Parsha Re"eh Part 2, one story, Swords of Iron Updates

RIGHT BEFORE PUBLICATION: ONE OR TWO BODIES RECOVERED IN GAZA

Parsha Re’eh Part 2

Re’eh has 55 Mitzvos. Besides the personal project in my home renovation

2 If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams--and he give thee a sign or a wonder, 3 and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spoke unto thee--saying: 'Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them'; 4 thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God puts you to proof, to know whether ye do love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

This is similar to: 18:20 But the prophet, that shall speak a word presumptuously in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.' Perhaps the difference here is that he produces a sign or wonder. You are being tested by a trickster.

5 After the LORD your God shall ye walk, and Him shall ye fear, and His commandments shall ye keep, and unto His voice shall ye hearken, and Him shall ye serve, and unto Him shall ye cleave. 6 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken perversion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

There are certain people who could preform signs and wonders with the DIVINE NAME and then using it for their own purposes. Then there are the cult leaders with their charisma that charms people into following them. But in the end it is not for the sake of heaven so eventually these false prophets and cult leaders start going against the Torah. From idolatry through adultery or violations of other commandments bringing the death penalty upon themselves and perhaps their followers.

7 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, that is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying: 'Let us go and serve other gods,' which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 8 of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 9 thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him; 10 but thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Son or brother gets infected by idolatry there is no place or pity for him.

11 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to draw thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 12 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee.

The Torah is making an example of such people so one should see and fear.

13 If thou shalt hear tell concerning one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to dwell there, saying: 14 'Certain base fellows are gone out from the midst of thee, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying: Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known';

The idolatry plague can even affect a whole city or cause them to behave like Sodom. If you think this is not possible I was reading reports that Jews between the ages of 20 to 40 are following a Muslim antisemite, anti-Israel, anti-law & order, etc. in New York. If this is now with education and awareness of the Holocaust, all the more so then with bad education and perversion of thoughts.

15 then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in the midst of thee; 16 thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. 17 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the broad place thereof, and shall burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, unto the LORD thy God; and it shall be a heap forever; it shall not be built again.

In Tractate Sanhedrin there was a discussion if this ever occurred that a whole city went to idolatry and one witness reported that he had seen the ruins.

18 And there shall cleave nought of the devoted thing to thy hand, that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of His anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as He hath sworn unto thy fathers; 19 when thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all His commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God. 14:1 Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. 2 For thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be His own treasure out of all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

There is a Shiite Ceremony in Lebanon that has such cuttings on the head each year and appears to have remnants of Idolatry even though Muslims don’t believe such but actions speak louder than words.

3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the beasts which ye may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, 5 the hart, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the antelope, and the mountain-sheep. 6 And every beast that parts the hoof, and hath the hoof wholly cloven in two, and chews the cud, among the beasts, that ye may eat. 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that only chew the cud, or of them that only have the hoof cloven: the camel, and the hare, and the rock-badger, because they chew the cud but part not the hoof, they are unclean unto you; 8 and the swine, because he parts the hoof but chews not the cud, he is unclean unto you; of their flesh ye shall not eat, and their carcasses ye shall not touch.

A review here of Kashrus with more names of birds.

9 These ye may eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales may ye eat; 10 and whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye shall not eat; it is unclean unto you.

This rules out a certain eel that sheds weak scales upon leaving the water.

11 Of all clean birds ye may eat. 12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the great vulture, and the bearded vulture, and the ospray; 13 and the glede, and the falcon, and the kite after its kinds; 14 and every raven after its kinds; 15 and the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the sea-mew, and the hawk after its kinds; 16 the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl; 17 and the pelican, and the carrion-vulture, and the cormorant; 18 and the stork, and the heron after its kinds, and the hoopoe, and the bat. 19 And all winged swarming things are unclean unto you; they shall not be eaten. 20 Of all clean winged things ye may eat.

The locust is not mentioned here.

21 Ye shall not eat of anything that dies of itself; thou mayest give it unto the stranger that is within thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto a foreigner; for thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk.

Nevailah or something that dies of itself one cannot eat. Trafe or torn by beasts is not mentioned here as we learned before. The milk and meat combination is forbidden and in the days of the Mishnah applied to birds like chicken too.

22 Thou shalt surely tithe all the increase of thy seed, that which is brought forth in the field year by year. 23 And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which He shall choose to cause His name to dwell there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herd and of thy flock; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

If you fear the L-RD, then a blessing will come upon all your endeavors.

24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it, because the place is too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set His name there, when the LORD thy God shall bless thee; 25 then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thy hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose. 26 And thou shalt bestow the money for whatsoever thy soul desires, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul askes of thee; and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou and thy household.

Taking your own cow and sheep from far away like the Galilee, Golan or Kadesh Barnea might be hard to transport. Therefore, you sell your animal and with the money by a Korban to eat in Yerushalayim. Korban Todah (thanksgiving sacrifice), Korban Chagigah (holiday sacrifice besides the Pascal Lamb).

27 And the Levite that is within thy gates, thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee.

Remember to give a tenth of your crops to the Levi.

28 At the end of every three years, even in the same year, thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase, and shall lay it up within thy gates. 29 And the Levite, because he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hand which thou do.

This is the tithe [3rd and 6th years] is for the poor besides the forgotten sheath, corner of the field and what one forgets to gather.

To be Continued. Why continuing for a third week – Quality. On Day 689 of the war, I wrote below about the maintenance of my house. We also did some other work with plumbing and I have an electrical job left to do. Friday as I am finalizing the weekly Torah I came across an article of the most expensive house in America up for sale. The sellers are billionaire philanthropists... Why do they sell? “Maintaining all these luxury properties is just too hard,” they say. My home is a little less luxurious.

In the Month of Elul, The Mouth should never be empty.

By Rabbi Yerachmiel Tilles

s1446VishnitzFogelElul

Someone once visited Reb Yosef-Shmuel Fogel (1911-1986) in an old-age home in Jerusalem. Reb Yosef Shmuel was saying Tehillim (Psalms) aloud then, and he didn't interrupt when his visitor arrived.

As soon as Yosef Shmuel finished reciting Tehillim, he said, "I will tell you why I didn't interrupt my Tehillim when you arrived. As a bachur (yeshiva student), I studied in the yeshiva of the tzadik, the Damesek Eliezer of Vizhnitz. There wasn't much to eat in the yeshiva.

Once, I was outside, exhausted from hunger, when I saw a man riding in a wagon filled with apples. The wagon was shaking slightly, so I was thinking that an apple might very well fall off the wagon. And that is what happened! The wagon bumped into a stone, whereupon an apple fell off. I waited for the wagon to pass and to be out of sight, and then [1] I picked up the apple, said the blessing borei pri HaEtz, and took a bite.

"All of a sudden, I hear someone answering 'Amen!' to my blessing! I looked around and saw that it was the Damesek Eliezer himself who had answered amen. It was very embarrassing for me (because it wasn't considered proper for a chasidic bachur to eat outdoors).

The Damesek Eliezer put his hand on the nape of my neck and walked with me. He said, 'Yosef Shmuel, you acted like a true chasidisher bachur. It is now the month of Elul, and in Elul the mouth should never be empty, not even for a minute. You don't know Mishna by heart, so you filled your mouth with the apple.'"

Reb Yosef Shmuel concluded by telling his guest, "From then until today, I cannot waste time in Elul."

Why This Week? 1) The story emphasizes the specialness of the month of Elul, which started on the first day of this week. 2) Monday night - Tuesday, 2 Elul, is the yahrzeit of the Damesek Eliezer (which I did not know until I did research for the paragraphs below!)

Biographic note:
Rabbi Eliezer Hager [1891- 2 Elul 1946], the Vizhnitzer Rebbe known as the "Damesek Eliezer," was the third son and successor to his father, the holy "Ahavat Yisrael" ("Lover of Israel") of Vizhnitz.
In 1923, he re-established the great yeshiva in Vizhnitz, which thousands of students attended. If not for Rabbi Eliezer and his yeshiva, there would hardly have been a single religious young man left in the whole area [as his brothers, the holy rebbes, Chaim Meir of Vizhnitz and Baruch of Seret-Vizhnitz, wrote in their preface to Rabbi Eliezer's book, "Damesek Eliezer"]. Subsequently, he founded a Bais Yaakov school for girls, through which he also saved countless souls of Jewish girls from assimilation.
The Damesek Eliezer was crowned as Rebbe after his father's passing in 1936. During the Holocaust, he put his life on the line by operating an amazing system of rescue which, according to testimonies, saved thousands of Transylvanian men, women, and children. He encouraged many of his followers and students to immigrate to the Land of Israel.
In1944, the Rebbe finally agreed to leave Europe for the Holy Land. In Israel, he accomplished re-establishing Vizhnitz Chasidism and its institutions and communities. After a serious illness, he passed away at age 55, having become respected as one of the country's foremost Chassidic leaders. Footnote [1] Once the wagon driver never paused and was soon out of sight of the apple, we may assume that either he didn't know the apple fell or he knew but felt it not worth his time to retrace his steps and look for it. In both cases, Jewish Law rules that such an object is considered abandoned and therefore ownerless, and anyone may take possession of it by picking it up. [Even more so for the student who had no conceivable way to find the owner and return it to him (even if it was something of great value!)]

Swords of Iron Day 687 and Day 688 start of week 99 no end in sight

Friday afternoon, I told my wife I have a gut feeling that the Houthis are going to send a rocket tonight and I have a Shalom Zachar far away by the Hirsch Family. At around 5PM a drone from Yemen was shot down. But still had that feeling. Prayed the welcoming of the Bride, Shabbos and went to Kiddush and the meal. At 20:55 just before I started eating the meat – warning from Home Command bleeped from my phone. I told my wife and Menashe, took my water downstairs and my wife was very hungry so she took utensils and her plate. The light in the shelter and the TV were on before Shabbos. The TV notices popped up before the regular siren and “red alert app” did not issue a siren only home command. Afterwards, 21:09, the all clear was given and I finished eating and walked to the Shalom Zachar. Yemen's Houthis fire missile, drone at Israel; missile breaks up mid-air; no injuries | The Times of Israel

I don’t have an editor and I wrote the first sentence in green and then corrected to:

This is the serious side of hospitalization in many countries from a reader of the blogspot.: It is a thriller and scary and I had a very bad experience last night with a Muslim nurse that don’t want to help. Some people saw the colors in the blogspot but the original went out without FORM A READER OF THIS BLOGSPOT. So I got a few messages from friends. It was not about me, although when I had the pacemaker put in, there was an Arab Male Nurse who brought me extra bed pans that I would not ring him again. I had a pleasant experience from a female Arab Nurse whom I said after a different operation please call the non-Jewish nurse to do such as such and she told me that she was an Arab but was kind. It is a certain personality.

I also recalled that a 51year old reporter for Times of Israel passed away and Miriam Benyamin, the Astrologer of Yediot Ahronoth passed away at the age of 85. She was predicting that after or around Rosh Hashanah things would turn better for Israel.

Swords of Iron Day 689

From Friday to today, my house saw a revolution. After 37 years, my wife wanted new tiles to be glued over the old. The old were 30cm by 30cm and the new 80cm by 80cm. My direct mailing and Facebook Page will get to see this. It meant my wife and grandchildren cleaning out cabinets and then Menashe a special cupboard stowage next to the kitchen. The noise of the disk on the ceramics was in my ears. Still I got out some of the Torah last week and the news yesterday, purchased grout for the floor and my wife drove me to the restaurant so that I would have energy for Torah. Still my loss was learning with Rabbi Mimran even one day is like losing 310worlds of Halacha. My profits from electrical production fell as doors were open to dry out the setting glue and cutting of the bottom of the door so that it would be a few centimeters less to swing open and closed. I have produced savings of similar to planting 232 trees according to the app. Production is passing 20.5MW since the start of the year that is like powering 10,500 to 11,000 homes for a day.

The chance of a Houthi Rocket or part of hitting one is small, but so is winning the lottery and people do win. I was up bright and early. I was about to step into the shower when at 05:28 the warning went off. Now to redress put on Yarmulke and grab the wife’s phone, warn the wife and get downstairs. The siren started on my way down 05:30 and the next ten minutes waiting for the all clear. Of course when we hit the Parliament Building, the only ones killed were three women and seven children – now tell me another rooster and bull story.
