Vayikra
We finished Sefer Shemos
with the assembly of the Mishkan. Now we are ready for the service of HASHEM
through the Korbanos in the Mishkan. Vayikra starts with the dedication of the
Mishkan by the tribes and the gifts of the Princes to be described in Naso. All
of Vayikra and the first three Sedras (Parshiyos) of Bamidbar deal with a time
period of a month and a half between Rosh Chodesh Nisan and Pesach Sheni. One
might argue with the Halachos laws of Shavuos that perhaps until then but no
more.

JPS 1917 Translation as it is free and complete on-line so often ole-English is
used and kill instead of slaughter is used etc.
1:1 And the LORD called unto Moses, and spoke unto him
out of the tent of meeting, saying: 2 Speak unto the
children of Israel, and say unto them: When any man of you brings an offering
unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd or
of the flock. 3 If his offering be a burnt-offering of
the herd, he shall offer it a male without blemish; he shall bring it to the
door of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD.
The Korban Olah has
to be either a Bull, Ram or Billy-goat.
Male: but not a female. When Scripture
repeats later (verse 10) [that the burnt-offering must be] “a male [animal],”
it appears unnecessary to state that [since Scripture has already taught us
that it must be a male animal and not a female. Therefore, this repetition of
the word “male,” comes to teach us that a sacrifice must consist of a
completely] male [animal], not an animal of indeterminate gender or a
hermaphrodite. — [Bechoros. 41b] Unblemished: Heb. תָּמִים,
perfect, without a blemish.
4 And he shall lay his hand
upon the head of the burnt-offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make
atonement for him.
All the Korbanos
require the Semicha or laying of the hands on the Korban and the name of the
Korban is mentioned. Example Korban Olah or Korban Pesach. This way the Cohain
has Kavanah for the Korban.
Upon the head of the burnt offering: [The text could have simply said “upon its head.” However, it
adds “burnt offering”] to include [any sacrifice that is called a “burnt
offering,” namely,] (1) an obligatory burnt offering, that it too
requires סְמִיכָה [leaning
the hands on its head. Since this section deals with voluntary burnt offerings,
this case requires an extra word to include it. See commentary on verse 2];
also included is (2) a burnt offering from the flock [that it too must
have סְמִיכָה,
for this is not specified in the verses dealing with the burnt offering from
the flock. See verses 10-13]. — [Toras Kohanim 1:30]
5 And he shall kill the
bullock before the LORD;
When we see ‘kill’ it
means ritually slaughtered. This voluntary offering is brought by the wealthy
man.
Chabad translates
this properly: And he shall slaughter the young bull before the Lord.
and Aaron's sons, the priests,
shall present the blood, and dash the blood roundabout against the altar that
is at the door of the tent of meeting.
6 And he shall flay the
burnt-offering, and cut it into its pieces.
Specially trained
Cohanim flay the Korban and cut it into pieces.
Its [prescribed] sections: [The verse does not state that the animal is cut into pieces,
but rather “into its pieces,” implying that it must be cut into specific
prescribed pieces] and not [to cut] its [prescribed] pieces into [smaller]
pieces. — [Toras Kohanim 1:47; Chul. 11a]
7 And the sons of Aaron the
priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay wood in order upon the
fire.
Alternate east-west
and north-south laying out of wood stacked on the Mizbayach.
8 And Aaron's sons, the
priests, shall lay the pieces, and the head, and the suet, in order upon the
wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar;
Shall place fire [on the altar]: Even though the fire descended [miraculously] from heaven
[onto the altar, to consume the sacrifices], it was [nevertheless] a mitzvah for a mortal to bring [his fire to the altar. — [Toras Kohanim 1: 49; Zev. 18a]
9 but its inwards and its
legs shall he wash with water; and the priest shall make the whole smoke on the
altar, for a burnt-offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto
the LORD.
[The wood] which is on the altar: The logs of wood must not project beyond the [area of the
arranged] woodpile [constituting one square cubit. This is so that the kohanim would not be disturbed by protruding pieces of wood
when they go around the altar]. — [Toras Kohanim 1:54]
10 And if his offering be of
the flock, whether of the sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt-offering, he
shall offer it a male without blemish.
The Korban must be a
male. This voluntary offering is brought by the middle-class man.
11 And he shall
slaughter it on the northern side of the altar, before the Lord. And Aaron's
descendants, the kohanim, shall dash its blood upon the altar, around.
This is a better
translation and note the slaughtering is in the northern part of the Mizbayach.
12 And he shall cut it into
its pieces; and the priest shall lay them, with its head and its suet, in order
on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar. 13 But
the inwards and the legs shall he wash with water; and the priest shall offer
the whole, and make it smoke upon the altar; it is a burnt-offering, an
offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the LORD.
14 And if his offering to
the LORD be a burnt-offering of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of
turtle-doves, or of young pigeons.
This voluntary
offering is brought by the poorer man.
15 And the priest shall
bring it unto the altar, and pinch off its head, and make it smoke on the
altar; and the blood thereof shall be drained out on the side of the
altar.
The Cohain has a
larger thumbnail and it is sharpened for slaughtering the pigeon with the neck
held out.
The kohen shall nip off: The nipping [of the bird’s head] must not be done with
anything but with the body of kohen. He would cut with his [thumb]nail
adjacent to the back of the head, cutting right through its spine, until he
reached the simanim [literally, “the signs”; in
the context of slaughtering, this refers to the esophagus (gullet) and the
trachea (wind-pipe)], and cuts through them [see Rashi on Lev. 5:8]. And its [the bird’s] blood shall be pressed out: [The word וְנִמְצָה]
an expression similar to “the pressing out (מִיץ)
of wrath” (Prov. 30:33); and, “for the milking (הַמֵּץ)
has come to an end” (Isa. 16:4). He presses the slaughtering area [of the bird’s neck]
against the wall of the altar, and thereby, the blood is pressed out and runs
down [the wall].
16 And he shall take away
its crop with the feathers thereof, and cast it beside the altar on the east
part, in the place of the ashes.
Its crop: Heb. מֻרְאָתוֹ,
the place of the רְעִי, the digested food
or waste, i.e., the crop, [known in the Talmud as זֶפֶק The word מֻרְאָתוֹ stems from רְאִי,
which is equivalent to רְעִי,
since an “aleph” is sometimes interchangeable with an “ayin.”]- [Toras Kohanim 1:84] With its entrails: Heb. בְּנֹצָתָהּ,
with its entrails (Zev. 64b). The word נוֹצָה denotes something disgusting, as [in the verse], “for they
are foul (נָצוּ), even slipping” (Lam. 4:15). And this is what Onkelos means [when he translates this
word as]: בְּאוּכְלֵיהּ,
“with its digested food” [i.e., the excrement found in its entrails]. This is
the explanation given by Abba Yose ben Hanan, who states: The kohen removes the gizzard with it. But our Rabbis, of blessed
memory, [understanding נוֹצָה to mean “feathers,”] explain [the verse as follows]: With a
knife, he cuts an opening around the crop, like a window, and takes it
[together] with the feathers (נוֹצָה)
that are on the skin (Zev. 65a). In the case of the burnt
offering of an animal, which eats exclusively from the feeding trough of its
owner, it says, “And the innards and the legs, he shall wash with water. … and
cause it to [go up in] smoke [on the altar]” (verse 13). However, regarding birds,
which feed themselves on things stolen [from other people’s property], the
verse says here, “And he shall [remove its crop]…and cast” the entrails, which
ate from stolen property. — [Vayikra Rabbah 3:4]
17 And he shall rend it by
the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder; and the priest shall make
it smoke upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire; it is a
burnt-offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the LORD. 2:1 And when any one brings a
meal-offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall
pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon.
This voluntary
offering is brought by the poorest man.
2 And
he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests; and he shall take thereout his
handful of the fine flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, together with all
the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall make the memorial-part thereof
smoke upon the altar, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the
LORD.
The meal offering or Korban Mincha is made in the
following way. The flour is gathered by the Cohain’s hand. The thumb does not
participate and the pinky is also a non-participant. Both the thumb and pinky
clean off excess flour. The small remainder help by the three fingers is the
flour for the offering.
3 But
that which is left of the meal-offering shall be Aaron's and his sons'; it is a
thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
The small amount of remaining flour shall be for the
Cohain.
4 And
when thou bring a meal-offering baked in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes
of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers spread with oil.
Without water the flour cannot rise and remains a Matzah.
(All even if water fell upon it, if baked with
5 And
if thy offering be a meal-offering baked on a griddle, it shall be of fine
flour unleavened, mingled with oil. 6 Thou
shalt break it in pieces, and pour oil thereon; it is a meal-offering.
This appears to be
frying.
7 And
if thy offering be a meal-offering of the stewing-pan, it shall be made of fine
flour with oil. 8 And thou shalt
bring the meal-offering that is made of these things unto the LORD; and it
shall be presented unto the priest, and he shall bring it unto the altar.
Even with water
anything baked within 18 minutes of mixing is still unleavened as we do for
Pesach while here it appears to be only flour and oil.
9 And
the priest shall take off from the meal-offering the memorial-part thereof, and
shall make it smoke upon the altar--an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor
unto the LORD. 10 But that which is
left of the meal-offering shall be Aaron's and his sons'; it is a thing most
holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire. 11 No meal-offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD,
shall be made with leaven; for ye shall make no leaven, nor any honey, smoke as
an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
The only leaven in
the Mikdash was the Korban Todah (Thanksgiving) offering.
12 As
an offering of first-fruits ye may bring them unto the LORD; but they shall not
come up for a sweet savor on the altar. 13 And
every meal-offering of thine shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou
suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meal-offering;
with all thy offerings thou shalt offer salt.
The Bikurim are only brought between Shavuos and
Simchas Torah. And they shall be of the choicest of their species.
14 And if thou bring a meal-offering of first-fruits
unto the LORD, thou shalt bring for the meal-offering of thy first-fruits corn
in the ear parched with fire, even groats of the fresh ear. 15 And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense
thereon; it is a meal-offering. 16 And
the priest shall make the memorial-part of it smoke, even of the groats
thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; it is an
offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Note that with the Korbanos,
there is always incense.
3:1 And if his offering be a sacrifice of
peace-offerings: if he offers of the herd, whether male or female, he shall
offer it without blemish before the LORD.
The Peace Offering,
Korban Shlomim, can be either a male or female and requires Semicha, the laying
of the hands upon it.
2 And he shall lay his hand
upon the head of his offering, and RITUALLY SLAUGHTER
it at the door of the tent of meeting; and Aaron's sons the priests shall dash
the blood against the altar round about. 3 And he shall present of
the sacrifice of peace-offerings an offering made by fire unto the LORD: the
fat that covers the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
The forbidden fat is
called Chelev and it covers or is attached to the organs. Another type of
forbidden fat is called Aliyah and is in the tail of the sacrifice.
4 and the two kidneys, and
the fat that is on them, which is by the loins, and the lobe above the liver,
which he shall take away hard by the kidneys. 5 And Aaron's sons shall
make it smoke on the altar upon the burnt-offering, which is upon the wood that
is on the fire; it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the
LORD. 6 And if his offering for a sacrifice of peace-offerings unto
the LORD be of the flock, male or female, he shall offer it without
blemish.
All the Korbanos had
to be from the choicest of the herd or flock and had to be without blemish. If
we go back in history, Kayn gave an offering not of the choicest, fattest or
without blemish while Hevel offered up the best of his fruits.
7 If he bring a lamb for his
offering, then shall he present it before the LORD. 8 And he shall
lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and RITUALLY
SLAUGHTER it before the tent of meeting; and Aaron's sons shall dash the
blood thereof against the altar round about. 9 And he shall present
of the sacrifice of peace-offerings an offering made by fire unto the LORD: the
fat thereof, the fat tail entire, which he shall take away hard by the
rump-bone; and the fat that covers the inwards, and all the fat that is upon
the inwards,
The Chelev and Aliyah
as mentioned above.
10 and the two kidneys, and
the fat that is upon them, which is by the loins, and the lobe above the liver,
which he shall take away by the kidneys. 11 And the priest shall make
it smoke upon the altar; it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the
LORD. 12 And if his offering be a goat, then he shall present it
before the LORD. 13 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of it,
and kill it before the tent of meeting; and the sons of Aaron shall dash the
blood thereof against the altar round about. 14 And he shall present
thereof his offering, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD: the fat that
covers the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, 15 and
the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the loins, and the
lobe above the liver, which he shall take away by the kidneys. 16 And
the priest shall make them smoke upon the altar; it is the food of the offering
made by fire, for a sweet savor; all the fat is the LORD'S. 17 It
shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings,
that ye shall eat neither fat nor blood.
Ranchers and Shepherds
were a good deal of the population at that time. Priority Korban for the rich
was from the herd and since we always seem to mention Sheep before Goats, they
have the priority in that order. However, if a family was famous from raising
goats and making cheese from goats, their priority was what they raised. A
Korban should be giving willing and with love.
4:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses,
saying: 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying: If any one shall
sin through error, in any of the things which the LORD hath commanded not to be
done, and shall do any one of them: 3 if the anointed priest shall
sin so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer for his sin, which
he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a
sin-offering. 4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the
tent of meeting before the LORD; and he shall lay his hand upon the head of the
bullock, and RITUALLY SLAUGHTER the bullock before the LORD. 5 And
the anointed priest shall take of the blood of the bullock, and bring it to the
tent of meeting. 6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood,
and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil of
the sanctuary.
If one recalls the Korban
Chatas (guilty of sin by accident) and the Yom Kippur Service where the Cohain
sprinkles blood above and below and they would count : One, one and one, one
and two … one and seven.
7 And the priest shall put
of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD,
which is in the tent of meeting; and all the remaining blood of the bullock
shall he pour out at the base of the altar of burnt-offering, which is at the
door of the tent of meeting. 8 And all the fat of the bullock of the
sin-offering he shall take off from it; the fat that covers the inwards, and
all the fat that is upon the inwards, 9 and the two kidneys, and the
fat that is upon them, which is by the loins, and the lobe above the liver,
which he shall take away by the kidneys, 10 as it is taken off from
the ox of the sacrifice of peace-offerings; and the priest shall make them
smoke upon the altar of burnt-offering. 11 But the skin of the
bullock, and all its flesh, with its head, and with its legs, and its inwards,
and its dung, 12 even the whole bullock shall he carry forth without the
camp unto a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn it on wood
with fire; where the ashes are poured out shall it be burnt.
Again the two types
of forbidden fat, Chelev and Aliyah, are burnt but this time the frayed skin,
dung, head, inner parts and legs are burnt.
13 And if the whole congregation
of Israel shall err, the thing being hid from the eyes of the assembly, and do
any of the things which the LORD hath commanded not to be done, and are
guilty: 14 when the sin wherein they have sinned is known, then the
assembly shall offer a young bullock for a sin-offering, and bring it before
the tent of meeting. 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay
their hands upon the head of the bullock before the LORD; and the bullock shall
be RITUALLY SLAUGHTERED before the LORD.
Why the elders? Because
they should have had the tradition from their parents on educating the younger
generation and prevented the sin. They were responsible if their following
generation strayed so much. Therefore, the responsibility fell upon them. Even
with this WOKE generation and the elders tried and failed to get respect and
proper order, they lay their hands on the sacrifice. When we find a dead body
near a city the elders of the city are blamed as they did not prevent a murder,
animal attack or a person near the city having a medical emergency without anyone
near for help or a watchman.
16 And the anointed priest
shall bring of the blood of the bullock to the tent of
meeting. 17 And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and
sprinkle it seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil. 18 And
he shall put of the blood upon the horns of the altar which is before the LORD,
that is in the tent of meeting, and all the remaining blood shall he pour out
at the base of the altar of burnt-offering, which is at the door of the tent of
meeting.
Besides the seven
sprinklings, the blood was placed on the four corners of the Mizbayach.
19 And all the fat thereof
shall he take off from it, and make it smoke upon the altar. 20 Thus
shall he do with the bullock; as he did with the bullock of the sin-offering,
so shall he do with this; and the priest shall make atonement for them, and
they shall be forgiven. 21 And he shall carry forth
the bullock without the camp, and burn it as he burned the first bullock; it is
the sin-offering for the assembly. 22 When a ruler sins, and does
through error any one of all the things which the LORD his God hath commanded
not to be done, and is guilty:
The King, Government
of Israel (GOI) sin, but only by error or accident or misunderstanding. One cannot
bring a Korban on an intentional violation.
23 if his sin, wherein he hath
sinned, be known to him, he shall bring for his offering a goat, a male without
blemish. 24 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of
the goat, and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt-offering before
the LORD; it is a sin-offering. 25 And the priest
shall take of the blood of the sin-offering with his finger, and put it upon
the horns of the altar of burnt-offering, and the remaining blood thereof shall
he pour out at the base of the altar of burnt-offering. 26 And
all the fat thereof shall he make smoke upon the altar, as the fat of the
sacrifice of peace-offerings; and the priest shall make atonement for him as
concerning his sin, and he shall be forgiven.
All the above are
either, the Cohain Gadol, leader or government but not a regular citizen.
27 And if any one of the
common people sin through error, in doing any of the things which the LORD hath
commanded not to be done, and be guilty: 28 if his
sin, which he hath sinned, be known to him, then he shall bring for his
offering a goat, a female without blemish, for his sin which he hath
sinned.
The ordinary person
brings a female.
29 And he shall lay his hand
upon the head of the sin-offering, and kill the sin-offering in the place of
burnt-offering.
Semicha and Kavanah
is required for all Korbanos. Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Ben Porat Shlita says since Prayer
today is instead of Korbanos, we should be careful to have intent.
30 And the priest shall take
of the blood thereof with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of
burnt-offering, and all the remaining blood thereof shall he pour out at the
base of the altar. 31 And all the fat thereof shall he
take away, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace-offerings;
and the priest shall make it smoke upon the altar for a sweet savor unto the
LORD; and the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be
forgiven.
After the Korban, he
shall be forgiven.
32 And if he brings a lamb
as his offering for a sin-offering, he shall bring it a female without
blemish. 33 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of
the sin-offering, and RITUALLY SLAUGHTER it
for a sin-offering in the place where they kill the burnt-offering. 34 And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin-offering
with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering, and
all the remaining blood thereof shall he pour out at the base of the altar. 35 And all the fat thereof shall he take away, as the fat of
the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of peace-offerings; and the priest
shall make them smoke on the altar, upon the offerings of the LORD made by
fire; and the priest shall make atonement for him as touching his sin that he
hath sinned, and he shall be forgiven. 5:1 And if any one sin, in
that he hears the voice of adjuration, he being a witness, whether he has seen
or known, if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity;
It is like somebody
saying to him: Hey mister today is Shabbos or Hey mister writing two letters on
Shabbos is forbidden then he must cease and desist or if he did it and somebody
comes from a distance and tell him. Hey there, I just saw you picking fruit did
you know today is Shabbos or harvesting things are forbidden this is why one
brings a Korban after adjuration.
2 or if any one touch any
unclean thing, whether it be the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of
unclean cattle, or the carcass of unclean swarming things, and be guilty, it
being hidden from him that he is unclean; 3 or if he touch the uncleanness
of man, whatsoever his uncleanness be wherewith he is unclean, and it be hid
from him; and, when he knows of it, be guilty; 4 or if any one swear
clearly with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man
shall utter clearly with an oath, and it be hid from him; and, when he knows of
it, be guilty in one of these things; 5 and it shall be, when he
shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that wherein he
has sinned;
One has to be in a
state of ritual purity for a Korban or to enter the Mikdash.
6 and he shall bring his
forfeit unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the
flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin-offering; and the priest shall make
atonement for him as concerning his sin. 7 And if his means suffice
not for a lamb, then he shall bring his forfeit for that wherein he hath
sinned, two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD: one for a
sin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering.
This person is the
poorest of the poor.
8 And he shall bring them
unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin-offering first, and
pinch off its head close by its neck, but shall not divide it
asunder. 9 And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin-offering
upon the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be drained out at
the base of the altar; it is a sin-offering. 10 And he shall prepare
the second for a burnt-offering, according to the ordinance; and the priest
shall make atonement for him as concerning his sin which he hath sinned, and he
shall be forgiven.
We now return to the
poorer man and as above brings according to his ability to pay for the Korban.
11 But if his means suffice
not for two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he shall bring his offering
for that wherein he hath sinned, the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a
sin-offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any
frankincense thereon; for it is a sin-offering.
He does not put any
oil upon the flour.
12 And he shall bring it to
the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it as the memorial-part
thereof, and make it smoke on the altar, upon the offerings of the LORD made by
fire; it is a sin-offering. 13 And the priest shall make atonement
for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in any of these things, and he
shall be forgiven; and the remnant shall be the priest's, as the
meal-offering. 14 And the LORD spoke unto Moses,
saying: 15 If any one commit a trespass, and sin through error, in
the holy things of the LORD, then he shall bring his forfeit unto the LORD, a
ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy valuation in silver by
shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt-offering.
A person accidently

Ophir and Shuval (his wife) on the morning of Mar. 18th. I almost
missed this, as I was watching a recording of Mark Levine about the agenda
against Israel by the NY Times, State Dept., and Senate Leader for Biden’s
agenda. 3 Jews who long ago became basically born Jews but the religion, Am

Sargent Major Ophir
Chagbi was a policeman in Yerushalayim doing a routine shift when a terror
attack occurred. Ophir does not recall anything of the incident. Shuval
originally understand that Ophir was hit in the leg. She does not know that he
took two more bullets to the chest and head and was in critical condition.
Since he was hit by the police station 5 days after the war started, it was
fully staffed including an equivalent to Lt. Col. Police Dr. Michael Herman and
paramedics.
At first, Ophir has a
pulse and is breathing. But as he is given first aid, internal bleeding is
filling his head and the stomach-chest area with blood. He arrives at the
Trauma Center in the state of Dead on Arrival. The hospital opens up his chest
to drain the blood and message his heart.
Shuval has faith in
the HOLY ONE BLESSED BE HE. She arrives at the hospital and sees Ophir is in a
state of induced coma hooked up to machines and breathing tubes. The Rabbis and
medical staff helped Shuval get through the initial days.
There is a saying in
Modern Israel: Aviv (Spring) is here and Pesach is coming (Pesach Ba). As usual
I will be reviewing the laws and customs of Pesach. I suggest going into the

manners and his appetite as well, you can tell you want but you can not tell
him much!
I applied to FEMA to
declare his room a Chometz Disaster Area. So happy Purim and he is given the
job of cleaning up his own mess. Then you wonder why we say Erev Pesach “All
Chometz that I have not found that is in my possession shall be rendered void
and null as the dust of the earth.” Until then most of the women will check
their closets including the upper shelves that require a ladder to reach for
Chometz, where nobody eats. They will tell us Rabbis that if they followed our
advice of skipping certain areas the house, the house would not be Kosher. –

The family has a
two-story private home. Safe-rooms on both floors. Everybody was home except
for the older son and soldier who had left his army rifle at home. The sirens
go off non-stop at 6:30 and everybody heads to the shelter. The soldier son
comes home to pick up his weapon as rumors of terrorist infiltration spread.
There is camera video
of the following of the husband on the street and the other parts of the
incident. I believe it is in Ofakim but could be in Sderot as both were
attacked.
The son walked with
the father to the Synagogue. The Rabbi asked the son to remain with them
because he had an automatic rifle for security. The father went towards his
home and saw what looked like a soldier and said Chag Samayach. The individual
started cursing in Arabic and shooting towards the father. The father got to
the door of his house yelled ‘terrorists’ and his wife let him in and locked
it. She saw blood on his Tallis.
She called up a friend
who was a nurse and got advice. In the meantime, she called Magen Dovid and
they could not come. She called up the emergency center from the city. At this
point the husband was coughing up blood. Somehow, they sent soldiers killed 3
of 5 terrorists and captured two and the husband was saved.
While the husband was
bleeding, the terrorists began shooting into the Synagogue and the son and a
man with a gun took cover behind steel doors to a shelter and they lobbed in a
grenade that exploded in the entrance hall. Everybody scattered and hid where
they could on the sides. A second grenade went right into the Synagogue BUT
FAILED TO DETENATE! You can: Believe or don’t believe in miracles. I tell you
that I believe.

Regarding the Iranian Shipments to
Hezballah reported last week. Monique sent me this from the Jewish Press: The Telegraph cited a senior
Israeli intelligence source who explained that “Using Europe helps to hide the
nature and the source of the shipments, switching paperwork and containers… to
clean the shipments.” The source said Iran is capitalizing on Europe’s
extensive port infrastructure to conceal its activities. Manipulations are more
feasible in large ports where there’s a need for swift movement, compared to smaller
ports with tighter scrutiny. It’s akin to a game of cat and mouse between us
and the Iranians, with their attempts to smuggle countered by our efforts to
thwart them. This dynamic has persisted for at least three years, the Israeli
source said. The Israeli intelligence sources told the Telegraph that the
shipments are coordinated by Iran’s Quds Force Unit 190, and received by
Hezbollah’s Unit 4400. Good to know. According to another Israeli source, an
Iranian spy ship named Behshad which is anchored permanently in the Red Sea,
provides protection and concealment for arms shipments that reach the Egyptian
coast and from there go to Libyan ports from which they set sail to Latakia. A
source told JewishPress.com that when they were in an EU county buying equipment
for IDF soldiers a few months ago, the suppliers were simultaneously taking
