men so he can take whom he wants as an advisor from the best of Egypt. These men speak their minds and they warn him of what they see could cost Egypt two more crop harvests.

8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh; and he said unto them: 'Go, serve the LORD your God; but who are they that shall go?' 9 And Moses said: 'We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds we will go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.' 10 And he said unto them: 'So be the LORD with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones; see ye that evil is before your face. 11 Not so; go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that is what ye desire.' And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

There is no reason for the children to go. This of course is the opposite of Jewish Education “And you shall teach your son on that day saying …”.  Even in the future we shall continue to say, “That HASHEM did this for me” even my newly born great grandson will hopefully live to see his great grandson and say these words. That is Jewish Education. Jews don’t go on popular whims it does not matter if it is Elvis, the Beatles, Mini or Maxi skirts, wide or narrow ties, we will continue to behave modestly and dress modestly within the limits of Torah. I happen to like a lot of things but when I was younger I did not dance mixed dancing even with my wife as it is not the Torah way. One time I stood in the back and was sort of twisting again like I did summers ago before becoming Frum but it is not the Torah way.

12 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.' 13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt; very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. 15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; and there remained not any green thing, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

Once the locusts hit it was too little and too late.

16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said: 'I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.

The ruining of the Egyptian Economy was so bad that Pharaoh admitting sinning and transgressing and asked for forgiveness but that would only be a temporary thing.

17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat the LORD your God, that He may take away from me this death only.' 18 And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD. 19 And the LORD turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt. 20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.

I have the grains that Zaphenath-paneah set up for perpetuity.

21 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.' 22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; 23 they saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

The darkness came out of Gehennom. The first three days it was a darkness thicker than night but the next three days were so think that it became hard to move from one’s place.

24 And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said: 'Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed; let your little ones also go with you.' 25 And Moses said: 'Thou must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt-offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God. 26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither.'

Pharaoh was no dummy. He knew that if the possessions were left behind (as would happen to many Jews in Germany, Syria, Iran, and other countries; the Bnei Yisrael would not leave but return to their accumulated wealth).

27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. 28 And Pharaoh said unto him: 'Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in the day thou see my face thou shalt die.' 29 And Moses said: 'Thou hast spoken well; I will see thy face again no more.'

Meaning after the next plague, you will beg to let us go without any ceremony.

11:1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Yet one plague more will I bring upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence; when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. 2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let them ask every man of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbor, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.' 3 And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.

Pharaoh might be making himself a god and they had a sheep god and a human form bird headed god etc. but deep down they knew HASHEM HU HA ELOKIM!

4 And Moses said: 'Thus says the LORD: About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt;

About and not precise as the astrologers and astronomers were not that precise in their measurements.

5 and all the first-born in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sits upon his throne, even unto the first-born of the maid-servant that is behind the mill; and all the first-born of cattle.

Did they cry out or expire on the spot it is not written.

6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there hath been none like it, nor shall be like it any more.

There must have been some that thought the child was their second or third only to find out that their lovely spouse had produced other children with other people.

7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog whet his tongue, against man or beast; that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

As a prize for not barking, the dogs shall be given Nevaillah meat.

8 And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down unto me, saying: Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee; and after that I will go out.' And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.

About midnight as the astronomers of Pharaoh could make a small mistake and you will lose as I previously foretold your first born son.

9 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Pharaoh will not hearken unto you; that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.' 10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

All this is for a Kiddush HASHEM.

12:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying: 2 'This month shall be unto you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.

HASHEM showed to Moshe the new moon and taught him and Aaron the calculation of the Calendar and Leap Months.

3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying: In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household; 4 and if the household be too little for a lamb, then shall he and his neighbor next unto his house take one according to the number of the souls; according to every man's eating ye shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year; ye shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats;

Lamb of the first year but it could be a young Billy Goat. It had to have the outward appearance of being perfect.

6 and ye shall keep it unto the fourteenth day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at dusk. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and put it on the two side-posts and on the lintel, upon the houses wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; its head with its legs and with the inwards thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; but that which remain of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

Combine this with not seeing or finding Chametz in one’s domain and you basically have all the laws of Pesach in one paragraph. A bit smaller than the Shulchan Aruch and the Haggadah is not mentioned either or what we tell our son(s) ‘on that day’.

11 And thus shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste--it is the LORD'S Passover.

Passing over your houses and the Bechor of each Ben Yisrael Family but smiting the Egyptians.

12 For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.

Each and every idol shall fall.

13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

I will see the blood on the lintels aka Mezuzah place on your doors and pass over you.

14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.

The day will be a memorial but not the blood on the door posts.

15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; howbeit the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses; for whosoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

Kares of the Neshama in the next world if willfully.

16 And in the first day there shall be to you a holy convocation, and in the seventh day a holy convocation; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you.

If you are Tahor or the whole nation Tumay then the Korban goes according the majority and one must eat a minimum of the bulk of an average olive and that is small in Yisrael.

17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore, shall y e observe this day throughout your generations by an ordinance forever. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

One would be most foolish to violate this command.

19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses; for whosoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a sojourner, or one that is born in the land.

The Pasuk is clear about eating leavening during Pesach and getting Kares. Because we were sojourners so too Gerei Tzeddek must observe Pesach aka Ivanka Kushner. But Gerei Toshav who take on the 7 Mitzvos of Noach are not required.

20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.'

A strengthening repetition of not eating leavening.

21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them: 'Draw out, and take you lambs according to your families, and slaughter the Pascal lamb. 22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side-posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. 23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

The blood on the lintel was only for Mitzrayim. However, the rest of the observance was to be for every future generation.

24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons forever. 25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as He hath promised, that ye shall keep this service. 26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you: What mean ye by this service?

Since we don’t have a Korban Pesach without a Mikdash, we point to the Zeroa (lamb or chicken leg roasted on the Seder Plate) When we recite “Pesach, Matzo and Maror”.

27 that ye shall say: It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S Passover, for that He passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.' And the people bowed the head and worshipped. 28 And the children of Israel went and did so; as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

Those that survived the deaths during the plague of darkness, observed for they were ready to be redeemed.

29 And it came to pass at midnight, that the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle. 30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. 31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night and said: 'Rise up, get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said. 32 Take both your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.' 33 And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, to send them out of the land in haste; for they said: 'We are all dead men.'

The Bnei Yisrael were literally kicked out of Egypt for Pharaoh was so upset at the death of his first born that he wanted nothing to do with them (for the time being).

34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. 35 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment. 36 And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And they despoiled the Egyptians.

So they were thrown out of Egypt 400 years to day of the birth of Yitzchak.

37 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, beside children. 38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

Mixed multitude were mixed marriages and perhaps other slaves that joined with the Bnei Yisrael yearning to be free.

39 And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual. 40 Now the time that the children of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. 41 And it came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the host of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

430 years after the Bris between the parts of Avraham Avinu when he got the prophecy of the slavery that was to the date of the birth of Yitzchak 30 years earlier.

42 It was a night of watching unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt; this same night is a night of watching unto the LORD for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.

Many families finish the Pesach meal around midnight others in the wee hours of the morning and some very close to sunrise.

43 And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron: 'This is the ordinance of the Passover: there shall no alien eat thereof; 44 but every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.

Even the non-Jewish slave that is purchased and circumcised and dunked in a Mitzvah for conversion upon release.

45 A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat thereof. 46 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth aught of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. 47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. 48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.

A non-circumcised person deserves the death penalty if he eats from the Korban.

49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourns among you.' 50 Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

Today we have something like 87% observance. Back then the observance was 100% and willingly.

51 And it came to pass the selfsame day that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

13:1 1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 2 'Sanctify unto Me all the first-born, whatsoever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast, it is Mine.'

From a cow, goat, sheep, donkey or horse. Generally, today we have the fiction of a Cohain being part owner of the pregnant beast for it is impossible without the Temple to have a Korban Bechor. Donkeys are redeemed with a sheep.

3 And Moses said unto the people: 'Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place; there shall no leavened bread be eaten.

Do not forget this and it is as if you went out on this day with your family for every generation.

4 This day ye go forth in the month Abib. 5 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which He swore unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month. 6 Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD.

It is a positive command to eat Matzos. However, if you eat fish, meat, fruit, vegetables that are without leaven you are also observing these seven days.

7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee, in all thy borders.

Not only that you should not find the leaven in your borders but neither shall you see it.

8 And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying: It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came forth out of Egypt.

9 And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thy hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in thy mouth; for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. 10 Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.

The first full moon after the spring equinox shall be Pesach throughout all generations.

11 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanite, as He swore unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, 12 that thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that opens the womb; every firstling that is a male, which thou hast coming of a beast, shall be the LORD'S.

Kosher animals shall go to the Cohain and for a donkey, the donkey shall be redeemed.

13 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break its neck; and all the first-born of man among thy sons shalt thou redeem. 14 And it shall be when thy son asks thee in time to come, saying: What is this? that thou shalt say unto him: By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage;

This passage is read not only in the Torah Reading of Bo each year and it appears annually in the Haggadah.

15 and it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast; therefore, I sacrifice to the LORD all that opens the womb, being males; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem.

This unbroken chain shall go from generation to generation. [Sometimes there are members of the family that leave the tradition. One great uncle left and both his children did not produce offspring. My grandfather left confounding my father, but both my brother and I observe Pesach.

16 And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes; for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.'

That is why the redemption of the first born is written in the Tephillin.

Some Miracles of the Gulf War

To think back 30 years have passed. I remember getting up to the army beep before the code “Poisonous Snake” and then the siren. It shot adrenaline into my heart and it was pounding sometimes I needed to relieve myself before heading down to the shelter we had three to five minutes which was ample time.

My son had just come home from patrolling Gaza and wanted to sleep and I spent the time arguing with him to come to the shelter as he got up the sonic booms hit. He had watch from Gaza as the Arabs cheered.

I guess the biggest miracles happened on the first day so I will write about them first.

1)    In south Tel Aviv most of the people don’t have shelters. One of the places they ran to was Beit Danny. Beit Danny had a shelter to the right of it and to the left of it. If I recall the one on the left was locked so the people had to crowd into the one on the right. Of all the places that Scud hit, it was the left side of Beit Danny. Had there been anybody in that shelter they would have died as the it was a direct hit of 250kgs of cement and explosives.

2)    At Pe Gililot was a major natural gas supply tank for all Gush Dan if it went 10,000 people or more would go with it. Also there were 4 Gasoline or Kerosene giant tanks. The night before the Gulf War I, it was discovered that one of the connecting pipes had a leak. Waiting for the next morning the flow between tanks were cut off. That night Saddam’s henchmen planned that the Scud would fall in the middle of the tanks meaning that if it hit to the north, south, east or west of the center, one tank would blow and the rest with it causes deaths and destruction. Well the Scud from 400 miles away was precisely on target in the center and the cement holding the tanks saved Gush Dan from major destruction and death.

3)    In Haifa or the vicinity, a new mall was planned. Bull’s eye in the middle of the unopened mall.

4)    Near the main department store on Rehov Allenby opposite the great Synagogue a Scud fell. It missed the Department Store by maybe 10 or 20 meters and landed in a Jewish Book Store. The day before the war, people were preparing and not shopping for holy books. The owner had time on his hand and opened up the Tanach. The army photographed the Scud that fell and did not explode for dismantling purposes. The center of the unexploded nose cone had landed precisely on the Tanach without any other damage but through roof of the building and ceiling from the floor above. A three story unexploded rocket.

5)    Ramat Gan was one of the main target area because of the headquarters of the IDF being there. One woman said that she had a bad feeling about Shabbos and the family was on the top floor. She was so upset that her husband agreed with her to spend the Shabbos Dinner at a friend’s house a few blocks away and a few stories down. The rocket had her dining room address on it, I guess as that is where it hit on Shabbos. Motzei Shabbos all of Israel saw the family on TV light the Havdalah Candle, wine and spice in the blasted out apartment where they planned to rebuild starting in the morning.

6)    Nearby me, is the Arab Village of Kibia. The Arabs were on their roof shouting Saddam Hussein the close friend come and give it to Tel Aviv. Perhaps a few Allah Hu Achbars when the rockets flew by. However, this particular day the rocket fell in or around Kibia. Some suffered broken legs jumping off rooves. Shrapnel landed 3km away on Moshav Mattityahu. The door to my shelter rattled from the explosion. After that the wise guys in my Yeshuv watching the rockets, went into their shelters.

7)    At first we slept with our youngest in the room that was gas proof but later released that the weapons were conventional and went straight down to our shelter for safety. We put on an old TV and watched what was going on. We had a special Shabbos and night radio station that we listened to for instructions. At work a woman from Ashdod decided to move in with her co-worker from Ramat Gan. As far as I know they married and must be soon celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. Like 9 months or so after the Yom Kippur War about the same thing happened after the Gulf War. Some days I was awoken by the siren and had a hard day at work, at 6PM I would nap on a mattress in the shelter.

8)    One boy and his dog was in a shelter in Ramat Gan and a Scud hit blocking off the main entrance, but he and his dog were pulled out of the shelter window.

There was perhaps a reverse miracle that the hand of G-D was present:

The Story of Aytan G.

Aytan had grown up in a religious neighborhood and went to a religious High School in a mixed class and married a girl from his class. Over the years he became disillusioned with Torah Judaism and developed a hatred for religion especially Charedim.

Aytan was seen going up and down Rehov HaShomer known today as Rehov Kanerman on a very loud motorcycle. At that time, the people of Bnei Barak turned to the Steipler Ruv. The Ruv told them to ignore him and eventually he would stop wasting his time and that he would in the end die of Skilla. (Stoning)

A few weeks before the Gulf War, a Boar’s Head was found in the Great Synagogue of Bnei Brak. It was rumored that Aytan was behind this deed.

Over 30 Scud had fallen. Aytan was talking to his wife on the phone. He ended the conversation as the siren went off. He was heading towards his shelter and safety. Boom the Scud hit his house. The heavy door to the shelter fell upon him giving him Skilla on the spot. He was the only victim of a direct hit by a Scud. 3 people died of heart attacks and one elderly woman did not remove the plastic seal on the gas mask causing her to suffocate to death. G-D works in strange ways. Aytan’s wife and family did not see the correspondence between his actions and his death. I can only report what I know based on information I gathered from one of his old High School classmates, who is more like a traditional Conservative Jew who attends Schul weekly on Shabbos but not what we call in Israel Dati. They were the only two in the class who did not remain fully Dati.

Ed-Op Rabbi Pinchas Winston Shlita thanks to Sophia

https://www.israel365news.com/163837/big-tech-censorship-part-of-war-of-gog-and-magog-says-rabbi/

Rabbi Pinchas Winston, a prolific end-of-days author, noted that this process of adhering to one side of an issue absolutely has its roots in the Bible.

“This is how Pharaoh went about hardening his heart,” Rabbi Winston said. “Pharaoh’s heart had to be hard enough to be able to deny the existence of God.”

“Control of the media is how the liberals control the masses,” Rabbi Winston said. “That is an aspect of Pharaoh denying God. Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, are arrogant, seeing themselves in precisely the way Pharaoh saw himself; standing in the place of God, the source of truth and knowledge. They believe they are doing the best thing possible for society so they allow themselves to take away the freedom of thought. Unfortunately, any of the justice these people sought is now buried under a desire for vengeance and twisted by arrogance. They do not believe in true and false or even right and wrong. They only believe in themselves.”

“But they have taken God out of the picture and see themselves as the ultimate arbiter of good. So their message is trying to convince people that there is no God, trying to take away their God-given free will by controlling their thoughts.”

“Since it is an anti-God agenda, this is one of the aspects of the War of Gog and Magog, which is a war against God,” Rabbi Winston said. “This is the end of the United States as we knew it. It may come through this but it will change drastically. But going against God has always ended in failure. Hashem is in charge of the world and the end is clear. The problem is that these people can do a lot of damage in the meantime.”

Milestone. Mr. Nathan Appelbaum aka Nuta Tzvi ben Benzion Moshe in his mid-90’s.

He fought in WWII was not that religious. After the war took the GI Bill to learn classes at the Young Israel and became very strong in his beliefs. In one of these classes he met his wife. They married and had one girl and five boys that became Rabbis. He had the ability to inspire me on learning systematically after work. He used to go through Chuk Le Yisrael on the Chumash and Parsha with other learning weekly. One a Tetragrammaton Witness came to him as a Missionary and warned him that “He better be prepared for the afterlife”. Nathan replied, “You better be prepared for trying to missionize Jews.” He was one of the people that I really missed when I made Aliyah.
