Parsha Shelach Lecha
This week we start out with the L-RD saying to Moshe to send out men to check out the land for two reasons. First for a road map for conquests. They should be leaders or princes that will help move the army into the land.
Princes in the desert afraid to become ordinary men if they conquer the land and everybody is busy with his farm according to the Sages.
These men still have a slave mentality from Egypt and are afraid to fight. I understand all to well. I grew up almost as the only Jew on a basically Irish Catholic Block. There were kids a year older than I and they basically boycotted me or on a whim bullied me. One against many with a father who fled the Nazis trying to hide his Jewish Identity did not make me the boldest and bravest kid. It was not until the Jewish Defense League in the US showed me not to run, fearing the L-RD and not man that eventually led to me being able to be on the front line in the IDF. Calev went to the Machpelah for merits to be strong and brave from his/our fathers. Hoshea or Yehoshua was with Moshe and surrounded by miracles and the Shechina. As for the rest, they had a lot of political rhetoric but little amount of Torah and Mitzvos engrained in them.
Yes, they saw the fortified cities and the giant men. Shaul was over six feet and Dovid about five foot two inches at best. Shaul and his soldiers feared a man who was about nine feet tall. Dovid had fought off lions, wolves perhaps bear that wanted to devour his sheep. The simple shepherd had pure and simple fear and trust in HASHEM.
Up against a nine-foot-tall strong warrior, the average soldier was fearful. Dovid saw the uncircumcised one as no better than the beasts that he had killed protecting his flock. He was willing to be the shepherd for the flock of Yisrael.
Gaolyard looked at the red-hair youth and thought that he would teach the Israelis a lesson and abuse him. Dovid put his faith and trust in HASHEM. The result is the stone from the sling knocking out the giant and Dovid with two hands lifting up the giant’s sword and slaying him. A massive rout ensued.
This would have happened if the spies had followed the examples of Calev and Joshua but no they put politics and pride before the fear of the L-RD. This time, G-D would not forgive as in the past for their lack of trust and weak faith required a different and free-thinking nation to replace them.
Below you will see the spies feeling like grasshoppers in their own eyes and not like an army backed by HASHEM Yisborach.
13:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 2 'Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, everyone a prince among them.' 3 And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of the LORD; all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel. … 6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Yephunneh. … 8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun. … And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua. 17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them: 'Get you up here into the South, and go up into the mountains; 18 and see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many; 19 and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds; 20 and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land.'--Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.
I am uncertain what went wrong here? Did they lack the secrecy to report only to the head of the army and not become reporters or bloggers? They were asked by Moshe and should have reported back directly to Moshe and not to the Nation.
21 So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, at the entrance to Hamath.
From Nahal Zin which is slightly north of the Kadesh Barnea border with Egypt. I suggest googling a road map of Kadesh Barnea to Beer Sheva or at least to Sde Boker on the border of Zin. From there they traveled to Hamath in Northern Syria a bit south of the Euphrates River.
22 And they went up into the South, and came unto Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there.
Three giants leading various Canaanite City States.
--Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.-- 23 And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it upon a pole between two; they took also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.-- 24 That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from thence.-- 25 And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days. 26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 And they told him, and said: 'We came unto the land whither thou sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
Before dropping the bomb of fear, they make the land look good.
28 Howbeit the people that dwell in the land are fierce, and the cities are fortified, and very great; and moreover, we saw the children of Anak there. 29 Amalek dwell in the land of the South; and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanite dwelleth by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.'
The mistake was to issue the report in public before women and children instead of private in from of Moshe and Aaron. These were younger men who thought that their generation should have a chance to lead instead of Moshe and the Elders – my words but the idea came from Rabbi Yosef Ben Porat Shlita.
30 And Caleb stilled the people toward Moses, and said: 'We should go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.'
HASHEM will fight your enemies and save you. *Prisoners of war from the 6 Day War mentioned men in white garments with flowing white beards that caused them to run without their shoes. I heard from Zvi Drapkin Shlita that during the Yom Kippur War the prisoners claimed the same thing and they kept shooting at these men and they kept coming.
31 But the men that went up with him said: 'We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.'
The two things that hold you back is your position of leadership in the desert and afraid of losing your status and scared of a battle.
32 And they spread an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying: 'The land, through which we have passed to spy it out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
G-D caused the inhabitants to lose leaders to be in mourning and ignoring 12 strangers in their midst.
33 And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
IN OUR OWN SIGHT but not their sight we were like grasshoppers.
14:1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole congregation said unto them: 'Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would we had died in this wilderness! 3 And wherefore doth the LORD bring us unto this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey; were it not better for us to return into Egypt?' 4 And they said one to another: 'Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.'
They are making a revolution in order to return to slavery. They are therefore fighting HASHEM who brought them out of Mitzrayim to be HIS people.
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Yephunneh, who were of them that spied out the land, rent their clothes. 7 And they spoke unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: 'The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land. 8 If the LORD delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it unto us--a land which flows with milk and honey. 9 Only rebel not against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us; their defence is removed from over them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.'
The L-RD of armies is with us a Tabernacle of Yacov Selah! The L-RD of armies, happy are those who trust in you. The L-RD is our salvation our KING on the day we call.
10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones, when the glory of the LORD appeared in the tent of meeting unto all the children of Israel.
What are you thinking? You want to stone my precious jewels/servants! I will take care of those who dare to rebel against me. I will love those who love me and hate those who hate me.
11 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'How long will this people despise Me? and how long will they not believe in Me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them? 12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and destroy them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.'
I will completely decimate these rebels that hate me.
13 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'When the Egyptians shall hear--for Thou brought up this people in Thy might from among them-- 14 they will say to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that Thou LORD art in the midst of this people; inasmuch as Thou LORD art seen face to face, and Thy cloud stand over them, and Thou go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night; 15 now if Thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of Thee will speak, saying: 16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which He swore unto them, therefore He hath slain them in the wilderness.
If you kill them all you will make a Chillul HASHEM among the nations.
17 And now, I pray Thee, let the power of the LORD be great, according as Thou hast spoken, saying: 18 The LORD is slow to anger, and plenteous in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.
Let only the rebels die and may their families repent so that in a few generations, the people will be worthy.
19 Pardon, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, and according as Thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.' 20 And the LORD said: 'I have pardoned according to thy word.
I have forgiven the future generations.
21 But in very deed, as I live--and all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD-- 22 surely all those men that have seen My glory, and My signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have put Me to proof these ten times, and have not hearkened to My voice; 23 surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised Me see it. 24 But My servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed Me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
Not only shall he live and enter the land and enjoy the fruits thereof.
25 Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the Vale; tomorrow turn ye, and get you into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.' 26 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying: 27 'How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that keep murmuring against Me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they keep murmuring against Me. 28 Say unto them: As I live, saith the LORD, surely as ye have spoken in Mine ears, so will I do to you: 29 your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, ye that have murmured against Me;
Even if you are alive today and I did not kill you on the night of Tisha B’Av with the ten spies, your carcasses will lie in the desert. Since 1000years in the sight of the L-RD is like yesterday aka I see in the future and you are rotting carcasses.
30 surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I lifted up My hand that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Yephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
These men who put ME and MY WORD before their own selves, they shall enter the land and their leadership will not be diminished but expand.
31 But your little ones, that ye said would be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have rejected. 32 But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your straying, until your carcasses be consumed in the wilderness. 34 After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know My displeasure.
You were afraid because of your young children. They shall see the land but not you. You will die over the next 39years and only in the 40th year shall your children enter the land.
35 I the LORD have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against Me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.' 36 And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and who, when they returned, made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land, 37 even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD. 38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Yephunneh, remained alive of those men that went to spy out the land. 39 And Moses told these words unto all the children of Israel; and the people mourned greatly. 40 And they rose up early in the morning, and got them up to the top of the mountain, saying: 'Lo, we are here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised; for we have sinned.'
The men who realized their sins. They wanted to repent. But instead of trying to supplicate the L-RD over the next 40years, they rebelled by trying to conquer the land without permission from the L-RD. They became the dry bones Yechezkel saw.
41 And Moses said: 'Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD, seeing it shall not prosper? 42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies. 43 For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; forasmuch as ye are turned back from following the LORD, and the LORD will not be with you.' 44 But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain; nevertheless, the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
Still HASHEM remained in the camp and there is a Medrash that on the last Tisha B’Av there were 15,000 repentant people with pure hearts that did not die that day.
45 Then the Amalekite and the Canaanite, who dwelt in that hill-country, came down, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah.
Without G-D backing their army, the laws of nature took place and a well trained army full of antisemitism and hate defeated the former slaves. Note nature and ELOKIM are the same in Gematria 86 and we learn from this who guides and controls nature.
15:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: When ye are come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you, 3 and will make an offering by fire unto the LORD, a burnt-offering, or a sacrifice, in fulfilment of a vow clearly uttered, or as a freewill-offering, or in your appointed seasons, to make a sweet savor unto the LORD, of the herd, or of the flock; 4 then shall he that bringeth his offering present unto the LORD a meal-offering of a tenth part of an ephah of fine flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of oil; 5 and wine for the drink-offering, the fourth part of a hin, shalt thou prepare with the burnt-offering or for the sacrifice, for each lamb. 6 Or for a ram, thou shalt prepare for a meal-offering two tenth parts of an ephah of fine flour mingled with the third part of a hin of oil; 7 and for the drink-offering thou shalt present the third part of a hin of wine, of a sweet savor unto the LORD. 8 And when thou preparest a bullock for a burnt-offering, or for a sacrifice, in fulfilment of a vow clearly uttered, or for peace-offerings unto the LORD; ...
It is time to put the spies behind us and get back to being observant Bnei Yisrael.
21 Of the first of your dough ye shall give unto the LORD a portion for a gift throughout your generations. 22 And when ye shall err, and not observe all these commandments, which the LORD hath spoken unto Moses, 23 even all that the LORD hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the LORD gave commandment, and onward throughout your generations; 24 then it shall be, if it be done in error by the congregation, it being hid from their eyes, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt-offering, for a sweet savor unto the LORD--with the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof, according to the ordinance--and one he-goat for a sin-offering. 25 And the priest shall make atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and they shall be forgiven; for it was an error, and they have brought their offering, an offering made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin-offering before the LORD, for their error. 26 And all the congregation of the children of Israel shall be forgiven, and the stranger that sojourns among them; for in respect of all the people it was done in error. 27 And if one person sin through error, then he shall offer a she-goat of the first year for a sin-offering. 28 And the priest shall make atonement for the soul that err, when he sinned through error, before the LORD, to make atonement for him; and he shall be forgiven,
The L-RD is opening up the gates of repentance for this generation of 600,000 but only 15,000 will repent.
29 both he that is home-born among the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them: ye shall have one law for him that doeth aught in error. 30 But the soul that doeth aught with a high hand, whether he be home-born or a stranger, the same blasphemed the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken His commandment; that soul shall utterly be cut off, his iniquity shall be upon him. 32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks upon the sabbath day. 33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. 34 And they put him in ward, because it had not been declared what should be done to him. 35 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'The man shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.' 36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died, as the LORD commanded Moses. 37 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
The punishment of a Beis Din works if there are one or two people who sin. Meaning: Watch out, beware! Perhaps even as much as 80 violators in the Congregation. But when the number of Shabbos violators become the majority or homosexuality becomes three to five percent of the population there will be like the rebels in the desert too many that will come against Beis Din and bring even a worse punishment on Am Yisrael like above. At this point, we let HASHEM deal with the violators of Shabbos who did so out of ignorance for they were born into families like that and perhaps they will receive mercy. Once Homosexuality is paraded in large cities and in the States, there is WOKE propaganda of the Satan, it is beyond the Beis Din to stop the plague. It is up to HASHEM or education and repentance.
38 'Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of blue.
We are uncertain of the Techeles for the Tzitzis as we have lost the tradition. There is a school of thought who thinks they have found the Techeles dye based on chemical analysis of old cloth but without tradition, the coming of Eliyahu HaNovi or Moshiach, the vast majority does not wear blue threads.
39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye go not about after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go astray;
In the Talmud there is a story of a man who brought a fortune of money for the most famous prostitute of her day. He sees the Tzitzis and does not do with her what he paid for. She sells all her possessions gives it to charity, converts and marries the man. Unfortunately, there is a man my age who went to a Scandinavian Country and when it came time to remove his Tzitzis instead of doing like the man in the Talmud, stopped wearing Tzitzis. The first man got a fantasy wife and the second nothing substantial in this world or any indication of a place in the next.
40 that ye may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy unto your God. 41 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.
The whole purpose of wearing the string fringes is to remember the L-RD G-D is with us.
Sivan Rachav Meir on Meir Tamari’s business card.
This is how Meir Tamari's business card that was murdered today in a terrorist attack in Northern Samaria looks like:
"I started working in electricity out of great interest and love for the profession, as well as repairing faults and solving problems for others, over 6 years ago.
I'm a big believer in honesty, professionalism and keeping up with times are the right foundation for any business wherever it is! I make sure to use quality equipment that meets the standards of the Israeli Standards Office.
I am happy to help people with troubleshooting, home upgrades and renovations and when they want to enjoy maximum comfort with smart home and fast communication."
Love, honesty, happiness, solutions. Another victim of terrorism that illuminates.

This week due to the combination of the hot weather, breathing problems and pacemaker I did not make the trip to my extended family with Meir Yitzchak Tamari but his toddler daughter putting dirt on his grave was on my mind and the infant who will no nothing about his daddy. I pulled myself together heat or no heat and went to pay a Shiva call about 20minute drive from me to the family of Chana Tova Finer Nachenberg.
I went to see the Finer Family first. Brother Zev showed my wife an article by a Rav saying that Rabbi Edelstein said that doctors in the ICU and others should not talk about the Patient’s condition for they are aware of what is going on around them.
Rachel, Zev’s wife, once told me in a talk to Chana that she saw a tear in Chana’s eye.
We discussed some Halachos of Mourning.
David, the husband, was sitting outside. He asked me where we knew each other. I told him that we don’t really know each other. I had met him as his daughter Sarah once as both of us left the Kupat Holim (medical clinic) which was then in Melrose Center, Modiin.
Even though our encounter was very brief, David had made a lasting impression on me with his ability to put to Rap all the Parshiyos.
David replied that he did have Rap for them all but had a poor memory and could not do ‘stand-up’ as he could only remember one or two at a time. His friend and band-master at his wedding to Chana, Lenny Solomon and composed music for his Rap on You Tube.

Now for the attack on Sbarro. Al-Masri was driven to the pizzeria by a Jordanian-born Palestinian woman, Ahlam Tamimi, who also assisted with the preparation of his bomb. She would later be released in the Shalit Deal going to Yarden and broadcasting. Despite the extradition treaty with US she was never turned over for trial of the murder of Americans. However, an American attempt to extradite her in 2017 was rebuffed by the Jordanians, who disingenuously claimed that a bilateral extradition treaty that was agreed with the United States more than 20 years earlier had expired. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) suggested that aid to Jordan might be suspended if the kingdom continues to refuse Tamimi’s extradition. “What I desire is to get this terrorist who murdered Americans to face justice.”
Tamimi became a celebrity in the Arab world, hosting her own weekly show on the Hamas satellite TV station, Al Quds. US Department of Justice issued a warrant for her capture. In between extolling the virtues of “martyrdom attacks” against Jews, she frequently celebrated her own monstrous achievement. On one occasion, when Tamimi learned that she had enabled the killing of eight children at the Sbarro restaurant and not three as she had previously believed, she turned to the camera wearing a broad grin of pride.
The attack took its toll on the small Dutch Community in Israel where every Dutch Immigrant seems to know each other. Mordechai and Tzira Schijveschuurder, both children of Holocaust survivors, were killed along with three of their children. The seven remaining siblings were orphans.
Returning to David’s story. Chana was with her favorite uncle at the time of the blast. The uncle and aunt were hit by shrapnel, Chana took a nail into her heart and toddler Sarah was scraped up. There were New Yorkers in the restaurant at the time. They gathered up Chana’s purse and ID as in NY if one died of a heart attack, robbers would come almost immediately and fleece the body and steal the wallet.
Chana, her uncle and baby Sarah were taken by ambulance to the hospital. David and Chana told Sarah never to talk to strangers so she refused to tell them her name or the name of her mommy who had no ID.
Somehow the aunt managed to contact the family and David was notified at work. His boss ordered a taxi to take him to Yerushalayim and then the search from hospital to hospital or the morgue went on.
In addition to the nails and explosives, Ahlam Tamimi had injected Al-Masri with Hepatitis C so that all the open wounds would meet his blood and be infected. David said that they wanted to do it with AIDS but once out of a body, AIDS dies.
Chana was without oxygen for up to 10minutes with her heart working and failing. When they took a brain scan, the doctors could not discern between the gray matter and white cells of the brain. David and later on Sarah did not believe that she could respond at all contrary to the insistence of the Finer Family. Sarah’s body only responded to extreme pain when the life support machines were cleaned but it was an impulsive reaction.
She is gone now and so are her living merits. Sarah did get married and has a toddler son and an infant daughter.
Prayers: During the course of the years I have seen people ask for others to pray for or with them. Some are top priority – healing prayers, success in obtaining an honorable and sufficiently paying employment. Others are more for a Bracha such as a successful move after the person has already bought a house. If the pray request was for finding a house in good shape with good neighbors in a good neighborhood that is a worthy prayer request. Praying for an Aliyah Neshama during Shiva or on the Yahrzeit. I have watched both Jews and non-Jews put in requests. Faith in a G-D who answers prayers is one thing but sometimes the answer is NO and has something to do with the straight ways of the L-RD and the DIVINE WILL and we in a 3D world cannot envision it or understand.
Faith must be that everything that happens is for good whither it appears bad to us from our perspective or not. There are some things morals with limited visions of the world do not understand.
