Parsha Ki Sisa the golden calf, Pasha Vayechel, 4 war miracles, swords of iron updates.

 Parsha Ki Sisa Part 2

32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him: 'Up, make us a god who shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.'

40 days after hearing “You shall not make images of objects in heaven above or the earth below” the mixed multitude needs an image.

2 And Aaron said unto them: 'Break off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.'

This is the story of the Egel HaZahav (golden calf) and I will bring it down next week. I took for myself a deserved vacation at the Dead Sea and had to catch up on my Baba Kama learning for the soul of my late father-in-law. To skip this section would make life easier for me next week but I do have some things to say on the subject.

The water temperature in the Dead Sea was ideal. I did not go on windy days so I was in twice once for 50minutes and once for 40minutes it was a needed rest from all the tensions of the world but there were displaced people also in the hotel and it is super hard to live weeks on end in a small room with community and family.

3 And all the people broke off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

Similar to the collection for the Mishkan the 3,000 men and a number of women did this for the Egel HaZahav. He wanted to delay this unruly mob. He was a man of peace, pursued peace and was afraid of millions of people without a leader if he died like Hur.

When I was 13.5years old in the Free Synagogue of Flushing, NY (Reform). The assistant ‘Rabbi’ who was about to take over the Synagogue taught my “Conformation” class. His lecture included a lot of Atheistic Ideas. But one thing rang a bell and it perhaps describes the Reform Movement better than he thought. The section that he covered was “Priest vs. Prophet”. The Priest Aaron was to serve the spiritual needs of the people. Vs. Moshe, the prophet, who was servant of HASHEM.

Before one gets upset by my argument against the Reform Movement, some individual ‘Rabbis’ might be Reform like I was, from birth, and do not know better. The argument in favor of some of the Reform ‘Rabbis’ both male and females maybe 6th, 7th or even 8th generation Reform like my family, their hearts may be in the right place; but educated on propaganda like myself – 6th generation Reform that I was a pre-Woke boor and Am HaAretz. Maybe educate them with Halacha and at least Mishnayos for starters.

What he described with the “Priest” doing the will of the people with the golden calf actually seemed to be describing Reform Judaism with continuing Woke Agenda, Me-too even for Mrs. Potiphar, mixed Minyanim, Kiddush on Yom Kippur, traveling on Shabbos. In short it looks like a Hetir for all Nederim: Everything is permissible for you, there is no Neder, etc. etc. … nothing exists now you can eat a pork cheese burger.

This along with the Organ on Shabbos and a mixed choir makes the Reform closer to a church than a Synagogue. The Conservative movement took a step backwards towards Judaism and even a very weak learning program for ordination but they do have a mild resemblance to Torah Judaism. Still many of the Congregants ride to Schul on Shabbos, don’t observe Kashrus outside of the home, mixed prayers and their Kashrus inspection is closer to emergency permissibility than forthright Kosher.

I have been working with potential Converts for many years now. Many are sincere and want to be Jews. They fall for the Reform that call themselves Judaism and “Rabbis” or the weak Conservative Judaism and not know what they are doing. The organ and choir reminds them of where they came from. Little do they know that their “Rabbis” never learned Halacha, Mishnah, Gemara (Talmud), Medrash, Zohar, etc. What they did learn was how to make an appeal, give a nice talk at a funeral, wedding, Bar or Bas Mitzvah, etc. They would be more honest and have a bigger place in heaven being a Ben or Bas Noach aka Noachide.

4 And he received it at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said: 'This is thy god, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Why a calf? The answer is in Chapter 1 of Yechezkel. They had seen the DIVINE CHARIOT by the Sea. The calf was part of Maaseh Merkava (chariot).

5 And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said: 'To-morrow shall be a feast to the LORD.'

He is delaying the calf hoping that Moshe will return before they do this act.

6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to make merry.

One thing is to eat and drink by a Korban in sanctity like the Pesach Seder and it is another thing to “Make Merry” which implies rowdiness, bawdiness and more as Rashi writes on immorality.

7 And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Go, get thee down; for thy people, that thou brought up out of the land of Egypt, have dealt corruptly; 8 they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed unto it, and said: This is thy god, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Fortunately for Am Yisrael, Moshe does not know what G-D is viewing so he can argue our case.

9 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people. 10 Now therefore let Me alone, that My wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of thee a great nation.' 11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, why doth Thy wrath wax hot against Thy people, that Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

Moshe saw in the people what I wrote in Italics above about the uneducated Reform who could be like I was, just plain boorish. The argument would save the nation.

12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, saying: For evil did He bring them forth, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from Thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against Thy people.

Moshe does not fully realize the extent of the golden calf. He therefore as the faithful shepherd of the nation takes up the position of defense lawyer.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Thy servants, to whom Thou didst swear by Thine own self, and said unto them: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.'

How can you go against your promises to Avraham, Yitzchak and Yacov?

14 And the LORD repented of the evil which He said He would do unto His people. 15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tables of the testimony in his hand; tables that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

Moshe calmed down the L-RD with the promises made and promises to be kept.

16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. 17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses: 'There is a noise of war in the camp.'

Yoshua was waiting for Moshe as a Yeshiva Student for his Rosh Yeshiva. He hears the uproar and awaits an order from Moshe about quelling the war.

18 And he said: 'It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome, but the noise of them that sing do I hear.'

It is not the cry of battle or the routing of an army but singing and merriment.

19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.

Our Sages tell us that if Moshe had not lost his temper an the two Luchos had remained intact, the whole world would be better for all today.

20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Anybody who has drunk some water from a rusty pipe or have had to take liquid iron will tell you how unpleasant it is to drink a metallic taste.

21 And Moses said unto Aaron: 'What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought a great sin upon them?'

Aaron what have you done here? In an angry tone.

22 And Aaron said: 'Let not the anger of my lord wax hot; thou know the people, that they are set on evil. 23 So they said unto me: Make us a god, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him. 24 And I said unto them: Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off; so, they gave it me; and I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.'

I was stalling for time until you would return. This mob had taken control as soon as Hur was murdered and they only way to control them was casting gold into a fire and this calf was the result.

25 And when Moses saw that the people were broken loose--for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies-- 26 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said: 'Whoso is on the LORD'S side, let him come unto me.' And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. 27 And he said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Put ye every man his sword upon his thigh, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.' 28 And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. 29 And Moses said: 'Consecrate yourselves to-day to the LORD, for every man hath been against his son and against his brother; that He may also bestow upon you a blessing this day.'

Going against your brother who came out of Egypt with you and/or even your brother-in-law if he participated in this sin.

30 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people: 'Ye have sinned a great sin; and now I will go up unto the LORD, peradventure I shall make atonement for your sin.' 31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: 'Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them a god of gold. 32 Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray Thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.' 33 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.

Kares in the next world.

34 And now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee; behold, Mine angel shall go before thee; nevertheless in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.' 35 And the LORD smote the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made. 33:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Depart, go up hence, thou and the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land of which I swore unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying: Unto thy seed will I give it-- 2 and I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite-- 3 unto a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people; lest I consume thee in the way.' 4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned; and no man did put on him his ornaments. 5 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto the children of Israel: Ye are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst of thee for one moment, I shall consume thee; therefore, now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.' 6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward.

Everybody had to atone. The good folk should have organized themselves and opposed the mob as a sheriff organizes a posy after a criminal.

7 Now Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp; and he called it the tent of meeting. And it came to pass, that every one that sought the LORD went out unto the tent of meeting, which was without the camp. 8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the Tent. 9 And it came to pass, when Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Tent; and [the LORD] spoke with Moses. 10 And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door.

They released their lack of action against the golden calf and truly repented.

11 And the LORD spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man speaks unto his friend. And he would return into the camp; but his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent. 12 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'See, Thou say unto me: Bring up this people; and Thou hast not let me know whom Thou wilt send with me. Yet Thou hast said: I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in My sight. 13 Now therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, show me now Thy ways, that I may know Thee, to the end that I may find grace in Thy sight; and consider that this nation is Thy people.'

Please show me YOUR ways so that I can teach the people.

14 And He said: 'My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.' 15 And he said unto Him: 'If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein now shall it be known that I have found grace in Thy sight, I and Thy people? is it not in that Thou go with us, so that we are distinguished, I and Thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?' 17 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken, for thou hast found grace in My sight, and I know thee by name.' 18 And he said: 'Show me, I pray Thee, Thy glory.' 19 And He said: 'I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.'

This will pass by you and you shall feel and experience it.

20 And He said: 'Thou canst not see My face, for man shall not see Me and live.'

For the soul could not remain in the body if one saw G-D. It is a matter of being a part of the DIVINE SPARK within man’s soul leaving to unite with the CREATOR.

21 And the LORD said: 'Behold, there is a place by Me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock. 22 And it shall come to pass, while My glory passes by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with My hand until I have passed by. 23 And I will take away My hand, and thou shalt see My back; but My face shall not be seen.'

The place of the Tephillin on the nape of the neck.

34:1  And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first; and I will write upon the tables the words that were on the first tables, which thou didst break. 2 And be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to Me on the top of the mount.

You broke the Luchos, now you must remake the Luchos as they were given to you.

3 And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.'

As with the first days, you shall come up the mount for another 40days.

4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone. 5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed: 'The LORD, the LORD, God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; 7 keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and unto the fourth generation.'

These are the 13 DIVINE ATTRIBUTES.

8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 9 And he said: 'If now I have found grace in Thy sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray Thee, go in the midst of us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Thine inheritance.'

Translated into current terms: A leader must lead the confused and bewildered public. He should not run after the latest fad or public opinion poll but do what the L-RD wants him to do. Doing the correct thing is not necessarily what the stiffnecked public opinion poll wants.

10 And He said: 'Behold, I make a covenant; before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been wrought in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD that I am about to do with thee, that it is tremendous.

Still I will keep my promise to the forefathers and make miracles for your nation.

11 Observe thou that which I am commanding thee this day; behold, I am driving out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou go, lest they be for a snare in the midst of thee.

Tragically today the Erev Rav is running this country both from the right and from the left. The whole conception of bribing Hamas for quiet brought upon us our current war by misconception.

13 But ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and ye shall cut down their Asherim. 14 For thou shalt bow down to no other god; for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God; 15 lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go astray after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and they call thee, and thou eat of their sacrifice; 16 and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go astray after their gods, and make thy sons go astray after their gods. 17 Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

Again the prohibition of idolatry.

18 The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib thou came out from Egypt.

A reminder of observing Pesach.

19 All that opens the womb is Mine; and of all thy cattle thou shalt sanctify the males, the firstlings of ox and sheep. 20 And the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break its neck. All the first-born of thy sons you shalt redeem. And none shall appear before Me empty.

A memory of the killing of the first born and redeeming ours.

21 Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest; in plowing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.

There is no excuse for violating Shabbos even in the most urgent of times like plowing or harvesting. Shabbos must be observed.

22 And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, even of the first-fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the turn of the year.

Reminder of Shavuos.

23 Three times in the year shall all thy males appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel. 24 For I will cast out nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders; neither shall any man covet thy land, when thou go up to appear before the LORD thy God three times in the year.

The three Regelim are mentioned but Sukkos is only hinted at here.

25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the Passover be left unto the morning. 26 The choicest first-fruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in its mother's milk.'

This is the third and last time the prohibition of milk and meat are mentioned.

27 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Write thou these words, for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.' 28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten words. 29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of the testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face sent forth beams while He talked with him.

This time when Moshe came down, he was more like an Angel than human as he shone from the DIVINE Light.

30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face sent forth beams; and they were afraid to come nigh him. 31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him; and Moses spoke to them. 32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh, and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.

Moshe spoke to the Bnei Yisrael via a veil.

34 But when Moses went in before the LORD that He might speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out; and spoke unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. 35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face sent forth beams; and Moses put the veil back upon his face, until he went in to speak with Him.

Moshe did not know that he shone, but since the whole nation could see it, he learned of it and put on a veil.

            Parsha Vayachel

This week’s Torah Portion opens up where I left off from last week on the holiness of

Shabbos. The only Melacha specifically mention in the Torah that of kindling fire appears immediately below. There will be other times when Shabbos and Yom Tov is mentioned but here the death penalty for violation is mentioned specifically. I don’t suggest that one heaven forbid eat non-kosher or not take tithes, but the death penalty is not there for such violations. It is there for various acts such as incest, murder, adultery, idol worship and various promiscuity crimes many of whom are endorsed by the Woke Culture and in previous generations idolatry cults.

There are two Hebrew words this week that have similar letters. Paroches and Kapores.

The Paroches is the curtain covering the Teva where the blood was sometimes sprinkled. The Kapores is the area of atonement between the two Keruvim of the Teva. Similar in many ways but different so when one hears the words being read you have an idea of what and where things are to be in the working of the Miskan/Mikdash.

35:1 And Moses assembled all the congregation of the children of Israel, and said unto them: 'These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them. 2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you a holy day, a sabbath of solemn rest to the LORD; whosoever does any work therein shall be put to death.

I feel sorry for the millions of Jews who have grown up like myself and had no realization of the importance of Shabbos. Last week, I explained the wording of “And the people of Israel should guard/observe the Shabbos” that it was between “ME and the children of Israel.” This week I intend to explain why the death penalty for violating the Shabbos purposely or being cut off from the people in the next world. Accidently, one has to bring a Sin Offering known in Hebrew Korban Chatas.

To understand the Chumra or seriousness of the death penalty, we have to see in other cases where it is applied. Death Sentences are given for idol worship, murder, adultery, selling somebody who should be free into slavery, bestiality, male homosexual relationship, violation or trespass of the Mikdash/Mishkan, witchcraft-divination and purposely violating the Shabbos.

When I work with potential converts, I am always wary when I read messages from them that they want to be Reform or Conservative Jews. It is not because of their politics or how they have changed the prayer books. [When I was a youth, the Conservative and Orthodox Siddurim had next to no differences but over the years of women equality and ‘modernization’ (a derivative of idolatry call ‘moving along with the times’ but not necessarily moving along with the times with the Halachic Laws).] These “converts” are entering into a congregation where the majority of members don’t observe Shabbos, Family Purity or perhaps Kashrus ‘for the health reasons of not eating pork or shell fish no longer exist’. Who in tarnation mentioned that the laws were given for health reasons? Arabs eat camels and drink camel’s milk and are healthy. The French Colleges still serve Horsemeat and Frogs but we don’t eat these animals because G-D told us not too! Finished, end of story we are following a DIVINE Command. When some devil is shooting anti-Kodesh Missiles at you – you have to shoot back with observance of the Torah to defend yourself.

For the Sanhedrin to impose a death penalty it had to have two witnesses that warned the person that for example: Chopping Wood on Shabbos is forbidden or Chopping off the head of your neighbor is murder, sacrificing a cat or dog to the devil is idolatry or going into seclusion with Mrs. So, and So would be considered adultery, etc.

At this point the two witnesses come and said this man/woman was warned this and that and still did the same. The witnesses upon the verdict that are the first to lay their hands on the violator and then the nation continues the execution.

When the person violates the Shabbos he/she is breaking the contract between “ME and the children of Israel.” But it is more than that as we have to return back to conclusion of the evening and the morning on the sixth day of creation. Shabbos and rest was a new creation or concept.

The end of the passage last week was about the renewal of the soul. Violating the Shabbos goes against the DIVINE Soul Sparks within mankind.

Last but not least one car owner would not put sugar into his gasoline tank if the manufacture would tell you that it could clog-up or damage your engine. Your manufacturer aka CREATOR told you that your Neshama won the lottery to be Jewish and you must observe Shabbos, Kashrus, Family Purity, etc.

3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.'

This is the only Melacha of the 39 that is stated. Perhaps it was the foresight of the L-RD who would see that lighting a match or a switch lighting a spark in a car would be such a simple form of work/Melacha that it might be brushed aside; therefore, the Torah uses fire as it is a wake up call for modern man.

4 And Moses spoke unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: 'This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying:

Six days a week, one could donate to the Mishkan. This is what the appeal is for you to donate from your heart.

5 Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD, whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, the LORD'S offering: gold, and silver, and brass; 6 and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair; 7 and rams' skins dyed red, and sealskins, and acacia-wood; 8 and oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense; 9 and onyx stones, and stones to be set, for the ephod, and for the breastplate. 10 And let every wise-hearted man among you come, and make all that the LORD hath commanded: 11 the tabernacle, its tent, and its covering, its clasps, and its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets; 12 the ark, and the staves thereof, the ark-cover, and the veil of the screen; 13 the table, and its staves, and all its vessels, and the showbread; 14 the candlestick also for the light, and its vessels, and its lamps, and the oil for the light; 15 and the altar of incense, and its staves, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the screen for the door, at the door of the tabernacle; 16 the altar of burnt-offering, with its grating of brass, its staves, and all its vessels, the laver and its base; 17 the hangings of the court, the pillars thereof, and their sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court; 18 the pins of the tabernacle, and the pins of the court, and their cords; 19 the plaited garments, for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office.' 20 And all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses. 21 And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and brought the LORD'S offering, for the work of the tent of meeting, and for all the service thereof, and for the holy garments.

Their hearts were aroused.

22 And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing-hearted, and brought nose-rings, and ear-rings, and signet-rings, and girdles, all jewels of gold; even every man that brought an offering of gold unto the LORD. 23 And every man, with whom was found blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair, and rams' skins dyed red, and girafeskins, brought them. 24 Every one that did set apart an offering of silver and brass brought the LORD'S offering; and every man, with whom was found acacia-wood for any work of the service, brought it. 25 And all the women that were wise-hearted did spin with their hands, and brought that which they had spun, the blue, and the purple, the scarlet, and the fine linen. 26 And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun the goats' hair. 27 And the rulers brought the onyx stones, and the stones to be set, for the ephod, and for the breastplate; 28 and the spice, and the oil, for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense. 29 The children of Israel brought a freewill-offering unto the LORD; every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all the work, which the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses to be made.

They did so with free will.

30 And Moses said unto the children of Israel: 'See, the LORD hath called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 And He hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.

They had more that apprentice training and a few years of work, but they had the DIVINE SPIRIT aka Shechina and prophecy upon them.

32 And to devise skillful works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 33 and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all manner of skilful workmanship. 34 And He hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. 35 Them hath He filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of workmanship, of the craftsman, and of the skilful workman, and of the weaver in colors, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any workmanship, and of those that devise skilful works.

Even if you or I were the worse unskilled designers, carpenters, metal casters, weavers; there would be people like Betzalel and Oholiav that would take our donations and turn them into the Mishkan.

36:1 And Bezalel and Oholiab shall work, and every wise-hearted man, in whom the LORD hath put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all the work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD hath commanded.' 2 And Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every wise-hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it. 3 And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, wherewith to make it. And they brought yet unto him freewill-offerings every morning. 4 And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they wrought. 5 And they spoke unto Moses, saying: 'The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make.' 6 And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying: 'Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.' So the people were restrained from bringing. 7 For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.

It turned out that the people had such charitable hearts and free-will donations/offerings that a stop had to be put upon any more donations!

8 And every wise-hearted man among them that wrought the work made the tabernacle with ten curtains: of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, with cherubim the work of the skilful workman made he them. 9 The length of each curtain was eight and twenty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains had one measure. 10 And he coupled five curtains one to another; and the other five curtains he coupled one to another. 11 And he made loops of blue upon the edge of the one curtain that was outmost in the first set; likewise, he made in the edge of the curtain that was outmost in the second set. … 38 and the five pillars of it with their hooks; and he overlaid their capitals and their fillets with gold; and their five sockets were of brass.

They may have initiated the Mishkan with an example of what work was to be done and the workers followed precisely with quality control inspection.

37:1 And Bezalel made the ark of acacia-wood: two cubits and a half was the length of it, and a cubit and a half the breadth of it, and a cubit and a half the height of it. 2 And he overlaid it with pure gold within and without, and made a crown of gold to it round about. 3 And he cast for it four rings of gold, in the four feet thereof: even two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 4 And he made staves of acacia-wood, and overlaid them with gold. 5 And he put the staves into the rings on the sides of the ark, to bear the ark. 6 And he made an ark-cover of pure gold: two cubits and a half was the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. 7 And he made two cherubim of gold: of beaten work made he them, at the two ends of the ark-cover: 8 one cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end; of one piece with the ark-cover made he the cherubim at the two ends thereof. 9 And the cherubim spread out their wings on high, screening the ark-cover with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the ark-cover were the faces of the cherubim.

He saw the same vision that Moshe saw. Moshe hadn’t the foggiest idea how to do it and Betzalel understood immediately and succeeded. So, when we sing on Shabbos the song, “Every one in his camp and every one under his flag.” We should remember, we do for Am Yisrael what we are capable of doing and others pitch in their share.

10 And he made the table of acacia-wood: two cubits was the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. 11 And he overlaid it with pure gold, and made thereto a crown of gold round about. … 29 And he made the holy anointing oil, and the pure incense of sweet spices, after the art of the perfumer. 38:1 And he made the altar of burnt-offering of acacia-wood: five cubits was the length thereof, and five cubits the breadth thereof, four-square, and three cubits the height thereof. 2 And he made the horns thereof upon the four corners of it; the horns thereof were of one piece with it; and he overlaid it with brass. … 19 And their pillars were four, and their sockets four, of brass; their hooks of silver, and the overlaying of their capitals and their fillets of silver. 20 And all the pins of the tabernacle, and of the court round about, were of brass.

It is a big Mitzvah to listen to the Torah Reading on this section and hear about every item, but as a commentator, I have nothing to add to this.

Parsha Shekelim Ki Sisa again Shemos 30:11 - 16

This week we start reading the four Parshiyos before Pesach. Next one is Zachor before Purim regarding Amalek and then the theme turns to the purification of the Para Aduma or Red Heifer. And last but not least Parsha the Chodesh where the Korban Pesach is mentioned. NOTE: Rosh Chodesh Adar Bet is on Sunday and Monday this coming week. Pesach is six weeks from now.

Diane Weber Bederman wrote an Op-Ed on parenting. It is more than just a broken educational system that children become a sexual mess or worse. It is also a broken parenting system. In my day “spare the rod and spoil the child” was the norm. The problem was that often I got strapped for humming when my father was doing the income tax. Okay I have a nasty habit of humming to myself. The solution today is listening to a shiur or music (back in the day).

My daughter is firm with my grandchildren and they turned out all right without the rod or strap. But somebody who begs his children to listen to him/her will end up with spoiled self-centered and maybe woke creatures in human bodies. Who is the boss, the parent, the Woke Agenda Teacher, or at least the Torah as our guide?

A Birthday Surprise for Reuven Ben Porash by Rabbi Rachamim Pauli

When you see me writing a story in Red, by now you must know some miraculous happened 95% of the time. This week I bring down three stories.

This was an expansion of a news item of the police commanders giving officer Reuven an advancement to Sargent Major this week in the hospital. Nes-Li expanded upon this news item into the miraculous survival of a hero.

Somewhere between 7 and 7:25 AM on Oct. 7th, Reuven was at his parent’s home in Ashkelon when he gets a call from his command. “Terrorist have infiltrated Israel and we are heading for junction so and so.

Reuven only has his pistol and he drives off into the fray. He meets a civilian blocking traffic going south warning that there are terrorists on the road. He meets up with his commander and another higher-ranking policeman. They head south. They come to a white pick-up truck that opens fire upon them. Reuven shots back with his pistol. He is shot three times in his right arm that is pretty badly shredded.

More shots and he is shot a few times in his leg as he turns around the car and receives three bullets in his back. He manages to drive to a medical office on a Kibbutz. They put a tourniquet upon his leg as he warns the border police there of the white pick-up of the terrorists. Somebody who picked up supernova party goers and rushes him to Soroka Hospital.

While on the way to the hospital, Reuven sends a text message to his wife of his love and to his parents as he is afraid that these are his last moments and he wants to say “good-bye”.

In the hospital, the doctors manage to save Reuven’s life. He is in intensive care for a while. Reuven is relearning to walk on his leg that was banged up with bullets.

Earlier this week, Reuven was wheeled by his wife with a friend was walking and talking to him. One of the heads of the southern police district pulls out a rank of Sergeant Major for Reuven and along with his wife puts it on his tee shirt as he sits in a wheel chair.

Reuven felt bad for his two commanding officers who made the ultimate sacrifice that day but he is grateful for the miracles that kept him going through his birthday and beyond.

At the ceremony, the police district chief said that “we need more officers like you.”

Run boy Run by Rabbi Rachamim Pauli

My Atheist Reform ‘Rabbi’ mentioned above in the Golden Calf Commentary above was teaching me that miracles are natural events that occur. It might be true that red clay or algae pollutes the Nile River once every 6,000 years but it is that split second or minute that Moshe is talking to Pharaoh that it occurs that makes it into a miracle and beyond nature. [Remember Nature, Teva, and ELOKIM has the same Gematria in Hebrew.]

I did not get the name of the boy who was (I believe on Kibbutz Nir Oz) out for a run Oct. 7th. He had started either a few seconds before or after the sirens that day. Had he stared out for his run too early he might have run back to home or too late stayed at him.

No, the miracle was that started his run just before the rocket attack. He ran from his home to the back gate of the Kibbutz. He had to jog to security to ask the head to open the gate.

The sirens had sounded there was no way he would let a young fellow run or open up the back gate. He placed the boy in the shelter at the far end of the Kibbutz.

Tragically, his mother, father and two sisters were murdered in cold blood that day. His aunt and uncle are raising him.

Lucky singer and Broadway Star had her visit to Kibbutz Beeri Cancelled

by Rabbi Rachamim Pauli

Two weeks ago, in the entertainment section of Yediot Achronot, there was an interview with Miri Mesika. She is a judge on the Israeli Equivalent of American Idol. She is from humble origins in Israel and has a very close friend on Kibbutz Beeri despite her fame.

She was supposed to be visiting Beeri by her friend on Simchas Torah aka Oct. 7th.

A short time before the planned trip, the daughter of her friend obtained two tickets to Europe and surprised her mother. Miri got a phone call from her friend who flew out on Thursday for a short trip and promised Miri a later invitation.

Miri’s friend lived in the house closed to Gaza. It was the first house complete burned down and destroyed on Oct. 7th. B”H both Miri and her displaced friend are still alive and well.

Davening Shemona Esray saves the day.

During one battle, IDF advanced spotters saw a bunch of soldiers in between their positions. To the east of these fighters the units were identified same to the west and both north and south. There was a second check that went through the command to make sure that we do not hit ours with friendly fire.

It appeared to the ground units that these soldiers were enemy. An air strike was called in. Just as they were about to be hit. The unit took a prayer break as there was a lull in the fighting. They were davening Shemona Esray. At the last minute or two the air strike was called off.

In case you don’t read all of the Op-Ed read this: Remember Charlottesville?  A group of white supremacist Nazis walked through the town during Trump’s speech and the media went crazy. But, after all the strum and drang  – the storm and distress –  we learned that Trump did not stand with them.  And we soon learned that KKK lover David Duke endorsed Muslim Ilhan Omar.

Regarding the NC gubernatorial race reported earlier this week. I received the following msg that I shall keep the source confidential for the time being: When North Carolina voters go to the polls in November to elect their next governor, they will choose between a Jewish Democrat and a Republican who has been accused of antisemitism but said he apologized. = Two sides of the same coin!

Have a healthy, happy and peaceful Shabbos,
